What To Expect

Begin your educational tour with convenient pickup at your Rio hotel. You can choose between morning and afternoon tour times when booking. Meet your guide and group and climb into your comfortable tour vehicle, then watch the urban scenery as you travel directly to the Rocinha Favela. During your time there, keep in mind that your aim as an observer is to be respectful and non-intrusive while learning about the community and interacting with its members. 

Through your guide's enlightening commentary, learn about the history of the favela and what role it plays in the city at large. Hear a bit about the economic and social challenges facing residents while visiting local landmarks such as Voar Pipa, Mercado popular, the commercial center on Via Apia, the samba school Academicos da Rocinha, the Escola Umuarama, and others. 

After the tour has concluded, feel free to hang out and enjoy the sunset or catch your ride home.
