Mount Batur Jeep Tour

Absolutely bloody excellent day! After a week in Legian, I couldn't wait to get out of the city. This tour absolutely blew my expectations out of the water. The drive out was lovely and our vehicle was comfortable. Our guide was really knowledgeable and friendly, but also didn't mind us snoring in the back-seat for an hour or so. From Legian the journey took 2.5 hours, but once you left the city the views really made the time fly. Arriving at the Caldera was one of the most amazing things I've seen on any trip. Within moments you've left the thick jungles of South East Asia and you're suddenly transported to a scene that could easily have come from a Scottish Loch. The three mountains ringing the lake was awe inspiring. This only got better as we descended into the caldera and came face to face with the lava flows. We transferred to a Jeep at a location in the caldera, where our guide also kindly made us a coffee. We were a bit worried about the temperature, but we needn't have as it was pleasant even in a t-shirt and shorts. Once we were in our Jeep (which does involve a bit of climbing in - could be an issue if you have mobility problems, though there is a front seat available), we began the tour proper. Once we left the road, it was super exciting. With the Jeep, we were traversing some pretty hard core off road tracks. We felt the tour was very self-paced. Our driver stopped at a couple of locations for us to take photos of the mountain and the amazing volcanic rocks. He was definitely willing to indulge some instagram moments, even though that wasn't really our vibe! He had answers to all our questions about both the volcano and the village, genuinely a really fascinating part of the world. Probably the single best thing we did while in Bali. I can't believe that this hasn't been more exploited, I'm certain that people will soon discover this whole area, but for now it is still a bit of a hidden gem.
