Of the many historic opera houses in Italy, few are more legendary than Venice’s Teatro La Fenice. Opened in 1792, the theater quickly became a major venue for opera and ballet. Today you can view the sumptuous 19th-century-style interiors during a musical or dance performance, or join a guided tour of the theater.
The theatre is magnificent, elegant and quaint, rich in history and the tour guide provided us with such history and knowledge about the theatre and it was worthwhile especially watching the opera in the evening.
Although the theatre was rebuilt and twice copied inside after the fire, you can feel the spirit of ancient time. It‘s worth visiting and listen to our guide Wanda.
Very interesting to see how the history of Venice is reflected in the building. Occupation by the French and then the Austrians followed by Italian indépendance are all marked. The impact of two fires is also explained by expert guide, Nicole.
Very interesting history to this stunning theatre. Stunning theatre. Hard to believe it’s history and that’s what’s behind the front you see in the square.
Excellent tour of Teatro La Fenice! Very informative and the theater is beautiful. Guide shared interesting facts about the 2 fires that theater experienced and I found the history of the royal box to be fascinating. It's always politics!
Well worth your time, even if you do not like opera or ballet. The building is exquisite. Napoleon sat in the Royal box!
Seeing the Theater I’ve read about all my life was fantastic. The craftsmanship and beauty were a reminder of what we have lost over the centuries. Modern buildings are well made to standards but these buildings were made to impress and give you a glimpse of heaven with the materials and art work.
Our guide was knowledgeable and kind. She presented to both English and Italian speaking without pause.
A worthwhile stop when you are in Veneto. Also I learned it is call La-fineechee. Maria Calas performed here. What a beautiful lady with a voice of an angel.
Bravo!
While we were being shown around the building, there was a rehearsal in process, by an orchestra. Our guide asked that we be allowed to listen in and sit very quietly in one of the boxes overlooking the stage. The music (Wagner) was heavenly and I was deeply moved. What a stroke of luck that this should be happening at the very time that we were there!
