What To Expect

Your tour begins with pickup from your central Krakow hotel. Traveling by air-conditioned Mercedes Benz vehicle, set out on the short journey to the Wieliczka Salt Mine.

On arrival, your guide is waiting to whisk you on a walking tour of the magnificent mines. Venture underground, where the vast complex of caverns, tunnels, and chambers are all completely carved from salt—a dazzling sight. Along the way, visit the Kinga’s Chapel, where even the chandeliers are carved from salt crystals; pause to admire dramatic salt sculptures; and pose for photos by the underground lake.

After you explore the mines, head back to Krakow, where your tour ends with drop-off at your hotel.

  • Not wheelchair accessible
  • A moderate amount of walking is involved. The route includes over 800 stairs.
  • Not recommended for participants who become easily claustrophobic. There are some very narrow paths inside the salt mine and this may be difficult for some. Once you have begun the tour there is no possibility to shorten your visit or turn back.
  • Hand luggage should be of a reasonable size, and larger luggage should be left in the car.
  • There is no minimum age to experience the activity, however, children should be capable of walking unassisted or be carried in baby slings or baby carriers. Baby strollers are not allowed underground.
  • Temperatures in Wieliczka Salt Mine are around 15ºC or 59ºF, it is recommended that you bring a jacket
  • Infant seats available
  • Not recommended for travelers with back problems
  • Not recommended for pregnant travelers
  • No heart problems or other serious medical conditions
  • Travelers should have a moderate physical fitness level

Interesting day, excellent value

A very interesting experience. Be prepared for a fair bit of walking, but virtually all is downhill. You take an elevator down, then a descending walk through wide, well-lit tunnel and various chambers, and eventually an elevator up. FYI, you emerge from the mine quite some distance from where you enter, so pay attention to instructions about how to get back to the parking lot where you ride is waiting.

Impressive how the mines was maintained. It was also interesting to hear the history. A lot of walking down stairs, so participants need to be fit. A couple of participants in our group struggeled, but were well taken care of.

Man who picked us up very nice and was a great driver picking us up and dropping us at hotel door.guide at salt mine was very knowledgeable and told us everything we needed to know.salt mines are a must couldn't believe how well done it is with cafe toilets ect .

The salt chandeliers were amazing!!! It a very good tour with a knowledgeable tour guide called Justin. The only thing i can complain about it took a long time to queue to get out of the shafts in the lift. But on the whole worth the money and the experience.

We had a great tour of the Salt mines. An amazing place to visit. I was really relieved that our booking went ahead from Viator as we had booked another tour to Auschwitz that was cancelled very late which didn't allow us to get tickets with anyone else. Very disappointed and wouldn't recommend or use again.

First class tour, a lot of stairs going down but they are relatively easy although do get a little dizzy but worth every step to see the Church - i’m not religious but it is stunning, the lift back up is interesting to say the least!

This tour was great! A larger shuttle picked us up from the hotel - we had a smaller van for a completely different tour the day prior. Our driver Lukasz introduced himself and explained what we could expect from the morning. Once we got to the Salt Mine, he was able to get us in earlier to be the first group on property! This was a real treat. Overall, the tour was well-timed and met our expectations.

Lots of steps but beautiful mines

The driver was great in an air con mini bus. The rep was very knowledgeable. This trip involved alot of walking and over 800 sets, some uneven. Great for a religious person as lots of engraved pictures from the bible. The only negative was the lift which fitted 6 grown adults and was such a squeeze we had to take out bags off and we were all squashed touching each other. Maybe a pre warning. Apart from that it was a very informative trip and very beautiful creations. I possibly would have brought something in the gift shop had we had more of a breather
