Heart warming adventure
janelle_f, Mar 2024
Ishmail was a kind hearted and knowledgeable guide. He was eloquent, as well as interesting. He answered every question of the guests. He engaged the quieter guests. The walk is long and it can have some need for agility and physicality. It is an adventure that makes you know you could not do this on your own!!! The residents were so welcoming. I was very happy to learn about life in Kibera and see the team efforts in ongoing improvement.

Remarkable!
EarnestJ_J, Mar 2024
Fantastic tour, experiencing the heart of Kibera with Kevin and Ishmael who were such warm, friendly and hospitable guides. We visited their homes, a local school/ orphanage, a cow bone jewelry making factory and was even given an excellent Kenyan restaurant recommendation which was very much appreciated. Do yourself a favor and book a tour with this company. It will be a memorable experience for certain!

compelling, hopeful, frustrating
DIANNE_F, Jan 2024
Anyone traveling to Nairobi must take a tour of the Kibera Slum. The guide grew up in the slum, and still lives there (Ismael.). The walk through is very safe as everyone knows the guide and trusts him. What stuck me most -- the children are running through the dilapidated neighborhood where they can easily fall through holes in sidewalks and but themselves on broken metal roofs and other dangers -- but they smile and enjoy themselves. Also Ismael showed us a school created for orphans, and the cave-like dwellings where the orphans reside. There are kind-hearted people running "pop up" schools with little or no funding -- focusing on raising funds to get the brightest kids out of the slums and into boarding schools. You will feel some hope after the visit, but you'll also wonder why the Kenyan Government can't at least provide clean water, toilets and showers to more people. It is quite frustrating.

Kibera - a thriving community
Penny_S, Aug 2023
Kevin is a great tour guide - he speaks from personal experience growing up in Kibera and being an active part of the community. I recommend to wear shoes with good non slip soles - if it’s wet out - the alleys can be very slippery and muddy.

Insightful Tour
Allyn_G, Jul 2023
Kevin is very successful businessman operating his tour in his home area of Kibera. It was not a private tour as described, grouping us with two others. Kevin said it was done because the other party booked the correct date, but wrong month. Anyway it was okay. Vehicle had one inoperable seat belt. His brother Ishmael who operates his own tour company accompanied us and stayed with my wife in the vehicle mid tour as she couldn’t walk anymore due to a weak knee. That was a nice option and much appreciated. Very little walking on the flat streets. Mostly steep up and downhill back alley corridors that wind throughout the slum. Surfaces very uneven, dirt, rock, mud, wood boards can be expected. Throw your shoes away afterwards as the ground is soaked with sewage waste, garbage and unknown debris. The smell and odor of sewage was noted in most of the areas. I would not recommend the tour if you are immune compromised, or have respiratory issues due to these issues. Visit to the school and Kevin’s parents home was the highlight of the tour. The bone factory was okay. Be prepared to donate to the school and buy something at the bone factory. We did both.

Truly an amazing experience
Rynette_A, Jul 2023
Kevin gave us an absolutely wonderful experience. He will undoubtedly change your idea of what a slum is, and make you think differently about the people who live there. We felt safe as we navigated this tapestry of wood, zinc, cement and mud, following instructions as we watched where we stepped, and lower our heads. We met many warm and friendly people on the way as they went about their daily life, washing clothes, tending their animals, selling fruits and vegetables and snacks. Life in the slum is cramped, the people there are poor, youths turn to crime because opportunities are lacking. Kevin does not sugar coat the truth, rather, he shows and explains the realities of slum life. But also the beauty of it. He will take you to the school he attended as a kid, where he taught as a teacher, and where he now works hard to give back to, to ensure the educational development of the children of Kibera. He is a wonderful soul. One of the best parts of the tour, besides signing in the classroom with the kids, is sitting in his parents tiny home, listening to stories of the culture and social life of the slum. It was truly unforgettable. Kevin’s tour not just shows you the physical, he will teach you the social and historical foundations of Kibera as well. I rate him 6/5.

The best, Kibera Slum Tours
Dann_L, Jul 2023
You must go on this tour. Kevin lives in the Kibera slums, his family lives there, and he takes you into their life very personally. He is also doing amazing charity work within the community changing lives. No other Kibera Slum Tours could compare to this. Thank you so much Kevin.

Eye-opening insight into life in Kibera
Jason_F, Mar 2023
Our tour with Kevin, a local who grew up and still lives in Kibera, was an eye-opening view into the life’s of the residents of Kibera. We felt it was of particular importance to our 14 year old daughter to see that people’s lives are often quite different outside of her ‘bubble.’

Truly Educational
David_P, Aug 2021
Kibera is not for the faint of heart; it’s an overcrowded district where some of the poorest people in Kenya struggle to make life work for them. Kevin makes it all come alive for you, giving you a sense of the challenges and possibilities for its residents; he’s a generous and thoughtful host. Truly eye opening and well worth the time. As a note, wear shoes that you can afford to get dirty as this is a tour that’s heavy on the walking.
