Tour company added Tulum along with...
Richard M, Dec 2017
Tour company added Tulum along with Coba. Having been to Tulum over 10 years ago, I looked forward to the re-visit. WHAT A HORROR!! Previously you drove up on the beach. Walked up the hill and there were the ruins. Now, the buses go to their parking areas. You are met with a DISGUSTING sight. The Mexican government has built all souvenir shops before you see the ruins. But, it gets even better! There are scantily clad men, apparently dressed as Mayans. One was busy playing with this long white snake which was available for pictures. You are then rushed into one of these souvenir shops to have a Mayan do a calendar for you. Only 45usd! Back to the line where you have to wait for an open-air tram. Miguel and Minita mouse were not available. As we boarded the tram, Donald Duck and Pluto were off that day. The ruins were nice. Getting off the tram, there was a man with a monkey who you could gladly pet or pose for a picture for a fee. It was hot, so you could go to the bar for a cerveza or cafe Thankfully, I had very nice memories of my first visit!!!!!! We then went to Coba. Our tour guide showed us some of the closer ruins. The main temple was a mile away. You had a choice: bike, walk, or have a ride in the tricycle propelled by a young worker. The temple was awesome. A rope stretched down from the top so people who dared climb it could safeguard themselves should they lose their balance. Coba is worth seeing. The commercialism at Tulum is nauseating.

This a great trip - well worth the time, energy , and cost. Carlos was our guide - very education. detailed information with hands on experiences. Hands down - the ruins of Coba were the best part of the trip. Glad we had the complimentary experiences but not necessary to enhance the trip. Thank you Carlos for a truly great experience
