What To Expect

Make your way to Tokyo’s Ryogoku Station’s West Gate in early afternoon to begin your sumo experience. You’ll head inside Ryogoku Kokugikan, Tokyo’s famous sumo stadium. Enjoy the sumo museum and walk around Ryogoku the area with a professional guide who also loves sumo.

According to Japanese adherents of sumo, the sport dates back more than 1500 years, developing as an outgrowth of the country’s Shinto religious system. During the tournament, you’ll watch these massive wrestlers as they attempt to ‘force’ their opponent out of their ring, feeling the roar of the crowd as the momentum literally shifts back and forth between the competitors.

Children 3 years old and under can enter for free, however they will not have their own seat and will need to sit on your lap. Children 4 years and up must have their own tickets.

There is a place in the stadium you can store baby strollers, however they cannot be brought up to the seats.
Large luggage cannot be brought into the seat.
This is a group tour. We will leave at 2:30PM sharp, so please make sure to be there on time!
No changes or refunds of any kind can be made less than 24 hours prior to the tour start time.

The Sumo tournament was amazing to watch and our guide was very informative. I didn’t understand however why my group of 8 people had paid close to $200 per ticket and the other members of our tour group - same seats, also Australian had only paid $50 a ticket- feel a bit ripped off.

This is a great cultural experience to witness in person. Our guide Nobu was excellent and provided our group the history and nuances of sumo which made us appreciate our tour even more. Witnessing the sumo wrestlers in person makes you appreciate the dedication and perseverance they must endure to achieve success I would highly recommend this tour as a way to experience Japanese culture.

Sumo it's one of the most interesting tradition of Japan. The opening ceremony was beatiful, the bouts very fun to watch and hear the rooting of the people for their favorite wrestlers really send you go back in time to Edo period :) It was really interesting the explanation about the wrestlers ranking system, the techniques and even the religion mean of sumo, a must do experience if you're lucky enough to be in Japan when tournaments are held

Attending the final day of the September Sumo Tournament in Tokyo was an amazing experience! Our tour guide, Yuri, was wonderful- friendly, informative, considerate & helpful. Although the seats were in Section B of the upper level, there was still a clear view of the sumo wrestlers. Although it’s much cheaper to buy tickets directly from the providers, we found it impossible to get them online, so this was the best alternative to that. Nice to have a guide showing the way & explaining different aspects of the tournament. Would definitely recommend!
