We had the best tour and this was ALL because of Ted!!! He really wanted to make sure we had the best time and got to try all the various foods in Kyoto! He made our tour and time in Kyoto! We STRONGLY recommend this tour as long as you get Ted! He is a gem! Great food recommendations and we even bought a bunch of things to bring home! Loving the various spices we have!

Brilliant tour of the food market

Ted took us on an amazing journey through Kyoto’s street foods which was fun and very tasty! All tailored to what we like with so many options throughout the market It was great to try food we’d never have eaten on our own, including Puffer fish!

Eiji was a very good guide and tried to stick with the long established food vendors in Nishiki rather than the more recent businesses that have less history with the market. He made the tour very comfortable and was very fluent in English. He had planned to take us to Gion for the last 90 minutes of the tour but when he learned we had already walked through Gion he made alternative plans that were very fun.

Eiji was a wonderful guide. He helped us prioritize local delicacies at the market such as hamo tempura or the sansyo pepper ice cream, and shared context and history as we went. So much deliciousness packed into just a few hours. Learning about my kid’s love of Nintendo he helped us detour from the itinerary to visit a couple other of local gems that made my kid’s day!

Interesting food and walking tour. Eiji was an great guide and shared a lot of interesting facts of the area and the food market. I tried some gross food (squid on a stick) and some delicious food (sashimi).

We went on a national holiday and there were many people at the market that day. Yoshihiro made it easy for us to traverse the market and brought us many tasty things. He also gave us additional tips for traveling around Kyoto.

Avoid. Waste of Time and Very Expensive

Was looking forward to this private tour and I had high hopes especially since it cost close to U.S. $200 a person. The guide was friendly and our first instruction was that we are not allowed to take photos on this tour. That he will take them on his phone and send it to us after. I thought it was weird but maybe he didn't want us to divulge the secrete itinerary on the food tour. His food 'tour' was ENTIRELY us walking down Nishiki market and sampling things. No hidden gems or hole in the wall eateries. He had an envelope with him and constantly reminded us that we can not spend more than what was in the envelope. The food in that market is dirt cheap. We never spent more than U.S. $5 on any item we tasted. The whole tour was a joke. We could have tasted food from every stall from Nishiki market by ourselves and ate until our stomaches burst and we would not have spent more than $60. What a waste of money and time! Kyoto has amazing food and a food tour needs to showcase the rich traditions. It's not just about squid on a stick followed my mochi on a stick. Go with a proper food tour from Ninja Food Tours or Arigato food tours. if you want a guide through the Nishiki market, Arigato tours has one a fraction of a fraction of the price of this one.

Ted was fantastic! He tailored the tour to our tastes, we left so full we skipped dinner that evening, hah. Thankfully, he let us know when we were halfway through the tour, so we could be sure we saved room for his three-course final stops at the end of Nishiki Market that he knew we *had* to get to (spoiler alert: it did not disappoint!). Our tour was scheduled for our first full day in Kyoto, and Ted very kindly made sure we had recommendations for the rest of our stay, most of which we were able to check out before we left for Tokyo. This was our first time in Japan, and everything can be rather intimidating. Ted made sure we felt at home and had a great time, both on the tour and in Kyoto more broadly. Arigato gozaimasu!

The Kyoto street food tour with Eiji-San was fantastic. My brother and I really enjoyed the eclectic mix of dishes and flavors that Eiji-San recommended while walking the Nishiki Food Market. He had a great understanding of not only the foods, but also of the quality of the venders. Eiji-San also guided us to a few interesting cultural heritage sites in and around Gion after we had eaten our way through Nishiki Food Market. I’d highly recommend this tour for anyone interested in learning more about the delicious tastes of Kyoto from a very knowledgeable guide.

Nishiki market from an insiders point of view was amazing - and Guia was an amazing hostess.
