Overview

See a different side of Santorini with this small-group horseback safari, designed for riders of all experience level. You'll start in Megalochori and ride out to Eros Beach , where you'll get a chance to check out rock formations and black sands. You'll then continue up to a hill to take in views out over the sea and have your photo taken before you return to the stables.

We will meet in The Family bakery 30 MINUTES BEFORE THE RIDE!!! There is a big sign in front of the Bakery: Santorini Horse Riding. Please wait there. We recommend wearing comfortable long pants or leggings and closed shoes (if it is possible) on the horse riding tour.

A whinny, a neigh and a great day!

We had some trouble arranging a car to get to the location and we were late. I was so stressed, that all ended when the operator said they would send their car and driver. Although we were late, they were warm and welcoming and made me forget all about my mornings trouble. The guide was so fun to chat with, the horses were spirited and friendly, the scenery was spectacular!

Wonderful wonderful experience ! The guides, the driver , the owner …. Everyone was magnificent! Our horses Petros, an Arabian and Gilbert, a Fresian were the sweetest ever . With it being prior to busy season we were the only 2 on the tour and it was an unbelievable experience. Highly recommend !

It was one of the unbelievable moments that we could imagine amazing experience and beautiful memories to remember been a bit nervous and sceptical when we got there that I wont be able to do it after I seen how big the horses are so we have decided to go for a private tour instead of going with the group paid extra for this just so we could enjoy it more the beautiful scenery and black sandy beach , when she got on the horse she was quite confident with the horse as she was being pulled by instructor but when I got on the horse I sat down on the horse he felt im nervous so he turned back then gone down the hill straight to the fence glad there were instructors holding the rope pulling the horse back to the stable been given the instructions again and it was much better the tour was long 2 hours to go to the sandy beach 1 hour there and 1 hour back which I was thinking i wont make it safe the roads were so narrow even cars were passing by lots of dogs near gates barking which I thought the horse could get scared and then thrown me off luckily I managed to get there safely never-mind the obstacles then we had a ride with horses around the shore of the beach thats when I lost my iPhone 14 and fell out of my shirt pocket straight to the sea while i was riding the horse without realising it that my phone just fell out of my pocket so glad the instructor has noticed that asking me whether I have lost something so she immediately stopped the horses and found it i was shocked that it has already gone fell into the sea or that my horse has stepped on it and its now cracked or broken in pieces but for my luck it was not and all working otherwise there wouldn't be any memory taken our instructor has taken beautiful photos and videos we are proud of then we had to go back which I was feeling much better and confident after returning its just my horse were a bit slow due to his leg problems which I noticed and asked why is he doing that the instructor said its just his bad habit so when we were almost there my horse stepped on a rock or something falling down on his knees with his head to the ground almost making me falling off the horse glad I was holding myself I was shocked thinking of what could have just happened to me I shouted out at my instructor as they didn’t see the tripping as were in front of me she thought I fell or something said if im ok but the horse was surely not either way he was tired or his leg was hurt so the instructor said she will have a look into that but after all this I can say it was worth it one of the best memories ever made thank you

Unfortunately I advise anyone who has never done this tour to never spend your money doing it. The way to that beach is horrible, there is nothing to enjoy, see the photos, the ugly beach you can see in the photos, if you think you can ride a horse on the beach and take good pictures, you will be wrong. I booked this tour with the intention of being able to at least gallop on the sand, there is no sand, only stones. I have a lot of riding experience and for me it was frustrating, the tour guide was unbearable. I do not recommend this tour to anyone, not counting old and tired horses.

Secondly, we have never got such bad words ever what you wrote down here and you could ruin our loved business for 10 years, our beloved activity and tours where we try our best every day with our beloved horses. Our horses are not old at all! All of them are under 15 years. Regarding your words about the Beach is unacceptable what you could write down here about our beautiful island, our beautiful Santorini. THE TRIP ADVISOR AND THE VIATOR SHOULD BLOCK DIRECTLY THIS ATTACKING REVIEWS which can ruin not just a family/company but also a picture of an amazing island as SANTORINI!!!We kindly ask you to remove this review and text us or call us personally which is much more acceptable!

90% is on very dry dusty boring trail. 10% is by the ocean. Guides were not engaging. Be sure NOT to wear shorts.

The horse riding tour was really fun and interesting. It was my first time riding a horse and the staff was very knowledgeable and friendly. The time spent on the beach was brief but the horse ride down to the beach was still very picturesque.

Such a fun experience riding through the wineries and to the beach on the horses. Even with little experience the horses were safe and the staff was great!

I almost fell off the horse when she Tripped and went down on one knee. The ride was longer than anticipated and we finished so late we missed the tram to the port which stopped at 9 pm.

We had a great time on this excursion. The pickup point was easy to find. We left for the horse riding adventure right on time. They got us on horses very quickly and it was a fun experience. Arriving at the Black sands Beach was astonishing. It's a beautiful destination for pictures. We highly recommend it..

Late May was the perfect time of year. Sunny but not hot and the scenery was great. The pictures they took with our own cellphones were so amazing and they took tons of them. That in itself was worth it. Totally worth the money and time. Great experience

We enjoyed our sunset riding experience. The horses were well behaved and are healthy (maybe an odd comment, but I've experienced some other rides where that wasn't the really the case). The trail guides were all pleasant and informative. Meeting at the Family Bakery was convenient.

Really enjoyed this. Tour was amazing with really great views. Lots of excellent pictures and the horses were obviously well taken care of and loved. My son wouldn't stop asking to go again for the rest of our time in Santorini. We took the sunset 2 hour tour.

Im used to horses being picked by height or weight but these were picked for us by “level of expertise” and boy, did you need to be an EXPERT. they asked each of us how many times wed rode a horse and most were beginners even my dad only said a few times but got the most difficult of them all. There was only one person working there who seemed like the horse trainer (they listened to him and he rode in the back to watch everything) and he was great I feel that that was the only reason we were relatively safe. The other workers seemed young and like they were learning and would look to this person for help. The ride to the beach wasn't too bad just very dusty. But on the way back these horses were donnneee with us. Unfortunately they instructed the horses to gallop most of the ride back in order to get them home faster because they were irritable. this for me was super painful and not what I'm used to in my beginner horseback experiences i felt like I was going to fall off. Also the biggest scare for me was when my Dads horse “betty” reared up trying to get my dad off of her. Luckily he’d had more experiences with horses than he let on to help correct it but that was dangerous. I feared I was next because my horse seemed to follow Bettys actions the whole time. This would have been one star without the trainer I mentioned. Definitely would not have felt safe at all without him. I realize animals are unpredictable but I think on a hot day also shortening this experience might help the horses not be so irritated

Not as expected

This was definitely not what we expected when we booked a beach horseback ride. First, we were in a very large group so it took quite a bit of time to get everyone ready to go. Once we started, the majority of the ride was through a neighborhood and the path was concrete, it then turned to a softer path but there was so much dust in the air it made for an unpleasant ride. When we finally got to the beach it was pretty but soon after arriving there were several rather scary issues. There were a couple of new attendants. One lost her horse when she got off and another worker had to run it down. 2 other horses got into a scuffle with guests on them. A 3rd guest was thrown off her horse and ended up with a bloody leg. All of this took time to sort out and it was 90 degrees. We were all out of water, hot and frankly nervous to continue the ride. However, we had no choice but to make the ride back to the table, once again on the hard concrete path in the hot sun. Unfortunately I would not recommend this ride. If you still want to go, plan for the earliest ride. We had the 10am and it was very hot. I also understand that due to Covid restrictions being lifted and the big crowds in Greece (and everywhere) right now, it will take time to train new workers. Hopefully they will become more experienced in dealing with the horses and ensuring the safety of the guests.

A very memorable experience! Coming down the hill and seeing the gorgeous view of the water was so magical. I highly recommend bringing sunglasses. There are some very dusty parts of the ride.
