What To Expect

Your helicopter tour begins at Kahului Heliport, where you buckle up inside an A-star helicopter with six forward-facing seats. Every passenger in these air-conditioned helicopters has 180-degree views, and the leather seats make a comfortable perch for exploring the island by air.

Upon lifting off from the heliport pad, hear your pilot begin narrating the flight, and minutes later, soar above waterfalls as you approach the East Maui rain forest. Whir high above valleys and hidden pools that are only accessible by air, and get a sense for how much of the island is completely undeveloped.

After flying above bays off the Hana coastline and watching waterfalls spill towards the sea, gradually climb high up the eastern flank of Haleakala volcano. With a summit of just over 10,000 feet, this mountain is one of the world’s largest and tallest dormant volcanoes, and the colorful landscape of cinder cones and trails is stunning when viewed from the air.

Once back on the ground at Kahului heliport, you can buy a USB containing footage of the flight for a separate, additional charge, which is backed by tropical Hawaiian music and narration from onboard the trip.

  • Most travelers can participate
  • Weight Restrictions: Due to FAA regulations, all passengers must be weighed at check-in. For each single passenger weighing 240 pounds or more, combined weights of 420 lbs per couple, or for groups of 3 or more an average weight of 200lbs or more additional seat must be purchased at time of booking. This is for the safety and comfort of all passengers. It is important to provide accurate body weight at checkout.
  • It is recommended that all passengers wear dark clothing to help have less reflection in the windows when flying and therefore you can get better photos during your tour
  • All passenger weights MUST be advised at time of booking. Under representation of body weight may result in cancellation at check-in with no refund.
  • Flight routes & sights may vary due to weather.
  • Infants under 24 months must sit on an adult lap. PLEASE CONTACT AIR MAUI IF BRINGING AN INFANT. Over 24 months must occupy their own paid seat. We follow the same FAA regulations as the airlines.
  • Please contact Air Maui directly for your check in and departure time at least 72 hours prior to your flight!
  • Not wheelchair accessible. There is no wheelchair lift to accommodate wheelchair passengers nor can the staff personally/physically assist people into the helicopter
  • Helicopter is a shared cabin of 6 passengers and one pilot on each tour.
  • No bags allowed on board. This includes purses, fanny packs, backpacks, etc.
  • This tour/activity will have a maximum of 6 travelers

You can cancel up to 24 hours in advance of the experience for a full refund.

  • For a full refund, you must cancel at least 24 hours before the experience’s start time.
  • If you cancel less than 24 hours before the experience’s start time, the amount you paid will not be refunded.
  • Any changes made less than 24 hours before the experience’s start time will not be accepted.
  • Cut-off times are based on the experience’s local time.
  • This experience requires good weather. If it’s canceled due to poor weather, you’ll be offered a different date or a full refund.
  • This experience requires a minimum number of travelers. If it’s canceled because the minimum isn’t met, you’ll be offered a different date/experience or a full refund.

The number one reason for doing this helitour was to create a life experience for and with our family, especially our grandson. Based on the feedback after the event, mission accomplished. A welcome bonus was hearing insight into what we were seeing. The pilot was knowledgeable, professional and frequently checked his passengers for how they were doing. The aircraft was clean and mechanically sound. We would do it again. As an aside, due to the somewhat close quarters seating, we would not be interested in a shared ride. Buying empty seats is worth every penny.

Wow! This copter ride was amazing! The back side of Haleakala has so many waterfalls, canyons, and old cinder cones, it is really otherworldly. And the pilot was fun and friendly, and very professional. We would recommend this experience to anyone!

We were disappointed that our scheduled flight got switched when we arrived at the terminal. We were scheduled to do the crater tour, but were told that it was too cloudy and instead were offered the Moloki tour. It became apparent that the reason we got switched had nothing to do with clouds, but instead there was another couple scheduled for the Moloki tour at the same time as OUR crater tour, so the operator simply wanted all of us on one trip to save THEM costs, etc.....very disappointing.

Pilot was awesome. Very friendly and knowledgeable. We had the clearest day imaginable, and I’m sure that made a difference. The ride was short (45 min) but didn’t really feel that way - we saw a lot! Loved this perspective of the island - it’s much bigger than we thought.

Wow … just wow! Our helicopter adventure with Air Maui was the highlight of our vacation. Our pilot - Vince - was terrific. He was knowledgeable, fun & had an awesome playlist to accompany the stunning visual tour. Our initial itinerary had to change to accommodate some poor weather around Haleakala, but the wonderful staff at Air Maui explained the situation and provided us with an alternative itinerary or the option of rescheduling. The new itinerary included the most amazing tour of Molokai - the ocean cliffs are a must see, for sure. I highly recommend Air Maui!

This was our first copter tour and it was perfect. Very smooth ride and our pilot, Drew, was very personable. He made sure every passenger could see the sites we flew over no matter which side of the aircraft you sat on. This tour gets you to half of the island and for a while you are over the water along the coast. Best of both worlds. You will see things below you can’t see by car or a hike. The only way to fly as a tourist. Worth every penny.

We had a blast! Our pilot, Captain Kirk was entertaining and informative. We weren’t able to tour Haleakala crater due to rough weather. But we were offered the chance to tour Molokai island and it’s stunning sea cliffs and valleys. The waterfalls and lush vegetation were truly awe inspiring. Kirk hovered the chopper close to the cliffs and we saw everything so close it felt like you could reach out and touch. This was our first helicopter rebut it won’t be our last as we are determined to do this again as soon as possible.

Fun time! Pilot very knowledgeable about the island. Lots of beautiful scenery 😍 They take pictures before you leave, that you can buy. You can also purchase the video of the entire trip, which includes pilot’s story on it. Way better views from the air and there are many waterfalls along the coast that can be seen, not sure how you’d see them in a car.

We took a doors on 8am tour. It was fantastic! Our pilot, Kirk, was very knowledgeable and super personable. The views from the helicopter were unbelievable. We got so many amazing pictures on our flight. I would definitely recommend this excursion to anyone looking to see the sights of Maui from above.

Our first time in a helicopter and seeing the nature of Maui and Molokai was phenomenal beyond belief. The pilot, Cameron, was excellent , courteous and fun to listen to. We had a problem getting an Uber to our ship and they went the extra mile to see a reliable cab was called. Air Maui is a class act!!
