A pleasant surprise
Robert_W, Sep 2018
We had a couple of days to kill between a planned Ireland visit and a cruise ship itinerary. We had friends that had visited Killarney in the past so we did some web searches. We have never used Viator previously so weren't sure what we could expect. Our accommodation was a bed & and breakfast close into town. The gal running the place was so friendly. I usually don't care for B&B stays, but this one was especially nice. Our bus trip around the Ring of Killarney was wonderful even though our weather was a mix of rain and sun. I would definitely recommend this tour.
Concerns not addressed

Meeting a representative (Sally) at the Rail Station we were told we would not have a host for the train, we would need to switch trains halfway through (our train tickets did not sync with this,) and there would be someone at the other end to meet us-named Bob, maybe. No one had secured our seating (although we had registered for this tour 6 months prior) and just about all the seats were confirmed for other passengers (It was a very busy travel time due to World Meeting of Families.) (Documents stated first class travel with confirmed seats and a host.)We had no phone contact and no hotel name on our paperwork. Sally tried to get a hotel name for us but was not successful. She assured us she would host us home the following day. Bob did meet us at Killarney and put us into a cab (4 large people with luggage, 1 small cab) to a bed and breakfast because he was busy with a bus tour. He said he'd pick us up in the morning. He had lost his phone so we had no phone contact information. We were dropped at a bed and breakfast that was more like a hostel (documents indicated a 4 star hotel.) It was clean and the proprietor was kind enough to explain the neighborhood. (We had no idea where we were and what we would be doing for the next 16 hours until Bob returned.) We called the number on the Viator website and spoke with a nice young man who tried to help and was concerned with our situation but the local office was closed. He could only expedite our issue to the main office personnel and assured us someone would call within 3 hours. No one called or even emailed and it's been 6 days. Bob did return the following day with a bus for 18 people while expecting 21 people (luckily 3 people did not show up) From there it was a lovely tour and Bob was a knowledgeable host. Sally did meet us for the rail trip back to Dublin and our seats were confirmed. There was another train switch without indication on the train tickets and we were told to stay with Sally because otherwise there would be an issue with our tickets. (This confirmed our concerns with the train transfer at the start of our trip!) This should have been a great trip, we had looked forward to it for months but too many unaddressed issues put a huge damper on it.

Very nice trip and not rushed by having an overnight stay at a very nice hotel the night before. The coach ride was great with plenty of photo stops along the tour. Our tour guide was first class, fun and very knowledgeable. The train trip was easily managed and overseen by company representatives all the way. They kept us informed and never wondering about the trip details, meeting points, etc. Excellent trip and my wife and I enjoyed it immensely. I would do it again.

A relaxing trip through the Irish...
Shannon O, Aug 2017
A relaxing trip through the Irish countryside provided by Irish Railway tours. The tour began by rail at Dublin's Heuston Station and showcased the legendary forty shades of green of Ireland as it wound it's way to Killarney for an overnight stay at a local bed and breakfast. Our B and B, Acara, provided excellent beds and a delicious breakfast in the morning. The bus tour of the Ring of Kerry began the next morning with a front-door pick-up. The tour informative commentary was provided by Peter Cuffe, and our driver Phillipo, navigated the winding roads. The tour showcased some of the peninsula's best locations with several stops along the way for lunch and to stretch our legs before our return to Killarney station for our return to Dublin.

Overall it was a good experience...
Roger F M, May 2014
Overall it was a good experience with plenty of stops on the coach tour and a very comfortable hotel. Unfortunately this was not matched by our reception at the station in Dublin. The representative was not there when we arrived. When we found him, and he gave us our papers, we found that we did not have seat reservations on the train. We were told we could sit anywhere where the 'reserved' signs were not illuminated. After we had found suitable seats and stowed our luggage, the reservation system was switched on and showed that we were sitting in seats reserved for others. This led to a scramble to find unreserved seats in other carriages. On our return journey seats were reserved and a representative guided us to them. If our first contact had been like this we would have been completely satisfied.
