What To Expect

After making your own way to the Liberty sailboat at the Sunset Resort Marina, step on board the handsome boat, which is modeled after a 1914 Friendship Sloop.

Your captain uses traditional sailing techniques to power your vessel, which has gaff rigging, a wooden mast and handsome decorative details. If you want to try your hand at sailing, participation is encouraged. During the 2.5-hour tour, you might spot sea lions and dolphins, and ride alongside grand ships such as the the USS Midway or the USS Carl Vinson.

The all-inclusive cruise includes refreshments such as craft beer, white wine, soda, water, and light snacks. Pass close to landmarks like the Maritime Museum and its flagship Star of India, Coronado Bridge, and Old Point Loma Lighthouse, and snap photos of the San Diego skyline as it lights up for the night.

Cut-off times are based on the experience’s local time.
This experience requires good weather. If it’s canceled due to poor weather, you’ll be offered a different date or a full refund.

I am not a big reviewer, but this sail was the highlight of my San Diego trip! The boat was uniquely beautiful and really well-maintained and it turns out the captain is also the owner and does all the work himself (along with his wife and son). I loved the military ships and the wildlife and the sunset was spectacular. Captain was super chill and I enjoyed talking with the three other guests. Anyway, had to give a review. Highly recommend!

I would love to rate this higher because sailing on a beautiful boat in the San Diego Harbor on a lovely day should only be wonderful. However when your captain chooses not to tell you anything about the boat, sailing, San Diego, etc. it makes 3 hours seem like 6. Thankfully the other two participants were lovely and the 4 of us were able to chit chat. Even when asked questions we got 2 word answers. I’m not sure if captain was having a bad day or what, but I learned nothing from his lifetime career of sailing in San Diego. I also was very disappointed as the sun begin to set and our boat was situated behind navel air craft carriers. There was no reason given why we didn’t get to see the sunset on a sunset sailing experience.

Phil was very chill and awesome! He very politely answered the million questions we had about the boat. The boat was stunning! We ended up getting a private tour. Make sure you are a responsible adult and show up on time and you will have a great experience.

Captain Phillip was the ultimate guide and nautical navigator for this tour; his knowledge of sailing and the water was truly impressive and really added to our overall experience of this trip. The boat was comfortable and the beverages were great! The tour highlighted beautiful sights around San Diego, that otherwise would not be accessible. Our family truly appreciated Captain Phillip, his insights, and the boat Liberty. The size of the boat (holds up to 6) was perfect for our four-member family, with comfortable room to even climb to the bow and get up close to the sea lions! Would highly recommend him specifically for tours!!

Captain Philip made us right at home and served drinks before we powered out of the marina. We sailed out through the bay past the naval base. We saw zodiacs head out for BUD/S training and helicopters fly in and out for training at the navel base. The boat had beautiful wood detail and it was a gorgeous evening sail and the sun set.
