Do not book this trip! You risk being put on a terrible-quality boat while others are on actual 5-star cruises.
The ship was advertised as "5-stars" but that couldn't be further from the truth. The boat we were placed on, the Papyrus, was over 30 years old and is not fit to house people. We even spoke to the front desk staff, and they confirmed the boat was in fact only "2 or 3 stars" today. So not at all what we paid for and were promised. Viator and the tour company only offered a less than 10% refund after ruining our vacation.
The first room we were placed in, 221, had about half an inch of water on the floor when we entered the cabin which was coming out of the bathroom/toilet and soaking the carpet. We told them we would not stay in that room, and they moved us down a floor to 112. They subsequently vacuumed up the water and gave the room to another unsuspecting group later.
In room 112 there was an extremely strong odor of diesel fuel in the air. So much so that my husband and I both had bad headaches after only minutes in the room. I messaged the tour staff and told them we did not feel safe staying in that room (see attached messages.) I honestly felt we might get carbon monoxide poisoning in the night. (There was no carbon monoxide detector in the room.)
After they told me there was nothing they could do as all other ships were booked, we walked across the street and booked a hotel for that night for 1,400EGP.
The next morning, an Indian family of about 7 people left the boat due to the terrible quality of their rooms, and they were forced to spend hundreds of dollars extra per night to stay on a different, smaller boat that was actually 5 stars. We could not afford to make the same move, and, being essentially trapped in a foreign country, we were forced to stay in 219 for the final 2 nights. While certainly much better than 112, room 219 still smelled strongly of diesel fuel.
Essentially, we feel we were tricked by the listing and placed on a boat that the tour staff knew was inferior, but hoped they could get away with. If you examine the reviews, you will see plenty of other much nicer boats mentioned, and that is the quality of boat we were expecting when booking. I have attached a couple of photos of the boats mentioned in prior reviews, along with a few photos of our dirty, dingy cabin on the 2-3 star Papyrus.
Mohammad was a great tour-guide though, and, while rushed, the tours were good. But the trip was really ruined by our accommodations. Salt was rubbed in the wounds as well when we had to walk through the lobby of some of the ships that others booking this same tour were put on that were GORGEOUS. All anyone in the groups with us could do was just angrily laugh at our terrible luck.
