What To Expect

A unique and interesting way to go sightseeing in Rome, this ‘Angels and Demons’ tour is inspired by Dan Brown’s novel, but there is no requirement for having it read it or being a fan of Brown’s. It’s a memorable way to explore the city’s lovely squares, fountains, architecture, and churches, made interesting with the twist of visiting lesser-known sites where pagan and Christian symbolism intertwine.

Following your guide, who is knowledgeable about both Roman history and the details of the novel, walk along Rome’s hallowed streets, stopping to discover sights like a hidden passageway that dates back centuries. As you hunt for secrets left around the city by Bernini and Galileo, the two heads of the Illuminati, visit locations mentioned in the book and hear about the Four Altars of Science, which represent the four elements of water, air, fire, and earth.

Sights you’ll see include the Church of Santa Maria del Popolo, St. Peter's Square, the Church of Santa Maria della Vittoria and Ecstasy of St. Teresa, Piazza Navona, and the Church of Illumination, where you’ll glimpse the secret passageway that links the Vatican to Castel Sant'Angelo.

I don’t want to bring down their ratings too badly, because we didn’t actually go on the tour. The ending point was mapped to a Castel Sant Angelo that was 1.5 hours away from the starting point. We thought we would have no way back to our lodging, so we didn’t go. It wasn’t until our Vatican Tour that we realized it was the wrong location. We have yet to receive any sort of correspondence after three days, and we messaged the tour operator prior to the tour. We are hoping for a refund, but we’re unsure if we are going to get it.

Alessandra was a great guide who was very passionate about the book/movie. She was able to separate the fact from the fiction and told us which parts of the story were filmed at actual locations and which weren't. After piazza del poppolo, where the tour started, we were driven around in a comfortable bus until we had to visit piazza navona.

We loved this tour! Our guide was so knowledgeable and friendly. She was engaging and funny, too! We actually got to hear the Pope speaking at the Vatican when we visited. We had a couple of changes because of availability of the sites and she pivoted and made it a really enjoyable experience. This is a must do tour if you are a fan of the book or the movie.

Rob, our guide is an amazing story teller and actor! He wove the story of the book perfectly. The photo I added will only make sense once you take this tour. We had a great time. This is a rather long tour, 4 hours! Everyone had a blast. The locations chosen, the information, they were all great. But Rob is truly the gem. One thing that wasn't cool is the difference between the promise on Viator website and the actual voucher. There is a drinks break. In Viator website there's a promise that you can choose a drink or a gelato. On the voucher there is only drinks. I was really looking forward to the gelato.... please fix this Viator

In the beginning I was so excited about this tour, unfortunately it didn’t meet my expectations. Basically you have 5-10 minutes in each church for visiting (2 churches) and St Peter square , then free time in St Angelo Castle. Visiting castle was spectacular. Angela our guide was amazing, very educated, driver Omberto was so professional, and we had one free drink as well. I was expecting to see some hidden ways and passages, or underground, we saw only few clues, I might be wrong. Anyway, if you have extra time and money do this tour, sorry

It was an interesting tour, with a very knowledgable guide. Having a bus transporting the group between the sights was an excellent idea. We liked the fact that it was a small group. The only disappointment was the fact that we could not get into the Castel Sant'Angelo. The only other problem was finding our guide at the beginning, as it was not in quite the place we were told, and he was a bit late.

I booked this tour because I'm a fan of Dan Brown's thrillers and because of the unique itinerary. Over the course of four hours, we crisscrossed the city and visited a lot of great sites, like St. Peter's Square and the Castel Sant'Angelo. It was one of my favorite experiences in Rome, partly because our guide brought the story to life and had a great sense of humor.
