Overview

Head to the Italian Riviera on a day trip from Florence to the Cinque Terre, a UNESCO World Heritage site made up of five cliffside villages perched dramatically on the sea. After the drive from Florence, you’ll travel by boat (weather dependent) and short train rides to the villages of Monterosso, Vernazza, and either Riomaggiore or Manarola. You'll also have free time for swimming or to explore the workshops of local artisans.

For a full refund, you must cancel at least 24 hours before the experience’s start time.
If you cancel less than 24 hours before the experience’s start time, the amount you paid will not be refunded.
Any changes made less than 24 hours before the experience’s start time will not be accepted.

Cut-off times are based on the experience’s local time.
This experience requires good weather. If it’s canceled due to poor weather, you’ll be offered a different date or a full refund.

Great experience

This is a beautiful place to visit. While this visit was largely on our own, Marta was terrific at getting us from town to town, both on the ferry and on the train. She was so engaging and answered questions, directed us to dining places, and was generally helpful while we explored. Everywhere was packed, and Martha's presents kept that from being overwhelming. If we were to do it again, we would have skipped the lunch option. The food was okay, but we could have easily done better on our own.

Preferred Amalfi coast

We loved all of the views of the cities from the coast, especially. The time in each city was just enough to souvenier shop with tons of mediocre shop choices. It was hard to get a feel for life in each city in the short time we had, but it was a long day. Lots of train riding, and the train stations were quite crowded to get into. We enjoyed Amalfi coast a bit more; it had nicer shopping with similar views.

More travel than time at towns

Cinque Terre is beautiful! The 3 of the 5 towns we saw have their own charm and are worth seeing. Gave 3 stars because we did more traveling than spending time in the towns (2 hours each way by bus; 15 minutes walk from bus to train; total of 3 trains and ferry). Ferry was awesome and we were lucky that weather did not cancel it which would require trains only. Tour leader Marta and driver Roberto were amazing. There is a LOT of walking (steep village streets included). We are fit but those not used to a lot of walking might find this tiring. Suggest you skip the lunch with tour and get lunch in town.

Unfortunately, the only way to move from a village to the others within the Cinque Terre park is the train. The ferry does not reach all the villages. Cinque Terre region is characterized by its picturesque coastline villages and some uphill walks may be encountered during the excursion. This is probably my favorite experience to date! I've done this twice. Cinque Terre is absolutely beautiful!! There's a lot to see in a short amount of time, but it's certainly worth it. Sandro was wonderful! He clearly explained everything from start to end and really made it a great experience. Don't hesitate with this one. Book it and hope you're lucky enough to get Sandro!

Our guide Martha was excellent! She was friendly and extremely knowledgeable! We thought that the tour tried to cover too many places in Cinque Terre and therefore we spent a good amount of time waiting for trains that were frequently late.

Hoodwinked by a “train strike”!

Gilligan and the Skipper had things figured out! We were notified a few days prior to departure that there was a rail strike and there would be some additional bus and boat use. After the 1.5 hour drive to the first village we boarded a ferry for a 2 hour multi stop journey that allowed us to see one village for 30 minutes and another for 1 hour. All the time we watched the villages fill up with people from TRAINS. Renata, our guide was flustered but cool,calm, and collected. She was a STAR! Most people on our tour felt hoodwinked and deceived by the asinine belief that we wouldn’t see trains running or we wouldn’t be upset by spending hours on a boat and bus and saw very little time actually experiencing the sights.

Cinque Terre yes - use different tour company

This excursion would have received 4 stars without the event at the end. They need to advertise their meeting point better - I had to go to 3 separate excursion companies at same place to find the one we were with. There were no signs. The day was awesome until the last stop - we got left behind. We were at the meeting place at the designated time but were never told what train/destination as our guide already loaded on train without us. When we called the tour company after 15 minutes of looking - the tour company blamed us, did nothing to facilitate getting back to our hotel other than basically telling us we had to figure it out ourself. And no attempt to try & make it right after complaining via Viator. Again just blamed us.

Terrible experience. If...

Terrible experience. If you decide to book this trip be prepared to be herded like cattle in and out of public transport that is overcrowded and only given 20 minutes to explore each town. The train station are not equipped to deal with the overwhelming large crowds and it takes about 10 minutes to get off and back on to the platforms. Therefore by the 3rd town we just stayed on the platform to make sure we didn’t miss the train. I recommend that you break away from the tour and do your own thing and spend time doing what interests you. You can meet up with the tour leader at the end of the schedule tour time to take the bus back to Florence. Don’t take the lunch option. Not worth it, there are so many great places to eat. Lastly, don’t expect to have a beach experience. By the time you get to the last town, where the beaches are, there will be no chairs or ground space available. Be prepared to stand on the promenade and watch the beautiful views and water from a far.
