Venice comprises more than 100 islands, but “the Venice Islands” refer to the three most famous outlying islands in the Venetian lagoon: Murano, Burano, and Torcello. Murano, just north of Venice proper, has been the center of Venice’s famous glass-making industry since 1291. Farther north, Burano has quiet canals lined with brightly painted fishermen’s houses and is home to Venice’s traditional lace artisans. The neighboring island of Torcello was first settled in 452.

Murano Glass - a real treasure
I have always been interested on glass blowing. It seems to be simple but the art takes a lifetime to learn, The beauty of the glass created from the simple of act of twirling and blowing is not to be taken astride. I had always loved Murano glass. Seeing it made in front of me makes a reality for me.

Great trip
It was a great trip and reasonably priced. It is helpful to be next to yellow kiosk when the tour guide starts walking to the boats ( she holds a flag), so that you do not get lost in the crowd. There were enough people to fill up two boats. The glass demonstration in Murano was great, Burano was charming and Torcellp’s Byzantine church interesting.

Great, relatively inexpensive way to see the lagoon’s outer islands
Really enjoyed our day cruising between all the islands! But no real surprise, because it was sunny, calm, and about 70 degrees F. And, as it was the last week in October, hardly anyone was on the boats, so we had great seats the entire time, and on several legs, it was like a private cruise as we were the only two passengers 😊 We had a really awesome day 😎
