What To Expect

Start with pickup at your hotel in Playa del Carmen or the Riviera Maya; depending on your location, departure time will be between 7am and 9am. Board an air-conditioned coach for the 40 mile (65 kilometer) trip to the Tulum Archeological Site, a historic port with stone fortifications that look out across the Caribbean Sea.

Upon arrival at Tulum, explore the site on a two-hour guided tour. You’ll see the Temple of the Wind and the Temple of the Descending God, a pair of dramatic structures linked to ancient Maya beliefs—don’t miss the mysterious, upside-down figure that guards the doorway of the Temple of the Descending God.

Take in the religious paintings at the Temple of the Frescoes, then continue to Halach Uinic and the Great Palace, a ruined structure that might once have housed Tulum’s nobles. Following the guided tour, you’ll have one hour on your own, with the option to stay at the site to take photographs, or to swim at the white sand beach that stretches out from the ruins.

At the end of your time at Tulum, meet back up at the bus for the return trip to Playa del Carmen, where this tour concludes at roughly 2:45pm.

This trip to Tulum was exactly as described - a ride to the ruins with a guide, who provided some information on the way, a tour with commentary by the guide when we arrived, and some free time to explore more and get a snack and/or do some shopping before heading back.

Easy booking process for Tulum Mayan ruins tour and was able to schedule a pickup from our hotel.. The day of the tour we were greeted in the hotel lobby, and boarded the van quickly. Note - we stayed at Valentín Imperial (further than most hotels) and had to make a few hotel stops. Travel time took a little over an hour. Overall, had a wonderful experience from start to finish! Highly recommend the Tulum tour (1/2 day).

Though I was glad to have an established transport and tour, I felt your ad should’ve contained some additional information about the conditions of the tour. That is to say, that there was a tremendous amount of walking on rough terrain. This would not have been at all suitable for those with walking or stamina Disabilities

"The General" was a great guide through the city and at the ruins. The ranch for horse riding was beautiful and we were able to take the horses along the river. The day ended with a late lunch of local dish which was delicious. We'll definitely use this company again the next time we are in Belize!

Amazing ruins and knowledge

Great if you have limited time. The tour guide was knowledgeable about the area and gave a great walking tour- would have loved more information on the mayans but the site was gorgeous. It was a small group of 10. There was a 1 km walk to the site which he gave is notice of. It’s quite hot while walking. Expect lots of sand and cobble stones. The ruins are worth it! The beach at the ruins are closed due to turtle nesting in the area. The ticket booths are also getting a facelift so expect construction work over the next few months.

Great concept, poor execution. Positives: Ruins are truly fascinating, great backdrop of the ocean for photos, plenty of souvenir shopping, several places to grab tacos, margaritas. Liked the half day option. Negatives: Tour guide, Pepe, was nice but not effective at explaining the Ruins and he wasted a lot of the limited time we had for the excursion. After we walked the long road to finally make it into the Ruins, he took too long explaining the Ruins even stopping us to talk and draw in the sand. The other tours passing us by seemed much more up to speed. Finally, Pepe left us with about an hour to see the main ruin, take pictures, take the 25 to 30 minute walk back to the front entrance and enjoy the shopping, snacks and drinks, which was obviously no time to do really any of those things. Then he chastised us for getting to the van ten minutes after the meeting time. So we couldn't shop, get a taco or a margarita at Tulum. Basically paid over a $100 USD for a cab ride to and from the Ruins.

Long unnecessary drive

While Ariel our tour guide was great, it took 2.5 hours to arrive at Tulum because we made 7 stops at other hotels to pick up guests. Tulum is only an hour away...and of course going back, stops again. More time spent in the van than at Tulum.

I did not get a refund even though I called more than 24 hours in advance to cancel

This tour was great they guide was with us the whole time made sure we knew what we were doing and was very informative and smart so made it a wonderful experience . It does take some walking for sure my wife has a bad knee and the guide was concern we were falling back of the group he would stay so we knew where we were to go at one time my wife sat on a bench and said go on without her so i kept a I form my point and not once but twice he would ask me if she was ok and stuff I really admired he was worried about her and that means a lot my wife was able to pick up later and he even told us there is a vehicle we can take for like $2 bucks so we not have to walk the long trek back and I appreciated that he told us that saved a lot of wear and tear (we are a older couple btw) So overall I enjoyed this this guy really knows his stuff

We had a great time exploring Tulum with Pepe! Pepe clearly had a love for the history of Tulum, and wanted us to make connections with it! He also had great recommendations for picture spots! The group tour time was long enough to give you a feel for the layout of Tulum, while the independent time was enough to walk around the ruins, up to the cliff for pictures, and still gave time to explore the gift shop or stalls near the exit!
