Masai Mara Safari

Where do I start, what a great journey. The trip from Nairobi to our camp was brutal, this was due to unseasonably heavy rain over the last few weeks. The tracks were very bumpy and difficult to drive on, fortunately our guide and driver George was highly skilled, he was a gentleman too and highly knowledgeable. He got us to our camp after our journey through the Rift Valley at Enkorok. I had selected this camp because of the excellent reviews on Trip Advisor, I was no disappointed as the big house was comfortable and well stocked with drinks, the pack up lunches were very good, our tent was like a hotel room in very sense with a comfy bed, chairs etc, it was home from home. The Safari was not easy due to the track surfaces being either damaged by the rain or very wet, George always found a way to get us where we needed to be. We were very lucky, we got to see Lions, I was no more than 6 feet away ! We saw a Leopard which is very rare , we went on to Buffalo, a herd of elephants, crocs, hippos, giraffes, antelope, warthogs, baboons. It all felt so natural. We returned back to Nairobi feeling very grateful but very tired on the 3rd day, the land journey by Minivan is hard but it is truly the only way to see the real Kenya. I didn’t mention earlier the Masai village visit, I found it fascinating but make sure you ask questions. I’m indebted to George our guide and driver for helping us make memories and our thanks to all at Benecia and Enkorok. I would strongly recommend this Safari

Amazing wildlife and scenery (but the tour company can't take credit for that!)

The Masai Mara must be the most incredible place in the world, and I imagine whichever tour company you use it will be amazing - there's wildlife everywhere and the views are mind-boggling. I found the tour company average though - i found it frustrating not being updated on what was going on, where we were going, or why we were waiting/stopping. We also got very little info about the animals from the guide. At one point we were dropped off by a river and it turned out we were going on a guided tour - but in the midday heat and not being warned about water/wearing the right footwear, or that we needed a tip for the guide at the end, we were really unprepared! It wouldn't have taken much to let us know! The accommodation was run down and very basic, I wasn't expecting glamour in the middle of the Masai Mara, but it seemed very little for the amount we paid!

We had a phenomenal time! We saw all Big Five in 2days +some leopards. Our driver Titus was an expert in knowing where to find these animals, and took us very close so we got great pics. John the cook catered to our specific dietary needs. Food was delicious every day. Love it and would recommend it

The safari was very good, we saw all the big five and many more. The agency was Bencia and we stayed in Rhino Camp. The vehicle was quite old and we had bad luck because it broke down for 3 hours during the all-day game drive in the park so we had few hours than planned.

Bencia Tours did a wonderful job with the logistics of this tour, and it is an excellent value for the money. We were picked up on time from our hotel on time, and Benson, one of the managers at Bencia Tours, promptly went through the itinerary. The drive from Nairobi to our campsite outside Maasai Mara is about 5.5 hours, and we stopped along the way to view the Great Rift Valley, eat, and purchase souvenirs. Our driver, Benna, wasn't much of a talker, which can be seen by some as a demerit, but his ability to work a vehicle through tough terrain to ensure the best photographs is both entertaining and appreciated. Within 4 hours on our day-2 game drive, we'd seen the big 5, and leopards and rhinos are rare sights. Although Benson didn't travel on the safari with us, he did a marvelous job ensuring that we were comfortable and prepared for the safari. Benson also met us at our hotel afterward and wanted to learn of our Maasai Mara experience. We were quite surprised by that level of concern, and definately recommend this tour for budget travelers.
