When we were met By Roberta at Herculaneum, she was very knowledgeable, friendly and fed us a load of information that was incredibly helpful to understand what community was all about. I really enjoyed the tour and would highly recommend using this guide! An A+ tour and experience!

Definitely a great tour and the only way to learn about ancient site. Our tour guide Daniela was fantastic and so knowledgeable!!!! I have done these tours before and without the guide we were just looking at ruins. But with guide we did so much more. The private tour allowed us to learn so much about ancient life as well as the structures, purposes and what they looked like. Worth the extra cost. Herculaneum is smaller but better preserved than Pompeii.

Our guide Luciano is wonderful. He has immense knowledge about the ancient city and the people that once lived there. We all thoroughly enjoyed his stories and information that brought the former Roman culture back to life. We enjoyed Luciano so much that we brought a new group of family members back and did the tour with him again and the other members of the family. The second time around, we even learned new stuff. Great tour and not to be missed.

Beware - don't pay for the very expensive tour

We very much enjoyed Rossella and our tour with her, but felt misled by Viator - our guide was a high school teacher, and not a practicing Archaeologist. (The title of the paid for experience was "Herculaneum Private Tour with an Archaeologist.") We feel the tour should have cost less given this. Our guide was kind and polite and we enjoyed our two hours with her, but I will not book again through Viator without some kind of assurance that the tour guide has the credentials advertised.

We had an amazing, enjoyable and unforgettable tour with Antonella. She is such a wonderful, friendly, passionate and knowledgeable tour guide !! It was a dream come true to have been assigned to her. You know from the very first moment of her tour that she is an absolute subject-matter expert in her field. There was not one single question that she couldn’t answer. I wished every tour guide is like her !! We enjoyed every minute of our tour and would highly recommend her !!

Well worth the expense! Alessandra was a wealth of knowledge on the history and details of Herculaneum. We left in awe! We would not have understood 1/4 of what we saw on this visit. Spend the extra money if you’re making the trip!

We had a private tour with Sergio who was excellent. Very informed and passionate. This is a great place - the excavated buildings are more intact than Pompeii and there were far fewer people though this was a great, quieter time of year for both places. We did an afternoon tour as we did Pompeii in the morning. All doable but I would have liked to have spent a bit longer here. Well worth getting a guide though.
