What To Expect

Depart your central Reykjavik hotel or Reykjavik cruise port by air-conditioned coach and venture into Iceland’s starkly beautiful interior of rugged peaks, pastures and volcanic plains.

Take in panoramic views of the plant that harnesses the area’s natural propensity for generating power, and hear how it produces renewable energy for more than half of Reykjavik's population.

Continue from here along the famous Golden Circle, the sightseeing route that showcases three of Iceland’s most spectacular natural wonders.

Stop by at Thingvellir National Park, a region of untouched beauty steeped in ancient history. Learn how it’s home to the original, outdoor site of Iceland’s first parliamentary assembly, the Althingi, that began in 930, and see the extraordinary Thingvellir rift, where the tectonic plates of America and Eurasia face each other over a narrow valley.

Snap photos as your guide explains how the plates are gradually pulling apart, and then continue to the Gullfoss waterfall. Marvel at the double-tiered falls and, with luck, catch sight of one of the famous rainbows that forms in the mists.

Next, visit the incredible geothermal region of Geysir, known for its hot springs and geysers. Take in the bubbling pools and steam vents, and see Strokkur, a waterspout that shoots to around 98 feet (30 meters) in the air.

Your tour then ends back at the original start point in Reykjavik.

Lovely day touring Golden Circle

Michael our guide and Gunnar our driver were excellent guides. They got us to the three spots on time, and we were even early to some spots due to less traffic. The waterfalls and the geyser were lovely, and you get to spend about 1.5 hour at the 2nd stop to get lunch, at the Geysir food court (get the lamb soup!) All the stops had stores and restrooms as well. Do show up at your pickup on time. The mini bus to take us to the BSI bus terminal was super punctual (you have to show up 30 min before your tour time, so for 10am, our pickup was 9:30am) Bundle bundle bundle up! The waterfall especially is very windy. The first and third stops had inclines and stairs to walk up and down so this is a heads up on that.

It was the most beautiful experience I have ever experienced! We experienced the cracking of the tectonic plates, the hot springs geysers that was sensational and the beautiful, magnificent waterfall that was breathtaking!

The tour was really great and took us to some amazing places (specifically didn’t want to do my own driving in snow). The guide was funny and so knowledgeable. I learned more about history and geology than I expected and I really enjoyed it. He even had a white board and drew pictures for us to understand.

Don’t use gray line Iceland for your tours

I won’t even give it a single star since we had worst experience with gray line Iceland , we booked two tours with them , for northern lights tour , they did not pick us up from hotel. Tour was supposed to start at 9:30 pm and nowhere it was mentioned pick up starting at 9:00 pm, they booked us on next day but it was not a good experience , tour guide was not good. And for golden circle tour we requested refund and they refused to give it since we wanted to add secret lagoon to the tour and they were not offering that experience. Overall it was a very bad experience and I wont recommend it to anyone. Bus travel Iceland and Reykjavík exercusions are way better with modifying and cancellations. And we wanted to change the plan since blue lagoon was closed and our reservation got cancelled . It was not our fault but they refuse to consider.

In addition, we can not amend an insisting booking without the confirmation or request from Viator as your direct booking agent since your payment was made through them, and changing of booking may involve additional/reduction of charges. Fab day visiting the golden circle

Fab Golden circle trip yesterday. The trip is run by Greyline Tours and our guide was Bjorn. He was fab- loads of info throughout the trip. All three locations were absolutely beautiful. We had ample time at each. The lunch stops are pretty expensive so if you are trying to work to a budget bring a packed lunch. Easy quick & prompt pick up and drop off.

I want to love this tour but by the end I had a huge headache. First the company needs to better explain the pickup/dropoff process. I had read previous reviews that had missed their pickup so luckily I called the day before to confirm. I was told the company would send either a Grayline Bus or a "green" bus to pickup from the hotel. I was told to be outside at 9:25 AM. 9:30 arrives and no pickup by either bus, however, several other vans and buses had pulled up in front of the hotel. All say Reykjavik Tours, Glacier and Airport. At 9:40 I contact the tour company and they assured me the bus was on its way. 9:48 a "green" colored city bus pulls up and I had to go to the driver and ask if this was the correct transportation. This bus then takes you to Grayline where you will get on the actual tour bus, I would just advise bookers if in doubt, ask every bus and van that pulls up to your stop if they have you on the list. Drop off, the tour guide just starts yelling out bus stops numbers. I had no idea what bus stop we would be dropped off at since we had been picked up at the hotel. I finally pulled up Google maps and just found one close to the hotel. Secondly, while the tour guide was very knowledgeable about Iceland and history, she talked the whole 8 hours of the tour. At times, I just wanted to look at the scenery and enjoy the bus ride. I don't think anyone on the ride had a clue at times what she was talking about because we had all just stopped listening. Please limit the information given on a tour to perhaps a few details about the locations visited. Talking for 8+ hours about history from the 1100's is not necessary and ruined the entire trip.

None, bus didn't pickup as promised. Getting back on the bus the bus driver wouldn't open the front door so you had to use the side door where the stairs are steep and difficult.

Brilliant trip all round. Comfortable coach with a knowledgable and funny guide. He seems to know so much about everything and made the journeys between the stops very funny. We loved all the attractions we visited, but perhaps could have done with more time at thingvellir and less at the geyser but I guess getting the balance right for everyone is hard.
