What To Expect

Great time on this excursion! The guides Mark and Eduardo were engaged and enthusiastic as they shared Spanish history and fun facts throughout our journey. Montserrat is beautiful. Have day your was perfect amount of time needed

Beautiful setting, but lots of steps!

The setting is beautiful, being perched in the mountains. Our guides were fun and knowledgeable. My only issues were the pickup location was a little sketch early in the morning and there was no signage. Other people were wandering around asking strangers where they were supposed to meet. Also, my wife has mobility issues which our guide said was no problem. Afterwards it was obvious there were other walking routes which would have been easier for her (ramps, not steps) that we could have taken had he made us aware. But the monastery and church were beautiful as was the black Madonna. Although I felt we were pushed through the process to trek by the Madonna with no time to take pictures. It's definitely worth taking the funicular up to the top of the mountain - beautiful views looking down at the monastery and valley beyond.

Great experience. Adrianna was an excellent guide, and she had so much knowledge to share. The tour experience was seamless, and the instructions on where to meet the guides were clear. The monastery was incredible. It's worth the trip from Barcelona. Awe inspiring.

We traveled with another couple and we all agreed that this was the best tour we have taken. We had several other tours that were excellent, but this one was well run, easy to understand, full of history and interesting information. Mito and Philippi were our guides and their enthusiasm for sharing a wealth of information made this trip one of the best we had on this trip to Barcelona. They were on time, explicit with instructions and easy to understand. They gave plenty of time to wander on our own and gave us several idea's about what might interest us.

The tour guide was nice and knowledgeable. Though I could not figure out where to meet and later realized it was near all the buses. Montserrat you go by bus+ train while going up and by bus only while going down. You visit black madonna in huge line and after that you have choice of taking hike or take 40 minute cable car for around 20 euro. Most folks chose the hike to go near the cross as it gives front view of mountain. There is a museum, but you can't do that.

Although I have taken many tours over the years, our tour guide Miro (Valdemiro Ghibellini Vidal) was the best I’ve ever experienced. My friend and I now walk with canes, and Miro was particularly responsive to our needs. His English was exceptional, and his stories were entertaining and informative. On a cold, damp day, Miro saw to it that we were allowed to enter the basilica early for the performance of the Montserrat Boys’ Choir and stayed with us after our return to Barcelona to make sure that we were in a taxi headed for our hotel.. Thank you Viator for this wonderful trip.

the view from Sant Miguel were worth the walk, Loved our tour by Marc and Felipe that were filled with so many interesting facts. They knew their stuff and made it interesting. We were so glad they waited for us, as the bus was pulling away, we were waiting at the wrong spot under the Arc, and we were early, but could not see the red umbrellas from where we were waiting. Glad we made it!!!

Edu was a great guide for Montserrat and the Black Madonna chapel. Not only did he provide great historical information including the spiritual aspect of the mountain, but he also made sure everyone had a good plan for the hour+ of free time. I could tell he has spend a good deal of personal time on the mountain and thought it was a special place.

Great experience with nice tour guide and amazing views. The best part is that we can touch the black Modena’s hemisphere and be blessed with the same local culture and traditions. The short hike to see the panoramic view is also stunning. Highly recommend the tour if you are in Barcelona.

Def worth booking this trip although be mindful of the directions of the meetup spot. It is across the street near the empty field. Brian was a fantastic guide and the trip to Montserrat was a MUST.

The experience was not bad, it was not great. It is a beautiful area and the guides are knowledgeable. The most unfortunate part is you are not given any time to REALLY see and experience the Black Madonna. You are rushed through like a tourist assembly line, instead of having a few moments to really appreciate her and what she represents. They let you take a picture and then out you go. Maybe going on your own so you can go through the line a couple of times or finding the least busiest time, so you can take your time.

This is a must do tour if you are short on time with the half day tour. All the guides were extremely knowledgeable and worked as a team. If you are not interested in seeing the Black Madonna, I would recommend to travel up the funicula as there's not enough time if the are long queues waiting to do both.
