What To Expect

Nice little tour, the guides made it fun and informative for all. The tour itinery in the description is what you get. You will learn some Mexican history and get to do some shopping as well as take a photo at the famous Cancun sign.

Shuttle showed up 45 minutes late to our pickup location. Never called to inform us that they were going to be late and I had to contact Viator to get a hold of the company, because they wouldn’t respond to my messages or calls. Tony was great, but the tour itself was not worth the money. You stop at two souvenir stores that are overpriced even when trying to bargain with them. Caught the second store trying to overcharge us for items which I’m glad I caught and was paying attention.

The booking process and pickup was timely as you would expect. For the first 45 minutes they took us around downtown and other less visited parts of Cancun telling us about the history and showed us a few interesting paintings/murals. Then they took us to a mini mart with a large souvenir shop, a silver jewelry shop and a few other shops. They said we will be there for 50 minutes. The stores were a significantly overpriced tourist trap - and almost everyone was done in 10-15 mins -and then trying to kill time for the next 35-40 mins. By the time we loaded the bus and left it was over an hour. Then we took off for another tourist trap souvenir shop. The ride to the store was about 45 mins and the route to that store dictated what we saw as part of the continuing 'city tour'. Shortly after we left, the tour guides microphone died and there was no commentary after that. We were dropped at the second tourist trap where there was tequila tasting. Basically, we had a very uninterested store employee pour us some tequila in 3 tiny cups, was quite condescending when we asked questions. He then walked away - overall the tequila tasting was a complete joke and was over in about 5 mins. We then had to kill another 45 mins until the bus was ready to depart. We were then taken through the hotel zone and dropped back at our hotels. We basically took the tour so they can take us to two tourist traps (more than 70% of the tour) and drop us back. A complete waste of an afternoon in our precious vacation. Skip this tour as there are many other interesting things to do in Cancun.

The guides helped make this a three star review, otherwise it would be a two. Transportation was comfortable and clean. There were two shopping stops. The first stop, workers followed you around and bothered you the entire time. The second one was the tequila tasting, and what was written in the description as a tequila museum. Was not shown anything that resembled a museum, but was given a couple tastings. They were good. The chocolate tasting was a piece about the size of an American chocolate chip wrapped in plastic wrap. We passed several open air shopping areas that looked much better than where we stopped. The site seeing was fairly interesting, but not much of it. Excursion lasted about 4 hours and much of that was picking up people. Not an excursion I would recommend.

The only Red Flag for me is being taken to a store for some shopping where people follow up everywhere you go. They need to find local stores where people don't make us feel like we're stealing.

The sightseeing tour was fantastic. Tony the compare and tour guide was very informative. Thoroughly enjoyed the tour around Cancun. His driver was a lovely guy and he gave you a handmade necklace when you entered the bus. Complimentary drinks included in the price. Stopped off to get souvenirs. Beware they take you straight into a jewellery shop and staff just pounced on you! You don't get a chance to look around to see what is there. Be firm, say no as daylight robbery. Try to sell you the earth and it's cheap tat. Stone already out of my ring. Dont be stung like we were!! Was looking forward to tequila tasting. Guy served us three tequilas didn't explain what they were. Left and served people buying gifts. Poor show lost out on a sale. Better info on a tequila bottle!

A Positive New Perspective!

My wife and I have flown in to the Cancun airport a couple of times and then took a transfer to the Akumal area. We were told not to spend any time in Cancun for a number of reasons. So, that peaked my curiosity, and I had to see Cancun firsthand to make a decision for myself. As expected, I went online to see what city tours were available. Through Viator, I came across Cancun City Sightseeing and Shopping Tour On a Double Decker Bus. This tour was offered through Xightseeing Xcursions. My wife and I were staying near the airport and for a reasonable charge, this company was willing to pick us up. As we gathered other tourist, we ended up having a small but fun group. We were fortunate to have two excellent tour guides, Tony & Arturo! Both guides were very personable as well as knowledgeable of the area and it's history. The bus driver was amazing. I couldn't believe how well he maneuvered in & out of tight spots! The tour took us to the different neighborhoods of Cancun. It also stopped at two locations for Mexican handicrafts shopping. Having been to several locations in Mexico, I could have done without this part of the tour. Although. The second store offered a Tequila & Mezcal tasting. Arturo provided interesting information about these two beverages. There were times where we had to wait in traffic or for other reasons. But that was okay for my wife and I. We had nothing else planned for the day, and it gave us the opportunity to soak in Cancun. Overall, we had a very positive experience! It definitely changed our perspective of Cancun in a good way. Hopefully someday we can return for a stay in this city.

Had a great time with Gee and his sidekick Alex we had plenty of time to shop make sure you don’t spend to much at first stop they are a little aggressive for commission but he’ll say no or I tell you what I want and when I’m ready period! the second stop had more deals and was way more laidback overall great time out!!

This was a nicely paced tour. Beware of the Plaza 28 jewelry store. I got scammed real bad lol. They are very aggressive and see $$ when you walk in. The bus was a lot of fun!
