Very Good, Informative & Lots of Walking!

I enjoyed the walking tour of the Acropolis and the Ancient Agora! It was nice to have an expert guide who was well informed on the mythology and the buildings in the tour. Our tour guide went into a lot into the history of the buildings and how many times they changed hands, the stories around them and how they related to mythology. Why the myth may have been created, etc. I would let people know to be prepared for 4 hours of walking and standing (we were so happy we did this in the spring when it was fairly cool, I have no idea how people survive it in the summer) and because you are going over many sites and stories, be prepared for a lot of information. It was a great way to get a big picture of the Acropolis and how Athens came to be.

I truly enjoyed the journey to and the experience atop the Acropolis—definitely the highlight of my trip! We traveled at a great pace, pausing periodically for learning/story-telling and picture-taking. Despite being a group tour (~10 guests + our guide), I was satisfied with the level of 1:1 attention I received. Each of my questions was answered, and this Greek mythology/Xena: Warrior Princess fan geeked out. Dream come true. Many thanks to my patient and well-informed guide, Michale(sp?), for delivering an experience that I’ll always remember. TIPS: • Allow Alternative Athens to buy your tickets for you. • Book the morning tour. The crowds will be much more manageable, and the sun/heat much more bearable. • Opt in to the agora tour. The views are worth it. • Wear broken-in, non-slip, closed toe shoes. • Take WATER, a HAT, and SUNGLASSES. I recommend taking an insulated water bottle that will keep your water cold. • Explore the Acropolis Museum beforehand so you can have references during the tour. Start with the third floor.

Guide Vicky really knew her stuff. My 11 year old found it a bit too long and lost interest when we veered off the mythology and onto topics like the structure of the parthenon . We didn't complete the agora part of the tour as he was too tired after 3 hours but that's not the fault of the guide . The tour was well organised and the meeting place clear and easy to find. There were helpful reminders of when and where to meet and to get the operator to pre book tickets

Okay experience could be better

Great tour, learned so much and did not have to do any reading or homework before hand. Met at a central area and group of 10. Got to see all the major attractions with an English speaking guide. On previous tours they always gave you a device with an earpiece to hear the tour guide. In this tour, she did give it out so we had to be very quiet to hear her speak. It was hard to follow honestly, given there was a lot of people around and it was rainy and windy. We climbed the Acropolis, but later found out there is an elevator. I wish she would have told me since my 60 year old mother had a hard time climbing the steep steps. Other than that, it was an okay experience given the other tours I’ve had with aviator.

This is a must do trip. You see so much and learn so much about Greek history. I heard Greek mythology from a different angle. Our guide Micheal was super friendly and very entertaining. He had so much to share. So many nice mythological stories. Got to see the magnificent acropolis. Amazing tour. Please do not miss. I had booked through Viator. They could have added a link for buying entry tickets. I could have avoided confusion. On the whole a great must do tour.

Our guide was phenomenal. Filled with information about Athenian history, outlandish tales of ruthless antics among deities, tragic-comic appearances of hapless humans and surprising etymological revelations (about the Greek roots of English words), she told each gripping story with animated humor. I didn't want to miss a beat. Highest recommendation.

A must do when in Athens

Beware do not book!!!!!!! I was scammed

Please don’t not buy this tour! Stay away at all costs. You have to purchase tickets to different sites ahead of time. I tried to do so repeatedly and have all of the proof on what’s app. I spoke to three different people from Viator that would only send me the link to buy tickets but would/could not help me purchase. There was an error code and it wouldn’t work. I even sent them screenshots and asked to please cancel bc I couldn’t take a 30 minute taxi and not have tickets. They only said they’d request a refund for me. That was denied. I ended up going on my own and it was still much better than being dragged around for 4 hours. Not worth the money or headache. Awful customer service!!!!

Our tour guide, Demi, was excellent and we had a wonderful experience on our tour! She shared captivating stories about the mythology behind the figures associated with the historical sites we were at and did a great job at making the group interactive, which I enjoy! She was very knowledgable about the sites and maneuvered our group well through the crowds - especially at the Acropolis, it’s packed. We felt the tour did a great job of taking us to the most important historical sites - we only added a couple more spots on our own time. After the tour, Demi provided great recommendations for areas to visit and restaurants to try. We went to her recommended spot for lunch with another couple we met on the tour and had a blast!

Informative but More Walking than You'd Think

This tour was a lot of fun, but a lot of walking. I know it is a walking tour, but expect your feet to hurt by the end of the day, especially because the end point is kind of farther than you'd think. The information was good and our guide was great! She was so sweet.

Alexandros gave a lot of facts and was very knowledgeable. He also tailored his tour to adults and kids alike. He made the history come alive! He gave us time for restroom and eating breaks and moved at a comfortable pace. We recommend his tours highly!
