What To Expect

Meet your guide outside the dome's entrance and bypass the often-long queue with your skip-the-line ticket.

As you climb the 463 steps to the top of the cathedral's dome, learn about how the construction of the egg-shaped Cupola wasn't done until long after the cathedral was otherwise finished—leaving a gaping hole in the building for decades. Filippo Brunelleschi's revolutionary design for the dome within a dome is still widely revered among architects and was the largest dome in the world at the time it was completed.

From inside the dome, enjoy a wonderful view of parts of the cathedral you don't normally get to see—including Vasari's 'Last Judgement' frescoes—as well as spectacular views outside the cathedral overlooking the historic city of Florence.

Climb back down from the dome with your guide for a brief guided visit inside the cathedral itself to conclude the tour. Admire its Gothic interior, designed by Arnolfo di Cambio and Brunelleschi.

Please note: Most of the time on this tour is spent in the dome with a brief tour of the cathedral at the end. Your ticket allows you to stay in the cathedral after the tour concludes, and also gives you entry to the Baptistery and the Museo dell'Opera del Duomo (no skip-the-line access for those). There is no skip-the-line entry for the Duomo from November 1-March 31.

The guided part of the tour was cancelled. We had another tour in Barcelona cancelled as well. We did get into the Duomo by skipping the line which added the one star.

Misleading....

I'm not sure what I all paid for here. But what we got was a "guide" that basically followed us up the stairs to the top of the Duomo, and told a few facts along the way. Then we walked back down and that was it. $75/pp seems a bit high for just that. Apparently this ticket also gets you entry into the Cathedral, Baptistry, and museum?? Nothing was said to us about that, would have been nice if the guide had mentioned that. We definitely did not get the value for our money on this one.

Due to the nature of the structure, especially the long and narrow staircase leading to the top of the dome, guides primarily provide explanations while still on the ground floor. Our guides, who are certified and have many years of experience, not only describe, narrate, and inform about what is interesting on the ground floor but also introduce what will be seen during the ascent of the nearly 500 steps, where attention is generally lower. During the climb, the museum's direction does not allow for extended stops for information, only brief pauses to regain energy to ensure a continuous flow towards the top. We apologize if the guide did not repeat what was included in your ticket; unless specifically requested, they are more inclined to provide information about the artworks and points of interest, given the limited time we have in such historically rich and art-filled places. We will remind our guides to spend an extra two minutes to review what is included in your reservation. We hope to have you with us again for another experience in discovering Florence! Great walk to the top!

We enjoyed this tour very much, as well as our guide! The walk to the top was long and may be a bit uncomfortable for those that might be claustrophobic , however the views made it worth it! Our guide was lovely and informative - we would recommend to friends!

Disappointing and Frustrating.

It was very frustrating to learn that this in fact was not a skip the line tour and we had to wait in several lines (to pick up the tickets, to go up to the top, and to go into the main church). There was no perk for us to buy this ticket and could have saved money by doing the other one.

The ascent of the spectacular Duomo!

After being in Florence for a week, we did the Duomo Tour and climbed the 500 steps to the top for the most spectacular view of the city. From every vantage point in Florence you see the lovely Duomo so it was only fitting on our last day to climb to the top of it. The history of Brunelleschi building it was very interesting!
