What a wonder time. Akiko was a wonderful tour guide, and sushi teacher was very patient with us. We were with only one other couple, and it was perfect. Walked the market, learned a lot and tasted some great local flavors. The class also had a few great surprises, including salmon roe and scallops as specials to the dish. Thank you ABC Cooking for bringing the experience to life!

Thank you for writing review for us. We are glad you had a good time with us and hope our tour will be unforgettable memory of your Tokyo visit.
Definitely worth it
Sean_B, Nov 2023
First, the tour of Tsukiji was great! I thought I had a good idea of it when I had gone through solo, but being there with Akiko made a world of difference, if for no other reason than she knew where the samples were. The cooking lesson with Mazumi was equally great, we learned how to make sushi rice, miso stock, and two types of sushi. Then it was topped off with Hokkaido scallops and clams and sake.

Many thanks for such a sweet review!! We hope your experience will be a good memory. Hope you to have a wonderful trip!
Both market and cooking were excellent
Tim_L, Nov 2023
Highly recommend this tour. This is the best way to experience the market as I've been there by myself and it was overwhelming but with the guide you get to experience do much more with lots of free samples. The cooking course was excellent as well, with a real hands on experience.

We enjoyed walking through Tsukiji outer market with our guide, Akiko. She answered our questions and pointed out highlights. We especially enjoyed learning to make miso soup and sushi. The cooking school was clean and organized. I always wanted to learn how to make tamago (rolled egg)! Miwako was our teacher. She was very organized, patient and encouraging. It was an enjoyable and interesting experience!

Very basic sushi cooking class, not much information given by hosts
Catja_F, Oct 2023
This experience was okay, rather less than I expected. First we walked through the market and tried a few dried soy beans. Afterwards we took the bus to the cooking center where we made very basic sushi (like a maki roll and nigiri and egg omelette). I would have wished for more information about the market, maybe try some traditional sashimi or even shop for the sushi we made. Throughout the sushi class I was also hoping for some more information about the sushi traditions in Japan, however both our hosts English language skills were very limited. The hosts were very friendly. If you have never made sushi at home, this might be a good class for you, however if you have some knowledge already you’ll probably be bored. I highly recommend going to the Tsuski market by yourself in the morning before the tour starts to have a better experience of the food offered there.

Fun & Tasty Experience!
Debbie_R, Aug 2023
We thoroughly enjoyed our Tour and Class! Nobu was a wonderful and gracious guide. She helped us to efficiently explore Tsukiji Outer Market, pointing out some of her favorites, and encouraging us to stop and try the foods that appealed to us. We tried tamagoyaki (japanese omelet on a stick), red bean mochi with strawberries, dried scallops, and more. Then we walked through a luxury shopping district in/near Ginza, and made our way to the ABC Cooking Studio. It was spacious, bright, and clean. Nobu assisted our cooking instructor, Miwa, as our sushi lesson got underway. Both women were very friendly and helpful. We made stock, Japanese omelet (w/o the stick), and several kinds of rolled sushi. It was a fun, hands-on experience, that ended with a chance to sit and enjoy all of the food that we learned to make. I can't wait to try all of the recipes again at home! I'd definitely recommend this experience!

What a wonderful day we had! The walk through the market was amazing despite the drizzle, we got to see all the incredible ingredients, people, food! Then we rode the bus to the cooking school which was incredible, so professional looking! We made stock and sushi and had the best time while doing them. Highly recommend this experience

Good fish market tour
Esha_M, Apr 2023
We enjoyed the fish market tour but hoped that we would be buying the items we would later use for the cooking class. For the price, I dont think we made enough food
Response from Host, Apr 2023
Thank you for taking part in our tour. We are very sorry that we could not meet your expectations. We appreciate your valuable feedback and will use it in our future operations.
Great experience for a family with older children
Joanne_E, Apr 2023
It was great being guided around the market so we could ask what all the things are to try. Yes, you could do the market on your own but having someone to translate made it so much easier. Sushi making was excellent fun, and is something we'll definitely be trying at home.
Response from Host, Apr 2023
Thank you for joining us this time! It was our pleasure to have you join us and your review means so much to us. Thank you again and have a wonderful rest of your stay in Japan.

Great Outer Market Tour & Cooking Lesson
Christina_S, Jan 2020
We were a group of two families (four adults, two kids and two teens) traveling together in Tokyo. Everyone had a wonderful time on this half-day tour! It was enough to get a flavor of the local market/culture without losing the interest of the kids and teens (and husbands). We met Lucy at Tsukiji Hongan-ji. There was a little bit of a misunderstanding when we booked the tour. We thought that since the two families separately booked the same tour at the same time that we would be on the same tour, which is not the case (have one person book everyone on the same purchase to ensure that you're with the same group or contact the tour operator immediately afterwards and ask if they can put your reservations together in the same group). Despite our mistake, Lucy and the other guide made same quick phone calls and were able to get all of us together with the same guide. Lucy navigated us through the fish market with ease. She took us to some vendors of interest, but also let us stop at whichever vendors caught our eye. She was very patient with us. We never felt rushed, but she also kept things moving along. She did a great job of explaining to us the different foods/ingredients that we were seeing and also answering any questions about what we were seeing and being offered to try. None of us spoke Japanese. Lucy's English was great and she was very helpful translating for us. Afterwards, Lucy took us on a short bus ride over to the cooking studio. Masayo was the primary instructor with Lucy's assisting. We learned how to make Tomago, nigiri sushi, a rolled sushi and miso. Masayo explained each step very clearly in English. Our kids had a great time learning how to make sushi and they all ate everything that they made. Our daughter came home and asked if we could purchase a "Tomago pan" so she could make Tomago at home. Everyone in our group said they would recommend this tour to their friends.
Response from Host, Jan 2020
Many thanks for your review!! We apologize not being able to get your two groups together originally. We try to be flexible as much as possible for our guests, so we are glad that this time turned out to be OK. We hope your experience will be a good memory of Japan.
Fish, Food and Fun
Hermine_v_Stetten, Oct 2019
First part was a tour over the outer fishmarket with our awesome guide yoko who showed and explained us everything. We got a lot of information about traditional japanese food and could try everything (e.g. little dried crabs tasting like spicy crackers). After the tour we visited a modern equipped cooking school to learn to prepare a typical japanese meal. We had great fun and learned a lot with our enchanting chef Hiromi. Our conclusion: all thumbs up!!

Did this tour with 5 other friends and it was amazing. The fish tour of the market was interesting and we learned about the local food and customs. We took the bus to the cooking studio where we made sushi rolls and an an egg omelette. We ate and tasted sake. Everything was wonderful.
