An informative and enjoyable day out

Colin our tour guide for the day was a most enthusiastic and passionate guide , Particularly about the environment and ecology of the area . Whilst it was a long day it was well planned to provide numerous stops with amazing views . And at most stops all park rangers were eager and keen to share their knowledge. We were well fed and watered with plenty of snacks and a delicious lunch - which was even served with tablecloth and napkins!! All in all an amazing day with loads of memories and good value for money. Thank you Evergreen Escapes and an even bigger thank you to our guide Colin for his patience and kindness .

What a great day! Mt. St. Helen might be the star of the show but our guide Tess was definitely the producer and director. She was personable, professional, knowledgeable, friendly, and well organized which made this trip an absolute delight. Her homemade breakfast and lunch made it seem like we were on an outing with an old friend. Starting with a hike to learn about old growth forests, seeing the devastation caused by the eruption, and being able to see how nature has adapted afterward, the trip has a natural sequence to it. Ending with a stop at Mt. St. Helens and Bigfoot Interpretive Center, and hearing Joe’s detailed explanations about the eruption and it’s effects was a perfect way to wrap up a great tour. I highly recommend both this trip and Tess!

The trip to Mount St. Helens was incredible. The stops at the Billy Frank Jr. Nisqually National Wildlife Refuge and the Lewis and Clark State Park were great side stops. The guide provided a lot of interesting information along the way.

Terrific Trip with History and Geology

It was spectacular to see Mount St. Helens and surrounding areas. Until you visit it’s hard to imagine the scale of destruction caused by the May 1980 eruption. The tour, hiking and background history and geology were great. Marty was an excellent guide and the ample food and drinks we ate all day were delicious (especially the cookie)!

Don't miss this great Nature trip!

Just Wow. I was expecting to see barren, black rock but Mt. St. Helen's is a testament to Nature's recovery. Our tour guide, Nate, was awesome! He is a naturalist and went over the whole scenario of what happened leading up to the eruption, which people were expecting but not the actual force, and what happened afterwards. Mt. St. Helens is huge, we were 7 miles away in the observatory and it looked so much closer. In addition to Mt. St Helens the trip also included a trip to a nature preserve and a small hike through an old growth forest. There we saw trees 300-500 years old, it was amazing. Then we had a picnic at Coldwater Lake. Nate was knowledgeable about historic facts as well as the trees and wildflowers - it made a big difference! It was a full day and totally worth it.

Excellent intro to the Pacific Northwest and Mt. St. Helens

Mal was the best of guides, and the trip turned out to be so much more than I had expected. Completely surprised by the breakfast stop in the nature preserve with French press coffee and fresh baked treats. The hike in the old growth forest was an excellent taste of the true Pacific Northwest and an excellent comparIson to the new growth forest surrounding Mt. St. Helens. And once at the Johnston overlook, it was somber, fascinating, majestic, and informative. When lunch was set up, we had tablecloths, cloth napkins, silverware, and pottery plates upon which to enjoy a fresh festival of flavors—Southwestern bean and corn salad, quinoa with edamame, grilled chicken, and savory tofu. It was a long day but a fascinating and most satisfying one. So glad I took this tour!

Excellent tour. We were picked up from our hotel in downtown Seattle, which was very convenient for us. Our guide, Nate, took really good care of us and was very knowledgeable. He led us on a couple of hikes, the best being the one starting from the Johnson Observatory, where we got spectacular views of Mt. St. Helens. We really enjoyed the time we spent with him. I highly recommend this tour.

What a fantastic day! Our tour guide, Mal, was friendly, knowledgeable, and very considerate of the needs of our group. Our stops were well-planned and customized to our group of 5. We were able to appreciate the beauty of the the scenery, learn about the eruptions, realize the enormous immediate and long-term impact of the 1980 eruption, and take two short hikes. Food and beverages were plentiful. Although breakfast was quite simple, lunch was a picnic with barbecue chicken, fried tofu, lemon pasta, and black bean salad. Everything was delicious!

Fun and informative experience

I had a really food experience, my tour guide Mal was new to the area but very knowledgeable about the events of the eruption and the surrounding area. If she didn’t know she did her best to find out for us. There was a couple on the tour with health challenges but she did a good job managing their needs with the rest of the group that wanted a more active experience. And lunch was also a really good experience, we even had a tablecloth. The food was really good.

The entire trip was memorable. Seeing the mountain was breathtaking. The flexibility of our driver was excellent. Beating the clouds and giving us the experience of our view was his priority and we are thankful. His knowledge of the surrounding area was amazing and informative. Lunch was well thought out and beyond what was expected. Overall this experience is without question worth the money. The multiple stops to and from the mountain greatly increased the tours value. Please hike the waterfalls even if it's raining we were the only couple to do this and WOW!! the others missed out, but our driver let us experience this. The only con we can say is we were picked up last which caused us not to have seats next to each other which was important to us. Do to this fact our 5 star rating is reduced to 4.85

Was set up for 6:40 meet up time, had about 1hr drive to get there, was 6:20 when I got call they canceled it...and then sent email at 7:20 saying it was canceled. But at least we got full refund.

Hello Couple, I am disheartened to see this review come across despite our best efforts to take the two of you out to one of the national parks in Washington State. To provide a bit more context, this tour starts and ends in Seattle, Washington, so given that the guests were staying in an area an hour outside of the city, we are unable to provide pick up options in this region. We offered two meeting times - 6:40a at our office before the guide departed for Downtown while allowing the guests to park for free in one of our spots or 7:30a at our last location in Downtown Seattle where the guests would have to find alternate parking. They chose the former. On the morning of this particular tour our guide woke up feeling unwell and alerted me as soon as possible. Out of concern for the safety of our staff and our guests, we chose to cancel this tour because we take the health of everyone of our travelers very seriously and require all of our guides who are not feeling well to get a COVID-19 test. We called this group as soon as we made this decision to alert them before they departed towards Seattle. During this call, we offered them the option to join us on two alternate tours - our Mt. Rainier National Park tour and our Olympic National Park tour--to move their reservation to an different departure date, or to cancel their reservation with a full refund. The guests chose the last option. The decision to cancel this tour was not made lightly, but was made with the care of our travelers in mind. This is the only time in the past 18 months we have had to cancel a tour for this reason, and we offered multiple alternatives to the various groups on this tour to join us in another capacity. I am sorry that we were unable to provide a Mt. St. Helens experience on this particular date, but we would never risk the health of our guests and our other staff members just to keep a tour open. I hope that these guests and any future travelers who may read this review will understand the difficulty of that decision and our reason for doing so. Kind Regards, Kenzi, Evergreen Escapes
