Great Tour with Wonderful English Tour Guide
Vicki_V, Jan 2023
I thoroughly enjoyed this tour. We were picked up from hotel only about 5-10 minutes past the scheduled time. I had someone text me the night before informing us of when they would be picking us up from our hotel. We were picked up in a small van which had some other groups inside. From there they took us to a meeting spot where a lot of other small vans were dropping people off at. At the meeting spot they checked us in and got us onto a big tour bus. Once on the road they gave us a small paper bag with an apple, sandwich, and some cookies. The ride to Chichen Itza took about 3 hours. We first got off at the Cenote Il Kil and were given an hour to swim before having to board back on the bus. After Il Kil, we made our way to Chichen Itza close by. They had different tour guides based on the languages we spoke, and we enjoyed our English tour guide- he was very friendly and had a great sense of humor. It was very hot when we went, and there's barely any shade so I recommend bringing an umbrella and water. After giving us a tour for about 30 minutes, they gave us free time to explore the grounds. After Chichen Itza we went to our buffet lunch which happened to be at Cenote Suytun. Drinks are not apart of the buffet, but available to be purchased. The food served was decent. Cenote Suytun is completely underground and a lot more busy. There's a long line to take a photo at the famous photo spot. Personally, I enjoyed the Cenote Il Kil more. After getting back on the bus we made our way back. The day started around 6:30AM for me and we got back to our hotel around 7pm. I enjoyed the tour overall and would do another tour with this company.
We enjoyed the overall...
Stephanie_G, Oct 2022
We enjoyed the overall experience but there were a few things that made things uncomfortable. 1. Our ride was 30mins late. 2. Since our ride was late we had to sit in the very back of the bus which would not be bad but the seats smashed in. Way closer than the rest. It's the only area in which we had to share with someone else. The lady in front of us refused to put her seat up which made it impossible to put tue food try down or move in and out the seats. and we had to move every time someone had to go to the bathroom. Noone should have to sit in that row. Some directions were alittle confusing when you go out to a location. You see a lot but very rushed.
Response from Host, Nov 2022
Hello Miss Stephanie We apologize for the transport delay, it was due to a delay in other pickups, we will take action on the matter to improve the transport units and we will better train our staff so that there is more effective communication. We hope that you will return soon to provide you with a 10 service
Your experience might vary…

I was very excited about joining this tour. We had some difficulties originally communicating with this operator. Our tour was on a Wednesday, but because we were out all day on a different tour on Tuesday, I tried to get insight on the pick up time on Tuesday. Out tickets said 7am, so that’s what I went with. When they arrived at 6:05am, we were caught off guard, so they offer to reschedule until the next day at no cost. That part was good. We woke up super early (5am) because we didn’t want to be late, and got on the van and paid our $30 preservation tax up front. The operators aren’t really good at arranging pick ups, because they went north from our hotel to get a small family, and then came back south again passing our hotel to pick up others. We could have been picked up at 7am the previous day like we expected without any issues, but they don’t seem to understand that they would drive south again to pass our hotel. Here is where the problems began. My girlfriend got really sick during the 2 plus hours of pick up time. We had to leave the tour and exit out. We had to pay a taxi to return to the hotel. All those things are understandable. We had to leave the tour, we had to find a way to get back to the hotel. We were lucky we were only 25 minutes from our hotel even though we were already in the van for 2 plus hours. So after we visit the doctor and return to the hotel, we remembered we didn’t get our preservation tax back. It’s a small amount, $30 for the two of us, but the reason they gave us for not returning it was lame. They told us they wouldn’t refund it because we had already rescheduled once. What does a tax for preservation have anything to do with our rescheduling? That tax should either go to the site to actually preserve it or to the agency that manages the site. Since we didn’t go to the site, we shouldn’t need to pay for its preservation. We originally asked if we were to book again, if they would just consider the fee paid since we “technically” already paid them. After they said we would need to pay again, we were done with this tour company. I think any tour company would have considered that “preservation tax” paid since we did pay it and didn’t go on the site. After 30 minutes of back and forth, they finally agreed to the $30 being a credit, but to be honest, we didn’t like the interaction with this company and won’t be recommending or using them again. It’s really too bad because we liked the itinerary of this tour. Suytun was really on our bucket list. Most of the tours to chichen itza doesn’t include Suytun, offering only Ik Kil only. I just wish I could have left a great review of this tour but instead I have to leave a bad one.
Response from Host, Nov 2022
Hello Mr. James, We are sorry that an inconvenience occurred with your girlfriend, and that this caused your inconvenience due to the payment you made, that is not included, but it is not access, it is a separate charge, so it could not be refunded, a big apology for making you you'll have a hard time while we honor the payment you've already made. We hope you give us another opportunity to do the tour and now describe your experience about the places you visited in your next review.

Luxury?? I dont think so
Molly_L, Aug 2022
I wouldn’t say this is Luxury, in fact far from it!! Where do I begin?…. To start they were an hour & 1/2 late picking us up and getting their act together… they didn't know who went on what bus, who was on what tour… JOKE…. 2nd I have never been more rushed on a tour in my life. Every stop we were threatened that if we were not on the bus by (X) time they would leave us and have to find our own ride to next location & how important it was we were on time, coming from the people that were a 1 1/2 late picking us up… LOL…. There were 4 stops total and we literally…. Literally had to run to the activity have maybe 15 minutes to enjoy the activity and run back… no time whatsoever to enjoy…. Lastly guide named “BALAM”… thee rudest person ive ever met on any Viator tour ive been on… this guy stated he was an English professor, HEY BALAM I wouldnt quit your day job hunty, because im not one of your students you can talk down to!! Im a grown a** women not your student!!! … the word LUXERY needs to be eliminated from this tour headliner!!!!
Response from Host, Nov 2022
Hello Miss Molly, We offer you a great apology on behalf of our staff due to the behavior of our guide, in the same way we will improve the performance of our other guides to provide the best service. On your next visit we will offer you a discount in compensation. Best regards
Bad Tour Guide
Dharm_P, Aug 2022
The tour guide was awful. He spent most of the time speaking in Spanish with a few English words mixed in. The scheduled activities were switched around and combining that with the little English it was very confusing. At the second cenotes the guide disappeared entirely and we were left with the driver and another guide who spoke no English at all. We had to speak go a tour guide from another bus to get information. The tour guide at chichén itza was amazing and very insightful. The small group of English speakers were very grateful to finay be able to understand what was going on. The sites were beautiful and amazing to visit but the tour guide ruined the experience. Every other tour we had been on has a veery gold Spanish and English section of explanations and made everyone feel comfortable.
Response from Host, Nov 2022
Hello dear Dharm_P, An apology for your experience due the communication in English, we will take action on the matter and better train our guides to provide the best information. We will wait for you again with a discount on your next tour with us.
Not worth the money.
Fatimah_K, Aug 2022
Without writing too much, I’d simply like to say that this tour is not it. It was wrongly advertised as a luxury tour with the availability of an English tour guide. If you do not speak Spanish, you will find it hard to follow what is going on (e.g., where are we stopping, how long do we have at this place, when will we be dropped off home, what is happening or what do we need when we get off the bus, etc.). As a lover of different cultures, the speaking of Spanish in a country where this is the native language was not the issue. The issue was that i paid for the opportunity to learn about the culture but was barely able to understand half of what was being said. In addition, the food was not it. Breakfast was a bagged bologna sandwich and lunch was a cafeteria style serve and go. I made the mistake of using the bathroom to wash my hands and half the food choices were gone as people who were in line earlier kept getting up to go for seconds. As if this wasn’t enough, the time frame of this tour is not worth it. Chichen Itza is a sight to see and if you can, Go! But we had to be at the hotel entrance at 6 am for pick up and 4 hours later, we finally arrived at the first cenote. We didn’t make it back to the hotel until 10:30 pm. This hotel was only our pickup location. We had to walk to our air bnb late at night because the bus would not drop off us there. I’ll refrain from going on, as the country was amazing to visit and Cancun was so much fun. Just .. if you can avoid this tour. Please do so.
Response from Host, Nov 2022
Hello Miss Fatima, We are very sorry that your experience on this tour was not as you would have liked, this tour is long due to the distance from Chichen Itza to the Cancun or Playa del Carmen area, and being a shared group, this can be more tiring due to timing of the group. We will train our staff to improve communication and have more fluid conversations. We will be waiting for you with a discount and we invite you to try our private option where you will make your itinerary and decide how long to spend in each destination. Best regards
Please learn from our mistake, do not book this. Not as advertised.
Allyson_P, Aug 2022
I have never actually written or felt compelled to write a review on anything before. However, this experience was negative enough that I feel compelled to ensure that no one else is misled by this tour listing. It’s hard to know where to start on how this went wrong but I will start by pointing out what is described as part of this “luxury” listing versus what you experience in real life. To begin, the tour is described as an (approximate) 12 hour tour. When I think approximate I tend to think plus or minus 2-3 hours to account for unexpected delays or happenings. No. This is a 16 to 17-hour day (most of which is spent on a jam packed, insufficiently cooled bus) without delays. We were one of the last pick ups in Cancun which means that most others on the bus had an even earlier meeting time ranging from 5:30-6. Our meeting time was 6:30AM. We were dropped back off at our meeting spot at 10:45 PM. Again, this is with zero delays, this is just how long the tour takes. It also indicates that the tour is in English or Spanish. We signed up for the tour in English. However, our tour was almost entirely in Spanish. We had absolutely no idea where we were going or when we were going there all day, as they spoke fairly exclusively in Spanish without attempts to translate while on the bus. We’re fairly easygoing and didn’t totally mind not knowing where were going or what was going on at all times but it did become somewhat of a problem figuring out meeting times and locations for getting back to the bus at each stop. They also indicated that the chichen itza tour would be guided by an English-speaking guide. Our guide spoke English for the first 20 minutes or so and then gave up and switched to Spanish for the remaining hour of the presentation so we just googled the history of chichen itza on our own. Next, tour indicates that you can “explore” two cenotes. In reality, you are given exactly one hour at each location. By the time everyone gets off the bus and walks to the cenote, you have about 30 minutes to enjoy before having to head back to load yourselves back on the bus in a timely fashion. The tour also indicates that it offers “breakfast, a drink on the bus” and “a buffet lunch.” Breakfast was an inedible bread with a single slice of expired Bologna and a Kraft single on it with a small apple and child-size box of apple juice. A wonderfully stomach churning start to the journey at 7:30AM. When they say “a drink on the bus” they quite literally mean one single drink (personally I chose the not even full size water bottle) for the entire 16+ hour day. If you do decide to embark on this hellish journey to see sites which - in hindsight - we could have seen fairly easily by rental car or van, bring water. The lunch buffet was likewise fairly inedible and served at what can only be described as an outdoor high school cafeteria where sanitation standards are nil and unlike a high school cafeteria, staff are certainly not required to wear hair nets as out of the five of us in the group, two of us had a number of strands of hair in our food. I personally fed most of my meal to the starving stray dogs who kept coming up to our table but given that we did not arrive to lunch until 4PM after having had no time to eat at any of the other stops and having a small apple at 7:30AM, the others in our group were starving. Unfortunately, In summary, I have no idea where our $118 was spent, as entry into each location was anywhere from $10-20 and every person was also required to pay the additional $15 “ruins” tax upon arrival to the bus. I really could go on about how horrible this experience was but I feel like the point has been made. Please do not book this. It’s simply not as advertised and there are so many better ways to see these sites for the same price.
Response from Host, Aug 2022
Hello Miss Allyson, We are sorry that you had a bad experience due to the duration of the tour, currently in Cancun repairs are being carried out on the federal highway that is the main connection between Cancun and Playa del Carmen, the road that is taken to go to Chichen Itza. Therefore, being the first days of the work, it is when it causes more traffic, and therefore delay, in the same way at each stop there is tolerance time so as not to leave customers, for this reason the movement of the group does not depend only of us, but of the people in your group. Regarding the guides who did not speak English, it was a mistake since we really always try to give attention to English-speaking clients, however, if there are more people in the group in Spanish and they ask the guide in English, the guide responds out of courtesy, however, we will take actions to improve this and provide more personalized attention. Regarding what you say about renting a car, we invite you to organize a private tour with us so you can see the difference since you decide the places and time you spend in the points of interest you visit. The experience depends on each person, and just as it seemed like a disaster to you, others liked this experience. Our most sincere apologies from the staff, we hope you enjoy your next tours.
No where near Luxury
Bathche_F, Aug 2022
I don’t usually write reviews but that’s how moved I am about this “luxury” tour. First and foremost, this is not an attack on the crew or criticism of the company; this is just an informative review of my personal experience for anyone who is looking to book with this company. THIS TOUR IS NOT FOR NON SPANISH SPEAKERS. If you do not speak Spanish, you should look to book with someone else. I completely understand being in a Spanish speaking country and therefore I should know some of the language but when I booked this tour, there was an option for English speakers. The tour guides didn’t really translate/speak English too often. Hector was very sweet but he gave up on translating to English early on. Starting from the beginning: we arrived to our location at 6:30 and the bus arrived around 6:45. There were two stops in between. I think we should also explore the definition of luxury and how it is subjective. The seats were very close together to the point where if the person in the seat in front of you leaned back you could not move. Your knees were stuck in the back of their seat and you’d end up with a persons head n your lap. Unfortunately for me, the person in front of me had a head full of dandruff. It made the ride uncomfortable to say the least. We received “lunch” around 9:30 a.m.; it consisted of a bologna and cheese sandwich, an apple, and apple juice. I personally cannot deal with the scent of bologna and my friends are vegetarian so to have an option would have been nice. I didn’t eat mine and the crew members seemed offended. I believe that the lunch bag, including the sandwich was saved for later for someone else to eat. The tour guides were silent for the first three hours of the drive, we had no idea of the itinerary of arrival time. After about 3.5 hours we received a very informational (hour long) history lesson on the Mayan and Aztec culture… all in Spanish with a translation every few paragraphs. We were advised of three stops, (1) the first cenote, (2) Chichen Itza, and (3) lunch which occurred at the same location as the last cenote. We arrived at the first cenote and it was beautiful. There wasn’t clear English instructions including what time to be back to the bus. I think if I wasn’t so hungry I could have enjoyed it more. Due to the fact that the lunch provided was not enjoyable, we spent $11 for two bags of chips. I think we arrived back on time but we ended up waiting about twenty minutes for the other individuals to board the bus again. Sadly this wasn’t the last time. Once leaving the first cenote we then went to the headliner: Chichen Itza. This was the first time we were told the requirements (only in Spanish) for Chichen Itza. What I understood was no bag, no electronic device, no food, and a mask requirement. They (the tour company) were charging one USD dollar per mask. The mask was required for 45 seconds. Also small bags and electronics were allowed. There were two tour guides dedicated to Spanish speakers and one for English speakers. The tour itself was beautiful and very informative. Hector was speaking English until our tour group was joined by Spanish only speakers who were separated from their group. Hector reverted back to Spanish. It was unfortunate. We took pictures and headed back to the bus before the 2:45 deadline. I still very much enjoyed this part of the tour; definitely my favorite part. We again made it back to the bus on time but had to wait approximately 20 minutes for everyone to come to the bus. Upon arrival to the bus we were provided an option of water, soda, or beer. The confirmation email advised that there would be be a drink included in the tour, I wrongfully assumed it would be with our lunch options that was provided at a later time. Not only were we late to depart, we also had additional guest on board. 2 individuals, that we assumed missed their bus — because of course no one thought to provide an explanation, had now joined our very packed bus. They stood directly by my head for the full hour drive to lunch. The air on the bus was minimal to the point that it wasn’t effective. Having them stand over me with a front passenger leaning in my lap made for an uncomfortable experience. Honestly I don’t think I would have mind if there were some sort of explanation or if the rest of the day were better. The lunch. Lunch was buffet style; the food was covered by glass and served by the restaurant staff. The options were spaghetti, soup and crackers, broccoli and carrots, white rice, black beans, and pork. Salad and flan were also included. However, the drinks for lunch were not included; they were sold separately. For two bottles of water, a Coke, and a Sprite, we paid $12… I was not a fan of the food but what made maters worse, we also found hair in two different servings of the salad. I was ready to get home and eat real food. At 4:45, after lunch we were attempting to sit on the bus but we were told to come back in thirty minutes. I’m not sure why we couldn’t sit on the bus but we were told no. We stood outside and obliged. At this time, there were a few passengers waiting for the bus; one of the crew members escorted a group of them to the pickup location and did not offer us the same courtesy. I assumed it was because we did not speak the same language and he couldn’t effectively communicate with us but after pondering I believe he was just as annoyed with us as we were with this tour. Eventually we were permitted to get on the bus. Again we waited about fifteen minutes for passengers to load. The saving grace was that our visitors found their crew and did not need o stand over us. Once everyone was on board we were informed of ANOTHER stop. It was unclear if this was our last stop but at this point we had been on the tour for 12 hours. We then stopped for thirty minutes at a park which was wonderful. We left the park closer to the time we were told. This part of the trip was enjoyable similar to the Chichen Itza tour. On the ride home, the crew went down the row requesting tips. We headed back home and the drop off locations were announced only in Spanish. We got off of the bus at 10:00 p.m. and immediately went to locate food. I appreciate the effort the crew members put into making sure the tour was filled with activities, I personally would have enjoyed this tour if it were a bit more organized. My experience was only my experience but if you are not a Spanish speaker and/or would prefer luxury I would not book with this company.

Hello Bathche_F We are sorry that you had a bad personal experience, Chichen Itza is far from the Cancun and Playa del Carmen area it can be tiring and we understand it. We will improve our logistics and staff training in order to provide a better service in the English language. We will also take vegetarian options into account so that in the future if you visit us again we can meet your expectations. Thank you for your comment and we hope you come back soon to offer you a discount on your next tour or activity with us. Best regards
Awesome sites, but here’s some tips
Theresa_C, Jul 2022
We saw so much in one day, but it’s a very long day. Be prepared to be gone ALL day 7a-1030p. I handled it fine, but my partner was crabby which sucked some of the life out of the highlights of the trip. Make sure you go with someone who can handle it. I still enjoyed the sites because they were beautiful, but here are some tips that would have helped us: sit in the front of the bus because the back is super hot (limited ac). Bring breakfast bc what they give is gross. The lunch they coordinate is fantastic though. Bring water shoes and a towel. Bring pesos for shopping at Chitchen. Guides were nice, they have a hard job so tip them. Our bus driver should be given a metal, he drove all day in Mexico— that ain’t easy. Overall very happy with the tour. Great price too.
Response from Host, Oct 2022
If it is a long tour due to the distance of the place, we appreciate that you understand that since we strive to take you to the places of interest and make you enjoy it. In advance an apology for the breakfast, we will try to improve it so that you can enjoy the whole trip. In the same way we are glad to know that you enjoy it and that you have a good experience.
Worst guide
Renin_A, Jun 2022
The places we have been to were amazing but the organisation of this company was terrible. Luxury word needs to be removed from this tour you cannot call it luxury with literally poverty. I was picked up on time by a driver that had no English to take me to the tour. When we got dropped off to the Tour bus we literally had to wait for an hour for everyone to arrive as there’s over 40 people joining this. The tour started with only Spanish the guides in the bus were explaining everything in Spanish so imagine each stop we had was completely unaware of instructions. There was 6 other English speakers that we all had to ask each other what we think we need to do and when we need to arrive back. It was terrible organisation we had no proper guide as we spoke English. The worst part again was organisation I got back to my hotel at 10:40pm as I stayed in Cancun and we drove to Tulum to Maya del Carmen to drop off other passengers. It was definitely not Luxury I had the worst food ever so breakfast is ham sandwich with one piece of tiny lettuce and an apple. I couldn’t eat the sandwich at all then the so called ‘buffet’ please since when 3 options only has been called a Buffet? The food taste was horrible nothing to do Mexican food. I trusted Viator as a reliable online booking system but have been let down so badly I will never recommend or use this site again. When advertising these stuff please be reliable and stick to what is adversities my time was wasted I was hungry tired and unhappy with this tour. This company needs to be revisited. It’s not fair we paid a price to enjoy the experience but there was no guide only very long taxi service. It’s not fair we travel long distances to see wonders of the world and you have no guidance. I will not book with Viator for any future plans as this has completely disappointed me.
Response from Host, Jun 2022
Hello dear Renin, We are sorry that you had a bad experience during the tour due to the lack of communication from the guides, we will take action regarding this situation. On the other hand, food is a dish to choose from in a restaurant, and as you can imagine, people's tastes are different, just as you didn't like it, other people loved it. Regarding the duration of the tour, since you lived it, the road is long, so it takes more time and we give you a fair amount of time for each place you visit and we do not rush you to move as in others where you visit only 2 places, in addition to it is a shared tour, if we went through a client in a bus the time you mention would be even more, since 50 people fit per bus. To avoid these inconveniences and so that you can enjoy a better experience, we invite you to book a private tour with us or another company so that you can enjoy it your way. Have a great day!
FUN DAY OUT
Andrea_D, May 2022
I would definitely recommend this if you want to see the most in one day. You have to keep in mind you will be gone all day 7 am-10 pm and the food was not good but it does the job. The crew was super cool and very professional. Overall I really liked it and all you get to see but the food is a huge con! and I get it, it is "free" but I would have rather had more food options.
Response from Host, Jul 2022
Hello Miss Andrea, Thank you very much for your comment, we are glad to know that you enjoyed the tour, in the matter of food it depends on each palate, or it may have been just for a day like that, normally the food is always good since we want you to recharge energy to be able to keep enjoying this tour

Awesome tour!

We had a great time on the tour. Christian was fun and informative. We were picked up right on time by our driver and the ride to the first cenote seemed pretty fast. The day goes surprisingly quick. Everyone that we came across all day from the cenotes, chichen itza, and buffets everyone was super friendly and welcoming. I mainly picked this tour because of the 2 cenotes and they did not disappoint. I would definitely do this tour again!

It was a long day but totally worth it. The cenote's were beautiful. The open one was our favorite vs the closed/cave one. The lunch was good food. Having umbrellas at Chichen Itza was a great perk that I did not see other tours giving their customers. It was HOT! 95deg not including humidity. The guides were knowledgeable and the history information they gave both on the bus as well as the site was great. Enough time to wonder around and take pictures on your own. Wish there was more time at the first cenote (open one). One hour seemed quick since we had to change into our bathing suits then back into dry clothes to go to Chinchen Itza second. We did the open air cenote first and then Chichen Itza and then the second cenote with lunch so lunch was a tad late (3pm) but we brought snacks that helped us get through. The crepes we had in the town square were amazing. We only had about 30minutes to walk around. wished it had been longer. did not get to go into any shops. The bus was comfortable. This was a great value overall for the price of this tour and what came with it!!

It was a bit long for the time we got to actually spend at the ruins, but our tour guide was very knowledgeable and informative.

Great tour! All the guides were very friendly and we felt comfortable and safe throughout the tour. The tour took us to chichen itza, cenote suy tun and ik kil. It was great to see chichen itza and 2 very different and beautiful cenotes all in one day. We had enough time to learn about the culture, take pics, and swim in the cenotes. It was really fun! Book this tour if you want to have a good time.
