What To Expect

After morning pickup from locations in central Naples, relax during the scenic drive to Pompeii. 

Begin with a walking tour of the ruins of the ancient Roman city of Pompeii, stopping to see the thermal baths, racy paintings in the Lupanare, the Basilica, Macellum (market square), and the formerly opulent residence known as the House of Faun. Your guide shares informative commentary about life in old Pompeii and the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius. 

After your time at the ruins, enjoy a delicious pizza lunch or wine tasting (option selected at checkout). Next up, rejoin your driver and travel up Mt. Vesuvius to 3,280 feet (1,000 meters). Disembark there and follow your guide up a winding path that leads to the top of the volcano (this is a moderately challenging walk). Peer into the volcano crater and learn about the geology of the volcano from a volcanologist guide.

Your tour ends with return to your starting point in Naples in the late afternoon.

Great experience with our guide & driver for the day Italo & Bruno. Italo kept us well informed through out the day and made us feel comfortable. Our guide in Pompeii, Anna, was also very good and knowledgeable about the area, really good to get to know the finer details around what remains. Shame we couldn't have spent longer in Pompeii but that's the restrictions of a guided tour. Vesuvius is a tough walk, so be prepared, unfortunately for us by the time we walked up the first few stretches of path, the weather was on the turn with fog, followed by thunder and a down pour stopping us getting much further. The food option was good with nice scenic views that were unhindered by the weather conditions at the top.

I loved the experiance. Great to see Pompeii and Vesuvius, and lunch was delishes!!! BUT I wouldn't recommend the tour company. The tour was supposed to be in English but was in English and Italian. That wouldn't be that bad but the bus was really old, the AC didn't work properly, seats were really uncomfortable, and the speakers didn't work so we missed the guided tour on the way to the sites as it was very hard to hear. Wouldn't recommend that company.

A memorable experience

Very good tour. Guide was informative and professional. Pompeii tour was a good length but the only thing I’d change is to have a shorter lunch to potentially have more time at Mt. Vesuvius. I felt slightly rushed there but then turned out to be the first person back to the bus! So maybe the timing is fine.

Pompeii, Vesuvius and a flat tire

The tour of Pompeii was a group of 8 so we were not given a headset which made it hard to hear our tour guide. She was good and shared a lot of information. It is a quick walking tour to be able to cover the highlights of the Pompeii. The tour leader was great. We were delayed 45 minutes after our Pompeii tour due to a flat tire. She stayed very positive and once we got back in motion we had a change in schedule. We visited Vesuvius before lunch due to the timing of entrance for Mt. Vesuvius. So glad we brought a snack. Our lunch was very nice and the Vineyard was lovely.

A confusing start, but a great day overall with really good guides..

After a bit of a bumpy start, the tour ended up being fantastic. Our guide who picked us up, Martina, was awesome. Informative, helpful, and was there when we needed., When we got to Pompei, it was extremely crowded and busy, and we were the only English-speaking people in our small group, so we were moved to a larger group tour after some back and forth, We had a great guide, Raffeli, and he was super informative, so it worked out fine. We had to rush through because there were so many people, but we felt like we saw a lot. Then on to the vineyard, which was a somewhat unexpected (but good) part of the trip. Finally on to Vesuvius, where we made the climb to the top. We were pretty proud of ourselves, at 60 and 61, that we made it up and back! Then Martina got us safely back to Naples. All-in-all, a great time, and the early confusion was no result of the World Tours staff, they did their best with a somewhat chaotic situation, for which we were grateful.

This tour group was horrible. The guide did NOT speak English in Pompeii. We could not hear her at all and when we asked her to speak a little louder she completely ignored us and moved on with the tour. Don’t recommend at all. I was also promised to be picked up at my hotel which was a complete LIE. I had to spears 100’s of euro in taxi and most pick up spots were not easy to get to. Tour was very rushed and not enjoyable at all.

Go for a large group. Not the 12 we had

We had a small group at Pompeii so they did not use the radios with earpieces. Our guide was a soft spoken Italian woman with a heavy accent. Not only could we not hear her but when we could hear, her accent was so thick she was not understandable. We caught about 10% of what she said. Wish we were with a bigger group that had the radios which there were many.

Excellent tour and wonderful staff. Had a truly wonderful day. Connie and Giusy facilitated everything very smoothly. We learned so much about Pompeii from Claudia! Our driver Giovanni also did an excellent job on some very tricky roads on Mt. Vesuvius. Lunch was excellent and greatly enjoyed the hike on Mt. Vesuvius and seeing the crater.

Pompeii was very rushed. Don't go if you're not a strong walker.

The trip was ok but the Pompeii part was very short and very rushed. Considering it's a full day they only allocate 2 hours for the Pompeii part itself which is very rushed by the tour guide. If you're not able to walk at a fast pace on uneven ground you get left behind and lost easily and there's not much time to take in the sights as the tour guide rushes you from place to place to fit into the time allocated. You don't see a lot of Pompeii and there is no time allocated for self exploration at all. It was a bit of a shame and we were disappointed as my father finds it hard to walk fast so he was frequently left behind and missed out on parts of the tour. The rest of the day was fine, Vesuvius was great with great views and the bus was comfortable. Lunch was a surprise as a four course menu, and the restaurant accommodated our groups dietary requirements. Driver and Antonio were also friendly.

Also, considering the amount of historical facts, anecdotes and art pieces even a whole day is not enough in order to explain everything about Pompeii. Cool experience but use a different company

The experiences of seeing Pompeii and climbing Mount Vesuvius were incredible! However, this tour had some missteps, and I wouldn't recommend using this company. First, the lunch (which was not pizza) was very bland, and we couldn't order any drinks besides an overpriced wine-tasting. The restaurant was completely packed in with other tour groups, which also made the experience uncomfortable. Our tour guide, Maria, gave some interesting facts, but it was light on the commentary for a guided tour. The visit to Pompeii was very cool, but you go to portions of the excavation with very few of the plaster casts, so there is a big crowd to try to take pictures there. On our drive up Mount Vesuvius, our driver Gennaro got angry with another tour bus coming down that had caused problems. Maria had to interrupt her commentary to us in order to tell him to calm down, which made the drive feel less safe. Once we were able to hike up to the crater, even in very windy conditions, the view was spectacular and worth it.

Amazing day at Pompeii and Vesuvius

Fantastic day trip. Our guide Sandra was so knowledgeable and enthusiastic. She took great care on our each member of our group ( 21 of us!!!!!). She made the day even more fun for all of us with her great humour and amazing knowledge of many languages (Italian, French, English, Flemish!!!!). Special gratitude to our driver Giovanni, very professional and punctual. We were feeling very safe on the roads of Naples (crazy traffic) and on the way to Vesuvius (narrow, steep and winding), with such an experienced driver. Amazing Pompeii tour guide Andrea took us back to Roman Empire with so many interesting details that nobody wanted the tour to be ended. I highly recommend this group of outstanding guides and driver if you decide to take tour to this beautiful part of Italy. Grazie Mille Sandra, Giovanni and Andrea!

Gabriel and Antonio were amazing! Best tour guide and driver we could have asked for as we ventured off to Pompeiians Mount Vesuvius. Fantastic day trip. Our guide Gabriel Casavega was so knowledgeable and enthusiastic. He made the day even more fun for all of us with his great humour and personable way about him. We had plenty of time at both stops. The coach was very comfortable with very good driver Antonio. Would highly recommend!🇬🇧

We had our tour today with Connie and Giusy. They were very friendly and took good care of us. Our driver Giovanni was great. He drove very well although going up and down the hill was a bit tricky, he did well. Our guide Claudia was fantastic! She gave us great information and answered all our questions. My only complaint is that they did not pick us up from our hotel. Although it says hotel pick up and drop off included, we had to pay 25 euros to go and come back (so 50 euros in total). Did not appreciate that as it says included and we paid for it to be included but it was not.

Really well organised. Maria and Bruno were lovely and our Pompeii tour guide Valentina was fab- so enthusiastic and lovely. It was incredibly busy, but even Valentina seemed thrown by this- but made it work. Vesuvius was my highlight definitely!
