First, what an amazing place Iceland is. And Reykjavik, which seems to get no love from most commenters, was surprisingly quaint and fun (at least in the harbor area where we stayed).
More to the point, my two adult daughters and I went on this tour with pretty high expectations, and still managed to be absolutely blown away by the scenery and our tour guide, Devin.
As for the scenery, the best way to explain it is that we found ourselves on multiple occasions looking at vistas that seemed almost digitally-created or enhanced. Like living a Game of Thrones episode, uniformly harsh but beautiful. Waterfalls, glaciers, gorgeous beaches with huge waves, stunning rock formations.
And tour guide Devin masterfully orchestrated this long day with pacing that was perfect (meaning length of stops, breaks, etc). He's an Arizonan that recently emigrated to Iceland, and has clearly fallen in love with the place. We appreciated his objective, outsider's view on all things Iceland, and his grasp of the history, the terrain, the general science, the culture, was incredibly comprehensive. Just a good, friendly, comfortable guy to spend a day with.
We went on other tours while there, with guides that were effectively bus-drivers. We will do Iceland again, and we will do everything in our power to get Devin and EastWest Tours (I think I have that right), when we do so. Thanks Devin.
