What To Expect
Board your tour vehicle upon hotel pickup in Cancun or the Riviera Maya and relax during the drive to the Río Secreto Nature Reserve, located just 5 minutes away from Playa del Carmen. Be welcomed by the reception staff and watch an introductory video before a 15-minute transfer takes you into the reserve.
On arrival, get suited with equipment and receive a safety briefing. Then it's off to your adventure. Ride a bicycle, rappel into a cave, and walk on trails that transport you to the Maya underworld known as xibalbá. Use your Río Secreto Plus admission ticket for access to the Dry Route, which takes you into the Room of Peace (Salón de la Paz) for an incredible light and sound show on the stalactites and stalagmites.
Feast on a regional buffet lunch with nonalcoholic drinks. You'll have time to rest before return transport to your hotel.

We actually have not been on the tour yet. We got very sick and called just hours before tour and explained our situation. The tour company was very considerate and said we have a voucher good for one year for the tour.
I am looking forward to our next trip to Cancun.

Rio Secreto Plus provided us with everything we needed. We were assigned to Victor. He was a great guide and very knowledgeable with the underground river. This was an amazing experience and one not to be missed when travelling to Riveria Maya

we took the tour in Feb 2024, three guy friends. guide was excellent (Darely). the organization of the tour was excellent; while it was a lot of people at the checkin, they quickly broke us into our groups and we basically didnt see any other groups the entire afternoon except when getting gear. it was only us in the caves, fantastic. we never felt rushed. food was ok at the end, but we didnt go for the food. the only thing we would change is the transportation, we got picked up at Secrets Maroma Beach and then had to stop at 4 other hotels for pickups. next time we'll do private transportation, otherwise tour was excellent. we'll definitely do it again and recommend it. exceeded my expectations and i do a lot of outside activities.

The caves were amazing and David was a great guide. We really learned a lot especially loved the Mayan blessing before we descended. My girls had no problem but my husband and I were a little slower and David did a great job making sure we stayed up with the group and felt comfortable and confident. I would probably not do the Plus part (with the bike ride and repelling) if I chose to go again. My girls loved it but it was too much for my husband and I.

We had a horrible experience starting with incorrect booking dates on Viator. The tour operator was able to communicate with us to correct our dates but then tried to contact me directly on WhatsApp to have me pay him directly by email instead of through this platform. On the day of the tour, we were asked to take a taxi to the tour location instead of waiting for the tour shuttle to pick us up b/c the tour shuttle could not make it due to an accident. This was communicated over WhatsApp and the tour operator said they would pay for our Taxi which was $1500 pesos, or about $ 90 USD, which felt like a lot to just trust that they would pay us back in a foreign country. They did pay us back. The advertised experience of being in a cavern with colorful lights and music is not accurate. This experience included rappelling with dangerous practices - the tour guide was providing a fireman's belay but let go for a moment and let the rappelled drop for a surprise panic photo opportunity. Mountain biking in a circle on rusty, incorrectly sized, old bikes, and being forced to wear shared wetsuits. I specifically went through Viator to get the music and lights experience b/c I did not want to bike or rappel. The tour operator does not allow photos and has a photographer follow you and take photos that they try to sell you at the end of the tour. The provided food and drink is at the end of a hot and long day - I was glad we brought our own snacks and drinks.

We had a wonderful, informative and safe excursion at Rio Secreto.
Our guide, Alfredo, was the best.
Our visit included a bike ride, swimming in caves, rappelling and lots of walking.
Beautiful surroundings and learning about ancient cultures is always so fascinating!

I was very sick and had to leave Mexico early. They refused to refund me. They are not understanding of extenuating circumstance. Do not book this!

Felipe was an amazing tour guide. He was funny, helpful, and respectful of the guests. He made us all feel welcome and safe. He told stories about the Mayan people and gave us a lot of insight into the history of the site. The company was on time, organized and well run. Thank you for a wonderful day.

Had an awesome day at Rio Secreto!
My group was picked up on time by an air conditioned shuttle at our resort in Playa Paraiso and had only 2 other pickups before arriving at Rio Secret an hour later. After signing in, we enjoyed our "Plus" tour which included a quick tortilla snack, a dry walking cave tour, biking (about 5-8 mins but you can opt for a car ride instead), rappelling, biking back, a water tour of the stalactites and stalagmites and a tasty buffet (in that order). Between each activity you also return to the lockers/restrooms, for anyone needing water or a bathroom break. At the end, they group you by destinations (to shorten your commute) and transport you back via the shuttles (30 mins. return for us). I advise bringing extra money for gratuities, souvenirs (including the delicious anise alcohol that you get a taster of) and photos. I know other reviews have commented on the high price of the pictures, but my group of 3 split the $99 fee for the 75 downloadable photos (individual and group shots), so for us it wasn't too bad. We'll definitely be back in the future :)
