Prior to the 19th century, Rio de Janeiro was surrounded by Atlantic rain forest. Today, all that remains is the 13-square-mile (33-square-kilometer) jungle known as Tijuca National Park (Parque Nacional da Tijuca). Studded with tropical trees knotted together by jungle vines, the world’s largest urban forest is home to ocelots, howler monkeys, more than 300 bird species, waterfalls, and one of Rio’s iconic landmarks, the Christ the Redeemer (Cristo Redentor) statue standing atop Corcovado Mountain.

Seriously a must do in...
Seriously a must do in Rio de Janeiro every minute was memorable because our guide Alex-Trips in Rio was exceptional. He took great care of us and told us so much about the area and all it’s inhabitants. I think my photos speak volumes as we’re still lost for words to describe this magical experience

Not for wimps
The hike was truly challenging but doable for us. We are 67 years old and found the lengthy hike, well, strenuous and we are pretty fit. Wear wool socks and really good shoes. Lots of climbing but we loved it. Our guide Sergio was informative and comical and shared many interesting facts. Our calves are sore today but it was well worth it.

Highlight of my stay in Rio!
This hike was most definitely the highlight of my stay in Rio! I attended as a solo traveller and it was such a welcoming atmosphere. Small group with an individualized approach from our guide Thomas. Thomas was super kind, welcoming, knowledgable, and funny. We got to spend sometime in one of the waterfalls for a super refreshing dip, and also got to see some hardcore rock climbers. And as a cherry on top of an already wonderful experience, we saw a monkey!! CUTE!!!! And Thomas personalizes the hike based on the needs and abilities of each group! I, for sure, recommend this hike!!

Tijuca peak conquered by 2 Aussies
What an awesome way to spend our last day in Rio.Our guide Daniel from Rio Natural was on time and did an incredible job making sure we safely made our way along the jungle trail to reach the final push up the rock face to finally arrive at the magnificent views that greeted us at the summit Pica de Tijuca.Absolutely Breathtaking 🤩Daniel gave us plenty of time to take in the views and take plenty of photos etc.before the descent Along the way we stopped at several viewing points with Daniel explaining much about the history fauna and flora of this extraordinarily precious and beautiful National Park.So very grateful to Daniel for making our visit so special ps thanks Daniel for these photos 💖🤩
