Good food with a rock climb to burn it off.

We had a great time traveling to and from Guatape! It was my second trip there (2011) and my wife's first. Our tour guide Michael was excellent! He was very informative and helped to make our trip a wonderful one! Also, our driver Pedro was fantastic! Highly recommended!

Our guides Noemi, Danny and Pedro (our driver) were great! I loved Noemi's energy. She did a really good job of explaining a little bit of the history of every one of our stops. Amazing trip to Guatape

The tour guide Michael was very knowledgeable on the history of all of the small towns we stopped at and Colombia in general. Him and the bus driver were very kind and welcoming! PS the food samples were delicious! Would definitely recommend this tour!!

Guatape excursion

Our tour guide Juanito was very friendly, knowledgeable and we learned a lot of history of Guatapé. It was a great experience to me and my family. The strawberries with cream were delicious including the bandeja paisa for lunch. The Guatape town was very colorful with history. The cruise on the dawn was awesome. The driver was very friendly. We enjoy our tour very much. Highly recommended.

good value, but large group

A great value for the price, coming in far below the cost of a private tour or taxi ride. Pacing and organization are decent. The bus is clean and well-maintained. There's "enough" food, with the lunch being pretty good. But keep in mind this is a large-ish group tour. The completely full bus had 39 people + guide + driver. So that means a lot of time spent getting on and off the bus. Also try to speak some Spanish, since the narration in Spanish is more detailed than in English, although the guide was sufficiently bilingual. There's also a lot of time spent on the bus, which is an older design (no footrest, raised floor under seats, making it uncomfortable for tall people). Windows do not open. There's no accessibility ramp or extensible step, so it's a long step up/down into the bus if there's no curb. If you're mobility impaired, this will be a pain point. Final note: the cruise part of the trip still works, but the lake is severely depleted after drought, so is a lot less scenic than it would be normally. Overall: If you're not too tall and reasonably fit & mobile, this is an inexpensive way to see the Colombian countryside, get to some majorly scenic spots at low cost, and try some food. As long as you don't mind a lot of people.

This tour was amazing! The transportation bus was big and comfortable. The hosts were amazing. The food tasting was a fun experience. We stopped by many cities and learned about their history. We even cruised the old town of El Penol. We visited the Fenix statue, and the best part was La Piedra (the rock). The pictures and memories you are going to capture here are so worth it!!! This is a must do!!!!

Good value

Snacks: bite of cheesy bread and hot chocolate, tree tomato with sugar, lunch (typical picnic lunch) with juice box, weird cookie for dessert, and 7 layer cheese with guava. They bring you to the rock, then boat ride for lunch and then to the city to walk around. It was good value. But we could have skipped boat ride. We would have rather had more time in town and eat lunch in town on our own. The guide, Adrianna, was lovely. Not much commentary or history as I would prefer however.

Awesome Day Trip!

Mateo was an excellent guide! He was informative, friendly, and kept us all together and on time. I really enjoyed this day tripe to Guatapé and all the food experiences along the way were great! I loved how everything was well organized in advance for us, and we really didn’t have to wait for any of the experiences or food. Even when one of the vendors was a last minute no show (tomate de arbol) , Mateo bought us all mangostinos to try instead. There was a lot packed into this one day, but we were still back by 6PM! The communication beforehand was not very responsive, and majority of the communication, including details regarding pickup (the time, who the driver was, what car they were coming in, and confirming the pickup location) was not communicated until the morning of via Whatsapp. This is my only criticism - it would be super helpful to be attentive to any message, not just on the morning of, and to communicate this information at least a day before. Otherwise, I highly recommend this experience for anyone looking for a day tour to Guatapé!

Awesome cultural and foodie tour

Someone I met on another tour in another country recommended I visit Guatapé. Found this trip and booked it. Very affordable, I feel I got a lot for my money and tasted lots of wonderful things (more than I thought). Nohemi, our guide, was so wonderful and knowledgeable. She was awesome. Pedro our driver was great too. Fun trip to do on your own, couple or with a group. You’ll also make new friends. It’s in all day trip, but from the first stop out of Medellín it’s on and you see so much. Bring sunscreen and a hat!

Ok, so first of all this is great value for money and you get to see the beautiful countryside of Colombia and Guatapé which is truly unique. Miguel was a very energized guide and truly bilingual. He communicated very well and was always available to answer questions. Guatape is definitely worth a visit and worth climbing. The town, once you get off the main streets, is also charming. You’ll also, hopefully, get to meet some very lovely and interesting people from across the world, as we did. A couple of things to watch out for. Firstly, with the exception of the really unique Colombian tomato experience, the local food stops are, at best, average. Secondly, time keeping, although admittedly difficult with a large group, was problematic. The “we will be back between 6pm to 6.30pm” turned into a late arrival at 7.15pm despite reasonable traffic. Be aware if you are booking restaurants in Medellín that evening.
