Overview

Get a deeper experience of Kyoto food culture than would be possible on your own by joining this guided food tour. Stroll through the districts of Gion and Pontocho, stopping into small bars and restaurants to sample traditional drinks and food that have been carefully chosen to make up a full meal. The experience also includes the opportunity to try three different types of local sake too.

Amazing meal and very much engaged guide. He was also an incredible photographer! Usually the food tours have small bites and different locations. I loved this tour with a full multi course meal at one location and dessert at another. We still walked through streets and popular location to come back and explore.

Our guide, Yumi was friendly and well prepared with information about the Gion area. We went to 3 restaurants and sampled lots of different foods. It was a very enjoyable evening.

Gak is a very knowledgeable and amenable host who took us to three excellent venues in Pontocho and the surrounds. We got to sample some local Kyoto cuisine through omakase (leave it up to the chef, multiple courses) at the first restaurant, a sake tasting at a nearby bar then matcha based dessert around the corner. It was the best food tour I've done in Japan

I’m glad i signed up for this tour, so far this tour, I have to say have been the highlights of Kyoto, must ask for Kaz, superb in detailings our food & drinks. He took us to the hidden gems of Kyoto, that I would never have walked in.

Money would have been better spent at a nice restaurant. The waiter would be more food knowledgeable than the guide

We arrived in Kyoto mid day and wanted to have a fun event lined up for dinner as a family so booked this tour without knowing much about the city. The neighborhoods we visited were very lively and interesting which added to the experience. The food was also delicious but the best part of this tour was our guide, Mayu. She is such a kind, lovely young woman and was so gracious in answering questions and teaching us about the culture of Japan and Kyoto.

Wonderful small group experience deep into the back streets of Gion and Kyoto. Nice variety of food options and a few different venues. Enjoyed learning some of the historical aspects of the neighborhoods too on top of the food explanations. Wonderful!!

An enjoyable walk around city, but not necessarily a foodie tour

The guide was very personable and did his best, but I wouldn't say this is a foodie tour. He was a college student who didn't live in Kyoto and was assigned to do many different tours in various cities. We did enjoy learning more about Kyoto and Japanese culture, however. One note: multiple tours are booked at the same time, so if you want to be with another couple, etc. be sure to book together or to make a note. My husband and I booked separately as I wanted the vegetarian option, and they put us on separate tours at the same time! I was able to switch but only by giving up the vegetarian option (and thus not being able to eat several food items.) Overall, we enjoyed ourselves but it wasn't the culinary experience we were expecting.

A fun and well thought out experience

We had a great experience with Yumi! There were 3 stops and each of them was special in their own way. Along the way we got some history of the neighborhood and Yumi even included slide print outs so we could take pictures to remember what she was telling us. Would definitely do it again.

Great food choices and restaurants. Guide was a very kind, friendly loved chatting/practicing English. This company should invest in providing information of the food, areas chosen with historical information, culture and customs, etc. He was young, but their company should have provided the information and/or confirm his knowledge. We paid big bucks for someone taking us to restaurants with no explanation.
