Lovely views and vistas. Richard was a great tour guide. We first stopped at the stables for a 90 minute horseback ride through woods and bog, guided by Joe and Emily. They made sure we were safe on the horses and we got to walk and trot on the trail. We next headed to Enniskerry for a delicious lunch at Poppies, home cooking. Driving through the mountainous bogs, lots of views and understanding of how the mountains hold and filter rainwater. Next down to Glendalough for a hike through St. Kevin’s cemetery and to Lower and Upper Lakes.

Our tour guide is very nice and friendly, and let us know a lot more about the city and the places through different stories. The horse riding is fantastic, This is my fist time but i have a beautiful experience with the horse!
The horseriding...
Maximilien_J, Apr 2024
The horseriding expérience is not worth it but thé guide of the tour IS Amazing. Lots of both funny and interesting annecdotes
Tour guide Jillian was fabulous! Horseback riding was frightening and not a good experience.
Jennifer_V, Apr 2024
Jillian was wonderful! She was very funny and informative. Horseback riding another story. I have ridden a horse a handful of times but know the basic commands. They gave me a horse who (according to them) was cranky, stubborn, liked to eat grass all the time and disliked many of the other horses. They told me this after we started riding. She wouldn’t keep up with the other horses and the guide in the back kept yelling at me to kick her to get her to go. All the kicking in the world wouldn’t make her move any faster. She only listened when he told her to speed up and then she took off galloping! She didn’t stay on the trail and brought me through trees. It was quite scary. When we finished, the other members of the tour remarked on how unruly my horse was (so I am not exaggerating). They give you boots to ride if you don’t have a shoe with a heel. They gave me what would equate to a 10 US and I am an 8. They felt like they would fall off. I was disappointed with the care of the horses also. They were very dirty and clearly my horse Betsy did not want to go for a walk on that day. They also bring them through very difficult muddy terrain. The horses slipped several times. I definitely would not do the horseback riding part of the tour again.

Hi Jillian, thank you for the feedback and this is very unusual as normally the horses are very calm.
A day in Wicklow Mountains Wonderland!
Cheryl_H, Apr 2024
Linda of Hilltop treks wonderful driver with commentary/stories of locales as we passed them…stopped for photo ops a few times allowing for study of the bogs and lakes used to film Vikings…good, home-made Irish selections for lunch stop at Poppie’s Kitchen….local artist display of scenes from Enniskerry’s past…some of our group toured Powerscourt, while the rest of us headed to the stables….horseback riding on country roads/paths and through the beautiful woods…trails were muddy due to recent rains, but horses were sure-footed and safe…some trotting was involved…most enjoyable trail-ride ever! Glendalough serene, beautiful place full of ancient history and remarkable stonework still in place. Wonderful way to spend a day exploring Ireland’s gorgeous springtime countryside!

The best day you'll ever have!
Karyn_P, Apr 2024
Jillian was the absolute best. She was an instant friend, and filled us with more knowledge and warm fuzzies than we could have asked for. Wish we could have had her as our guide for our entire vacation! The people from the stable were so kind, and the whole experience was a 100/10. Thank you so much for the best day of our trip! 🤍
Response from Host, Apr 2024
Thank you very much Karyn for the excellent review and I will pass along your kind words to Gillian.

Great 8 hour day relax and enjoy Ireland beauty
John_F, Apr 2024
Jillian, our guide, was spectacular. We enjoyed Ireland’s beauty at all of the stops. Poppies cafe and hanging in that great little town was so relaxing we wish that stop was longer.

A perfectly packed day tour!
ColleenClifford, Mar 2024
This was my first solo trip on a tour and I was very comfortable. Our guide Kevin was friendly, knowledgeable of Irish History, gave us great recommendations on places to go in Dublin, and a great DJ. I chose the horseback ride and it was one of my best nose to tail ride in all my travels yet. The tour was broken up well with breaks in between driving and plenty of opportunity for bathroom breaks. I Highly recommend taking this tour!

Thank you very much Colleen for the excellent review

Wicklow and horseback riding
Sherri_T, Mar 2024
Got us all to the correct locations on a rather wet day. Kevin kept everyone well informed with stories and mythology as was pertinent to where we were at. Great guide. Would highly recommend and ended up having him for another tour later on. Thanks again for all your great information
Response from Host, Mar 2024
Thank you very much Sherri for your excellent review and I will pass along your kind words to Kevin.
Must try experience
Nikita_S, Mar 2024
Great experience! My husband and I are inexperienced riders. I was initially a little scared to get on the horse but the staff at the stable made me feel comfortable and safe. They guided everyone throughout the journey and truly made it a once in a life time experience. The rest of the trip was calm and beautiful. Due to bad weather(We flew in the day it snowed pretty badly) we were not able to see the P.S. I Love You Bridge but our tour guide still showed us some amazing sights all while keeping our safety in mind.
Response from Host, Mar 2024
Thank you very much Nikita for your excellent review and maybe you'll see them next time.
Gracious hosts and great views.

Great tour!
Rebecca_L, Dec 2023
This was a great tour with lots of scenic views and opportunities to take pictures. We enjoyed the horseback ride as well. The people at the stable were friendly and the horses were seasoned and well behaved. Our tour guide, Richard was knowledgeable about the areas and offered many interesting facts about the locations we visited.

Came for the Horses, Wish We Had Skipped the Stables
Timothy_W, Nov 2023
Such a tough review to write. Really wish I could write two separate reviews. Let’s start with the positive: Kevin (SAINT Kevin) was awesome. He picked us up on time in Dublin, was a great driver, told some funny and semi-true stories, and we couldn’t be happier with the tour of Wicklow and Glendalough. Unfortunately, this is at best a 3 star review because the horseback riding experience was just abysmal. I don’t know if it was a bad day at the stables or what, but from the minute we got there, it seemed the staff didn’t want to be bothered with us. In the reviews I had read prior visitors indicated they were assessed for their riding ability and matched to horses. None of that happened here. We were given helmets with almost no regard to sizing, but told they were mandatory. I had to trade my boots in for muck boots because the girl checking us in said the boots didn’t have enough of a heel. I’m a moderate level Western rider, and ride weekly, but the one guide, a younger guy, treated me like I didn’t know what end of a horse goes which direction. The lead gal was extremely shy and hardly spoke. Both of them just kept looking at their watches and the only time they spoke was to repeat “Lean back going downhill, lean forward going uphill.” I was second in line, they put another couple between my wife and me. When I write reviews, I always include the names of guides who help us. I can’t today because they never even introduced themselves! I’ll digress at this point, but I really have nothing good to say about the stable and staff. My horse for the day, Ned, was a good horse, but I never got to really see what he could do. I was just along for the game of follow the leader. Maybe that’s what some people look for. The views were nice. Ireland is beautiful in the fall. Could have been a great experience, but the trail guides and staff kind of ruined it. Back to Kevin and the rest of the trip: no complaints. Glendalough was awesome, loved the lakes and the views. Sorry Hilltop for the 3 star, but Killegar Stables sank this one for you. Kevin deserves kudos and we would take another tour with hilltop, but we would not return to Killegar.

Thank you very much for the feedback and I'll talk to the stables about this review.
Not your average ride, but memorable fun, then a quiet more relaxed day
Sue_C, Nov 2023
The last tour of our week's trip and it was nice to have a smaller van instead of the big coach buses. Kevin was our driver for the day and though his microphone wasn't working the greatest, he was a great guide with patience. The horse-back riding was the most adventurous trail ride I've ever been on. Though it started out as your typical nose to tail line up down the path, the horse's took matter into their own hands when we reached some particularly boggy spots along the trail. You had to half trust your horse to find the best way through for themselves while keeping in mind that they're looking out for themselves and not necessarily the person sitting on their back as they cut through between different trees. Everything was fine, no one was hurt or came off their horse, it just definitely made things more interesting. The guide was wonderful about helping all us city folk and making sure everyone was doing ok. Poppy's was a quaint little diner were we stopped for lunch. It was the cheapest place we ate all week, too. Next up was a nice drive through the mountains with a couple stops for pictures. Then an hour and half or so of free time to walk along a nicely paved path through the woods to a lake. All in all, it was a more quiet day from our other tours and a nice way to wind down our trip.

Thank you very much for the very positive review.

Absolutely the best time ever! Joe and Emily were great guides. The horses are well trained. This is my 2nd ride with them and will continue to book this trip everytime I'm in Dublin. Shout out to Kevin the bus driver that picked us up. We enjoyed the brilliant Irish stories he told on the way there and back🍀💚
Response from Host, Nov 2023
Thank you very much Bonita for your excellent review. There is no better review than to come back again.
This Tour is a MUST!
Heather_M, Oct 2023
I planned this trip as a surprise for my boyfriend and it ended up being his favorite part of our whole vacation! The horseback-riding was incredible. We enjoyed the rest of the tour seeing beautiful views of the countryside afterwards, and our tour guide told us all kinds of fun stories and legends. I highly recommend this tour!
Response from Host, Nov 2023
Thank you very much Heather for your excellent review.
Not what we booked
Elizabeth_B, Sep 2023
Our actual tour guide, Gillian, was fantastic! However, the horseback riding experience, which is through another company, was not the best experience. We were supposed to ride through the forest, which would have been beautiful; however, a gate was locked and we instead walked the horses up and down the road with traffic. Not at all a relaxing ride.
Response from Host, Sep 2023
I'm sorry to hear this and I will look into more, thank you for letting me know.
