What To Expect
Meet your guide and tour group in central downtown Reykjavik.
Make your first stop at the Hallgrímskirkja Church itself, where you climb to the top of the bell tower. Get out your camera to capture incredible views over the red rooftops of the city and Faxaflói Bay beyond. Get an introduction to the city while you catch your breath and enjoy the scenery.
Continue to Einar Jónsson's statue garden, where your guide delves into some of the myths and legends of the Norse gods. Walk through the lanes of Thingholt (Þingholt) toward Reykjavik City Pond. Feed ducks, geese, and swans that reside there, a small pocket of nature in the middle of the city.
Get a primer on Iceland's volcanology and geology as you contemplate the giant topographical map of the country outside the city hall. Walk past Reykjavik's cathedral, the parliament, and the site of the city's very first houses.
Stroll by the Old Harbour toward the Harpa Concert Hall. Stop at the Sólfar (Sun Voyagers) sculpture to admire views over the bay and Mt. Esja.

We were given the option to do this on our own with the guide or join a free tour and they would buy us lunch. But there wasn't time for lunch ch which was a shame. So we paid for a tour we didn't actually get but that was our choice and the free tour was very good. I'd recommend doing the free one!

This was our first activity in Reykjavík and it was a great way to start our trip. Our tour guide, Ásta, was clearly very knowledgeable about the city and took us on some additional stops, including a very much needed stop at a café for a hot chocolate! The only disappointment is that we were told that we weren't allowed to go into the Bell Tower at Hallgrimskirkja, whereas the tour description states that this is included.

I arrived in Reykjavik at 6 am after a 12 hour flight and joined the 10 am tour. I wanted to do something interesting that would keep me active and help minimize the jet lag. This tour did exactly that. I learned about Icelandic culture, got great food recommendations, and see how Reykjavik is laid out. I strongly recommend taking this tour early in your stay, soon after you arrive.

Our tour guide was Asta. She was fantastic— smart, knowledgeable, and funny! We learned so much about the history of Reykjavík and Iceland, including cool and fun facts about everything from the landmarks, the cats, good places to eat and shop, earthquakes and volcanoes, to family owned businesses, and more. She was an excellent guide and spent 2 1/2 hours with us. Loved this tour. Great thing to do soon after you arrive.

The communication with Viator was pretty bad on this one to the point that until a few hours before the tour we weren't sure if the tour was on. The tour operator wanted to switch the tour from 2 PM to 10 AM which did not suit our schedule. Finally we did have the tour at 2 PM but with a substitute guide who was not very good at all.

The guide was very informative! He was from the DR. He was very engaged, knowledgeable and experienced. One issue was we are a bit slower in walking. He just would not wait for us and start talking before we met at the next sight!
He crossed a street and didn't make sure the group was together before he began his lecture! Overall the experience was very good!
