Pickup details

Once you have made your reservation you will receive your ticket, this will be your boarding pass. When you arrive at the Cancun airport you go through customs and immigration, then go to the exit of travel agencies and tour operators there will be our staff waiting with a sign with the logo of viator and yamevi travel, at terminal 2 our staff will be in front of the welcome bar, at terminal 3 our staff will be between the minimarket and the bar margarita ville, at terminal 4 our staff will be at the exit of travel agencies and tour operators in front of the welcome bar by the column c present your reservation and our staff will assign you a vehicle to take you to your hotel. pick up from the hotel to the airport is only included when you purchased round trip. you can't book a departure from the hotel to the airport by itself.

We were greeted by a Viator representative holding our names on a sign. I felt that they were professional from this point on. We were asked to wait for the van, and it was about 30-45 minutes. We had two beers (US $9 each!) The van was air conditioned, and it wasn’t crowded. We spoke to two taxi drivers who quoted us $100 to Playa del Carmen, and we felt good about the $35 total we spent- same amount as 4 beers. The driver was very good and fast. Would use the services again; I highly recommend.

Transportation Blunder

This was one of the worst transportation services I have ever Booked. The moment my plane landed I received messages asking if my flight arrived. I had already provided my flight information when I booked the transportation. Each message said that I would have to wait 45-60 minutes from the time I met the driver. But if I didn’t want to wait I could pay an additional $25 for a private driver. I received at lest five messages while navigating the immigration line a luggage pickup. When we finally reached the driver she asked if we wanted a private driver. I told her no and she looked at her watch and said “ Your hour starts now”.When asked her if we were waiting for other scheduled travelers or random passengers she said she would ask her boss 15 minutes later a diver was there. On the scheduled transportation back we were told we would be picked up at 11:00 AM despite our flight was scheduled to depart at 5;00 PM. The day we were scheduled to leave I contacted the transportation agency to cancel the pick up. I was there told that the driver was going to come anyway and if we weren’t there I would be marked as NO SHOW, The company was very unreliable and only interested in seeing how much more they can charge customers.

Unexpected turn

Before you book, keep in mind that you will have to wait outside the airport under the sun waiting for other passengers. So plan accordingly with that, that is not the reason for the low rating. On our way to Cancun, not sure if the drive was not prepared or did not pay attention but he missed a passengers exit and then swerved to turn around, causing the van to get rear ended. We then had to wait on the side of the road for 45 minutes for another transpiration van. A service that should’ve lasted about an hour took about 2 1/2. Best part, we were not offered a partial refund or anything. Crazy.

Be prepared to wait when going from airport to your Hotel; which since not private I understand to an extent. It was just longer than we expected. After being dropped off I asked driver if it would be an issue getting from our hotel to airport (the round trip we paid for), and he said sure even though earlier in AM. Day before our flight (bc I initiated conversation) they said that I would need to change to private transportation for an additional $55! No thanks!!! Anyway, I had to scramble for a ride the next day.

We arrived at 1:02 pm and had our bags and was outside waiting by 1:30pm and was told the shuttle would be here shortly several times. We had a gentleman text one of the agents and they said 30 minutes. The shuttle finally showed up at 4:00 pm. We waited for 2 1/2 hours and will let as many people as we can never to use the company again. It was unjustified to wait that long.

The booking form was a little confusing with what was the pick up or drop off location but was confirmed quickly by the operator and they even sent me a WhatsApp message with the details of exactly where and when to meet the operator. This was especially handy as there were literally hundreds of people offering taxis or transfers when exiting the airport. Alex was who contacted and met us and was very friendly and helpful. We shared the van with one other couple. I didn’t book the round trip option because of uncertainty with the booking form but should have, as it wasn’t possible to book a single trip from the hotel back to the airport.

Communication before the trip was good and although i had to wait a little after the flight arrived (because immigration is so efficient i was at the meet point maybe an hour early) i had a chat in Spanish with the lovely lady representative there, so no worries. It takes a bit of effort to distinguish the different companies at the airport gathering area, so be prepared to walk around until you find the right person. Everyone was helpful when they knew you had a reservation. The van ride was airconditioned and efficient with a very good driver. He had no problems finding my little apartment in central Playa del Carmen on a small street.
