Unreliable dishonest

The tour agency did not show up and cancelled the tour last minute, I was not notified until I asked the hotel to call again. They just asked me to take the bus with printed tickets instead of a group shuttle/bus to those places. No show, crooked.

Dear Mrs Lee , Thanks for your feedback, however it is was not like you described and you know that . You received both priority entrance tickets and indication for precise meeting point for shuttle service thorugh the reception of your hotel,you didn't join the trip and neither participate on the later departure as was offered once you have missed the first departure. Staff of the reception of your hotel assisted to all our availability to provide you next departure without problems ,but seems like you expected private service ,meanwhile service you have booked was shared trip on your own with priority admission tickets . We don't think ,this was unreliable and dishonest from our part as we told you at the moment of your booking ,this is not a guided tour. Regards, Napoli Official Tour staff

Disappointing start

The meeting arrangements were poor, it is a rough area and we had problems being harrased by vagrants, which made for an unpleasant start to the day not what we paid £200 for.

Vesuvius is amazing a testy climb but we'll worth it and Herculaneum was also amazing. It was a self guided trip and allowed you to see at own pace.

The tour operator cancelled our trip just 12 hours before it was due to begin, and wouldn't offer us any alternative - leaving us to plan our own way to see Herculaneum and Vesuvius while everything was sold out and prices had risen. We settled on receiving our entrance tickets and arranging our own travel, in exchange for a refund for the transportation and tour guides, however over two weeks have passed and they are ignoring our messages and taking their sweet time to process the refund. Herculaneum and Vesuvius are well worth seeing, but stay far away from this tour. Awful service

They were not forthcoming with what this excursion really was. First it was difficult getting an answer as to what time the excursion was ending. When I booked it they said we would be back at 2:30pm. Three days before the excursion they changed the ending time to a time that would be difficult to get back to ship before departure. Then they told as that we could not do Herculaneum and Mount Vesuvius because the mount had a special event. We were not happy decided to go to Herculaneum. When we showed up a very nice lady tried to put us on a what looked like a city bus. Do not do this excursion.

Horrible tour operator

I just completed a 3 week tour of Italy and Greece. I booked all Viator excursions and they were wonderful, except for the Vesuvius and Herculaneum Day Trip from Naples. The tour operator Napoli Official Tour (+393667225765) was totally incompetent. Antonella with Napoli Tour was suppose to email me tickets to Vesuvius and Herculaneum. However, what was emailed was not the ticket to either. My husband and I were turned away at both venue. My husband luckily had a phone that worked in Italy. We called, got another person with operator and she was able to talk with the ticket person to allow us in. After Herculaneum, we called the operator and asked if we would be able to get into the Vesuvius part of the tour. We were assured, yes we would. But again, we were told (actually yelled at by the ticket guy that we did not have actual tickets). There was no internet and very spotty calling areas. Again, we called the operator, she was able to send screen shots of the actual tickets so we could get in. We then received an email from Antonella, saying what she sent would NOT work at Vesuvius and that we should just buy tickets there, even though I paid for the tour and it was suppose to include tickets. Very stressful situation. I feel all the issues were because of the tour operators (Antonella). I hope Viator reviews this operator before recommending them for future tours.

Don’t waste your time

It was just taxi services, not a tour as it says in the description. Besides it was 1,5 h late. The guide that was supposed to meet us on the top of Vesuvius was not there. On the way back I was left 2 km away from the point where I was supposed to be left “ because of the traffic”. Very bad experience, the driver also doesn’t speak English.

The driver didn't speak much English but he was very kind and helpful. The weather was overcast, so no view from the top of Vesuvius. It would have been nice to have more than two hours in Herculaneum. The tour was as expected...you get what you pay for.

Herculaneum was spectacular with mosaics and frescos in situ ..not removed to a museum elsewhere..same for the jewelry and housewares in the special exhibit..really worthwhile. Great driver who negotiated the tight turns up to Vesuvius. The 25 min hike uphill to the rim was worth it, spectacular..perfect weather all day.

We were really appreciative of Inna and Vincenzo, they made the trip logistically very easy and communicated very well with us. Vincenzo was a great driver and even dropped us of at a train stop closer to where we were staying instead of taking us all the back to Naples, which was very helpful. Herculaneum was very interesting and Vesuvius was beautiful.

As I hadn't read my email yet, I received a call to change the meeting point and the hour of the tour as the Pope was visiting Naples on the same day. Also received a text message per my request. Each tourist / group of friends / family received an envelope with the necessary tickets and vouchers for the tour. Also the hour the bus was picking us up. There was no guide. Herculaneum was visited in the morning. Small place but a lot of history if you're passionate about Vesuvius, Pompeii & Herculaneum. A lot of time to visit the ruins. Vesuvius was visited in the afternoon. It took a while for the bus to get to the starting point. Do not forget about your sun screen nor water, a cap and comfortable shoes. If you take children with you or have some medical issues (like asthma or something) take all you need in case you find some difficulties. It takes quite a long time to get up there, with a few stops (it took us an hour, could be less with less stops) and only 10 minutes to get down. Great view of the city. You can look inside of the crater and take some pictures. It recommend it.

There were 2 pickup times from each attraction so that it could be customised to the visitor's interest & schedule. However, a promised 30-min wine tasting session did not materialise. Do not promise & not deliver.

This was a good trip and Inna in the office where we exchanged our vouchers for tickets was very helpful. We had a couple of issues: 1. Traffic in Naples was extremely heavy and the bus ran very late thus meaning that we either had a short stay in Herulaneum or had to catch the last bus to Vesuvius - we did the latter. This meant we arrived at Vesuvius at the hottest part of the day - it would have been preferable if Vesuvius was before Herculaneum.rather than the other way round. 2. We were dropped at the Vesuvius coach park but had to walk down the hill to exchange our vouchers for tickets and then walk back up the hill to the start of the Vesuvius walk. It would have been better to be dropped off at the ticket office. Nevertheless we enjoyed the day - which was a very full one!

Very Disappointing

Herculaneum and Mount Vesuvius are amazing and not to be missed, you do need at the very least a couple of hours in Herculaneum , especially if you take a guided tour or have an audio guide and have to be fairly fit to get to the top of Vesuvius , but the views are worth it. However we booked this trip with Napoli Official Tour via Viator, and was very disappointed with the organisation. We were picked up at 10.00 and 3 shuttle buses later dropped off on a main road with no explanation as to were we need to go due to a language barrier. When we found out were to go next, this was a 10 minute walk to the site. There was 1 hour to go around Herculaneum (not enough time), before we had to get back on yet another bus to Visit Mt Vesuvius. I booked this tour with the belief that it was a coach trip with an English speaking guide on board. What it actually was is a shuttle service (that costs 20 euros) It states that theres 3 hours in Herculaneum, what you actually get is 1 hour, (we spent more time on 3 shuttle buses getting there) So for £58 you get a 20 euro shuttle bus service and the entrance into Herculaneum at around 15 euro. Both my friend and i feel that we were misled with the wording of this tour, and definately would not have booked if we had known that it was not an organised coach trip.

Mount Vesuvius is a challenge let’s be hobest, I didn’t manage to get to the crater my neice did being a fit and healthy 24 year old, views were amazing from the photos she took Herculaneum is a must visit,, more compact than Pompeii but in my opinion the ruins are more sensational. Our driver Angelo was courteous, on time and very helpful with our enquiries.

A éviter…. Manque total d’organisation

Manque d’organisation ahurissant de la part de l’organisme derrière Viator : nous étions à 9h15 au lieu de rdv, le car a ensuite mis plus d’une heure à faire le tour des 4 ou 5 arrêts pour récupérer d’autres voyageurs. Arrivés au dernier arrêt près de la gare de Naples, il y avait un surplus d’une quinzaine de touristes! Faute de place, 4 personnes étaient déjà debout dans le car… nous avons donc dû attendre une bonne demi-heure qu’un autre car arrive pour embarquer le surplus de passagers… même en roulant comme un dingue, nous avions plus d’une heure de retard à l’arrivée à Herculanum. Même topo ensuite pour l’entrée dans le parc du Vésuve… les visites en elles-mêmes sont chouettes mais la désorganisation, le temps passé à attendre et le stress généré gâchent un peu la journée…
