What To Expect

After pickup from your hotel or meeting point, your Rome to Capri day trip starts with the drive south to Naples, capital of Italy’s Campania region. Along the way, admire the landscape of Castelli Romani (Roman Castles) and sights like the Abbey of Montecassino, a hilltop Benedictine monastery.

When you arrive at the port of Naples, board a hydrofoil boat or catamaran for the ride across the Tyrrhenian Sea to Capri, a fashionable island that sits just off Italy’s famed Amalfi Coast. Pull into Marina Grande, where you can transfer over to a rowboat for a guided journey along the shoreline to see the fascinating Blue Grotto, Capri’s most famous natural sight (entry at your own expense). The grotto’s enchanting blue color comes from rays that enter from under the water and a small beam of light from the cave’s only entrance.

Back on the island, down the hill to the town of Capri, the island’s main settlement, where you can walk around on your own. Go shopping for souvenirs or check out sights like Piazza Umberto before it's time to catch the boat back to Naples, where you’ll re-board the coach for the return drive to Rome.

As you leave Naples, catch sight of landmarks like Castel Nuovo, Certona di San Martino, and Palazzo Reale. Then relax on the journey back to Rome, where your day trip ends at a drop-off point near Termini Station or one of the following locations, if you prefer: Via Veneto, Piazza Barberini, Piazza Venezia or Piazza della Repubblica (just let your guide know).

Please note: In rare cases of very bad weather, boats to Capri are canceled; if this happens, you’ll spend the day exploring Naples and the ancient ruins of Pompeii, a World Heritage Site, with your guide. No refund will be due.

The title says it all, Capri is beautiful. The tour was relaxing and leisurely tour. The guide was helpful and had a lot of good suggestions. I definitely see myself returning to Capri for a longer visit

Fabulous day in Capri!!
Karina_R, Sep 2023
What a fun day!! The weather was beautiful and the guides were great!! We would love to spend more time on Capri. Our guide offered us the option of a boat tour around the island, which is a must do!! Excellent tour!!
Wonder island of Capri
Ken_T, Sep 2023
I had a an amazing experience in Capri. The lunch was delicious and the service was great. I took the tram to the restaurant and the view was amazing from higher up. The boat takes 1 hour from Naples to reach Capri and is very relaxing. The water color was like nothing I have seen before from dark blue to aqua blue. I took the boat criuse around the island and had a blast. This was a great tour on my last full day in Italy.
Beautiful Island, Disappointing Tour
Stacy_H, Aug 2023
I was able to take some beautiful pics on Capri. The ocean and scenery are gorgeous! I would go again, but not with this tour. Average is a good way to describe it. We did one to Tuscany the day before with a different tour company and it knocked our socks off! So we had a good comparison. Bus tour guide - friendly but didn’t share much knowledge about the area. Island tour guide - he did make sure we were together and no one was missing, but other than that, “0”. Lunch - below par. Everyone at our table was dissatisfied. There seemed to be many different places to eat there, this one was not worth it. The service was 1 ⭐️, and the food was 2 ⭐️. We took a boat around the island which was good and saw the beautiful grottos. But we were not told in advance we would not be able to go through the blue grotto. Not enough time. The island was beautiful. The tour was disappointing.
Probably not the move

I was not the most pleased with this tour… the guides were excellent but it was such a long day of travel for like a hot minute in Capri. When we got to Naples, we were passed off to Valentina who was just the sweetest and so helpful.. but then there was another 50 minute ride on a ferry to Capri. When we got to Capri, Valentina ushered us to the Funicula (spelling?) to go up to a high end shopping area. When we were in line, we asked when we’d be able to go to the Blue Grotto and we’re promptly told it was “impossible” in the amount of time we had??? We were perfectly on time so that was super frustrating. It was honestly the only reason we had picked this tour over going to Pompeii. But if we hadn’t asked we wouldn’t have even known that the Blue Grotto was off the table.. we would have just kept waiting for that part of the tour. So anyways we get to the shopping area which was nothing special and not what we would have chosen to do. We then followed Valentina into like the middle of nowhere for a pretty gross lunch. We ended up bailing at that point and went back down to find a reasonable shopping area, better food, and a beach. I really wish there just would have been more communication about our options once we got there. Another person on our tour had bailed as soon as we got to Capri and just booked a private tour and did her own thing for lunch and I wish we would have done the same. Also - don’t bring kids on this trip! It is SUCH A LONG DAY. Like literally 8-9 hours on a bus/ferry for 3 hours on Capri. A family was with us and while their kids were great on the way there, the same cannot be said about the way back and I honestly couldn’t even blame the kids for being OVER IT. But it still was not ideal to have kids screaming and kicking my seat and running up and down the bus isle the whole ride back. Do yourself and your kids a favor and don’t put them on an 8 hour bus day haha
Capri is stunning- so glad we went
Jennifer_D, Jul 2023
When we arrived on Capri, we chose to take a boat ride around the island. It was stunning and gave a great perspective. This was not part of the tour and something we chose to do when we got there. Loved it! We did lunch on our own. Skipped going inside the blue grotto because lines were too long and the boat ride around the island showed us more.

Dear Kind customer Thank you for your enthusiastic review! , Good choice to take a boat ride around the island! Thank you again! pina
Not worth it!
Katie_C, Jul 2023
There was no guided tour, so don’t expect that if you sign up for this. Once you get to Capri they give you options to do different things, and all are a separate cost. Didn’t have lunch until after 2pm and pretty much you can just walk around on your own. Not worth the 8 hours of travel for the day. Disappointed and this should be advertised differently.
Response from Host, Jul 2023
Good morning kind customer -the excursion in the web indicates : - lunch is included -Blue grotto , is an optional tour , to pay on the spot. the information are clear. Thank you Kind regards Pina
amazing

absolutely amazing, more than what we were expecting. places they took us we didn't expect to do as much as we did
Good experience overall
Rodney_L, May 2023
Cristina is an amazing guide. She made our trip much better than it was. Very knowledgeable of the Roman and Italian history, she pointed at every landmark taking us on a trip to the past. She is also friendly and approachable. Our Capri guide, Pino is a bit quiet but very efficient and has a charming dry sense of humor. He took very good care of the group, including a drunk lady that was part of it. The meal, though was bad. As simple as that. It was a restaurant called LA PIGNA. Rice was half cooked, cold and the so called “calamari” were like the hairs on the calamari leg. The pork looked pale and it was like an unappealing thin brown leaf. Everything - pasta included was tasteless and it seemed that all the meal was cooked many hours before served. We were rushed and pushed to finish quickly. I think the agency should seriously consider to change their lunch provider or risk to lose business because of the poor quality and lacking service of that place. The island is beautiful. I recommend to take the boat ride around it. It has amazing views!!

Capri is a must see island! The ride to the island was very choppy but worth it. You get very nice views, when we went it was raining but still worth it

Capri tour
Sharmeen_Z, Feb 2020
Lovely trip. If you want to see the Blue Grotto I suggest you visit the island by yourself and reach the island at the crack of dawn . We M Missed out on the blue grotto due to the high tide. We instead settled for a trip around the island and that was spectacular and so was the chairlift . The lunch however wasn’t that great. Over all a great experience

The Capri guide Pino was unpolite calling out “Indian Time” for being delayed by 8 mins. And was rushing us through the tour. Apart from him the other guide Silvia was excellent and very kind.
Day at Capri

Capri day
David_A, Dec 2019
We had a good trip from Rome to Capri. Once there, the guide seemed too busy with other tour groups to the point that before the time for lunch we had to wait for him for almost an hour. When he came and we went for lunch he said there had been a delay in the boat arrival and he had to wait for the incoming group. There was nobody else to cover for him,.
Exelent
oifaedu, Nov 2019
The lunch was exelent but the lemonchelo is very strong. Other than that food was amazing. Super organized spanish speaking local guides.
Capri in a Day
Barbara S, Nov 2019
My grandaughter wanted to see Capri during our short stay in Rome so I chose the day trip option. Although Capri is certainly worth the visit, it is a long day! Travelers who chose this option should keep in mind traffic can cause delays. Our guides did their best to pick up the time snd keep us on schedule. Also, although I selected a tour in English, our bus also had travelers who spoke Spanish and Japanese. Travelers considering this tour should be aware of this. Our Capri guide Pino was very good at gathering strays and keeping us on schedule.
Review of Capri Day trip
Nancy_W, Oct 2019
Overall, the organization of this trip was poor: the Rome guide did not seem to have a clue as to what would be happening in Capri (he misinformed us of what would occur and when, he took us to the wrong boat slip for the ferry, and appeared to lack adequate organization with the local guide. There were not enough buses to take us up into Capri, so we were boarded into one full bus, then moved to another. The local guide seemed to have other plans for the day, but divided his “tour” between the two buses- who knows what kind of tour we should have had. Food for lunch was mediocre. Blue Grotto (add on) was pretty, but pricey for the 4-5 minutes we got in the cave. Rest stop on the way home must have had at least five other buses there with ours so it was jammed shoulder-to-shoulder people and no way to be back at bus in 20-25 minutes.
Paradise!!!

The Whole Island had me Memorized😍😍😍 This Tour Is A Must !!! The Guides Were Outstanding!!! Lunch was Delicious!
Amazing tour
BORISEVICH_O, Oct 2019
I did the tour on October 5. It was just amazing. The tour, the weather, the landscape- everything was perfect. I am surprised the tour has so many negative feedbacks and find it unfair, it doesn’t deserve it, so here is my detailed review. It’s true that the way is quite long (3 hours by bus and 30-40 mins by ferry) but the team did anything possible to make it comfortable and pleasant for us . And the incredible landscape of gorgeous Capri is definitely worth it. We couldn’t see the Blue Grotto due to the sea condition but had a great boat tour around the island instead. Highly recommend to take a chairlift which will make you fly over the island enjoying a breathtaking view. We were given enough of free time, interesting information about the region. The food was good too, well organized and fast, attentive service. I don’t think that the drinks price can be an issue (like other visitors wrote before), it’s just like anywhere else in Italy, more or less. Drop off was well organized too, as much as it’s possible in the Rome traffic. Everyone- the drivers, the tour leader, the guide on the island, the restaurant stuff- were professional, friendly, attentive and helpful. This trip was the pearl of my Italian trip, thanks to Greenline team and their partners!
Do it on your own time
Ashley_G, Oct 2019
It was a long 3 hour bus ride one way, and when we got there it showed that we had received the boat ride to Blue Grotto; witch ended up being another $18 per person and that wasn't even going in it. Witch we didn't do because the water was so choppy we didn't want to get seasick. Then the lunch wasn't that great, and you had to pay for drinks, they never offered water so that you would have to pay. But I will say the sincere view was absolutely gorgeous.
Extremely rude guide
Freedom11837800467, Oct 2019
The Greenline guide that met us in Naples, after the bus trip from Rome, was extremely rude and abrupt. He didn't even bother to introduce himself to us, and got very irritated when we dared to ask questions regarding the itinerary for the day. Eventually the day ended in disaster. In Capri, while standing in the town, he told us and another 5 people of the group, to go and get on one of the ferries going to Naples. As there were several ferries, we didn't know which ferry he referred to. We clearly told him that we do not know which ferry he is referring to by merely pointing with his finger. He started to shout at us to "just go". We tried to work it out between the seven of us, but in the chaos of the boarding of the ferries, we boarded the wrong ferry. The guide and the rest of the group boarded another ferry. We only realised this when it was too late - so many people and total chaos on the ferries. Really scary and traumatic because we didn't know whether anyone will be waiting for us in Naples. And it was getting dark. Eventually we did meet up with him and the other tour guide, but there was no apology from him. I have travelled a lot and been on many trips with guides, yet I have never experienced the level of absolute rudeness and "I don't give a damn about the tourists" attitude of this man. He is definitely not fit to be a guide as he has no respect at all for tourists and doesn't do his job with the necessary responsibility. He should be sacked.
