After morning pickup from select Mexico City hotels, kick off your 5-hour tour in Coyoacán, designated by the Secretary of Tourism as a Barrio Magico (Magic Neighborhood). Follow your knowledgeable guide along tree-lined cobblestone streets lined with 16th-century mansions. Stop by San Juan Bautista church, said to be one of Mexico’s most attractive churches, and admire its paintings and chapels.

Continue to Coyoacán’s highlight attraction: the Frida Kahlo Museum, aka La Casa Azul (‘the Blue House’). See firsthand where Frida Kahlo was born and later lived with her husband, the muralist Diego Rivera. Exhibits include her personal possessions and some of her iconic artwork, which give you further insight into the vibrant life of this world-renowned artist.

Spend about an hour at the Frida Kahlo Museum, and then head south of Mexico City to Xochimilco, an agricultural network of waterway channels where many of the city’s flowers are grown. Board a colorful, flat-bottomed boat called a trajinera with your guide, and take a leisurely sail. Pass man-made islands with floating reed mats loaded with soil used as gardens, called chinampas, which was developed during Aztec times to get around the lack of arable farmland. Today, these gardens form an ecological reserve awarded UNESCO World Heritage status.

After about an hour at Xochimilco, your Mexico City tour ends with drop-off at your departure point.

The value is in the transportation
      suzane_o, Oct 2023
The museum and Coayacan was nice and more memorable. The value of the tour guide was really just the transportation. Xoxhimilico wasn’t very touristy and we weren’t given much history. We had to ask the guide questions. We did not go deep into the fumes at all (maybe 500 meters). It was more about having the locals sell their food and drinks so we could eat on the boat. It was interesting and if you go in knowing it’s more about having lunch than you will be happy.

At Mexitours our greatest interest is the satisfaction of the clients who kindly hire our services. We really appreciate your good comments about our service that seemed perfect for you and it worth what you´ve paid. The reality is that no apology or comment will be enough, but we thank you the comment about including food service during the mexican boat ride in order to enjoy more your visit to Xochimilco. It is important to mention that there isn´t scheduled any time for lunch in this tour. However it is essential to highlight that in Mexitours, our staff involved is committed to offering a careful and quality service, based on respect and attention as always. We´ll keep working on it.

we were so excited for this excursion, we got picked up our hotel. we were taken to a meeting point. we were taken to Xochimilco and everything was going fine until the tour guide started smoking.... then he took us to a plant station d that no one wanted to go and were there for a long time. from there we returned to the van and drove us to Coyoacan. The tour guide slept the whole time. once in coyacan he took us to the church then told us to meet at a certain hour by Frida Kahlos blue house. We had tickets for the Frida Kahlos blue house tour. He said he did not have to drive us there that we should walk. we did not know where to go. we had to ask for directions. over all the tour guide made our excursion a very negative one. we are very disappointed.
      Response from Host, Jun 2023
Dear Norma, We offer you our most sincere apologies for what happened and the bad experience you had to live. We inform you in advance that smoking is strictly prohibited inside our vehicle units as well as during the tours we offer. We are taking action and we will talk with the guide who led that tour to verify what happened. Thank you for your kind comments which we know will help us offer better services in the future. Sincerely.
      Nice guide
      Lauren_V, Feb 2023
Our guide, Eduardo, was fabulous. He was very attentive and answered all our questions. We did everything that the tour advertised. Xochimilco is better done on a weekend or with a large group to get the full experience (we went on a Tuesday). Our only disappointment was the timing of the trip. We booked a 9AM tour & were informed the night before that it had unexpectedly changed to noon. Luckily, we had flexibility in our plans, but it’s not a great practice to change things like that at the last minute.
      Response from Host, Feb 2023
Dear Lauren We appreciate your comments and recognition to Guide Eduardo. We regret the inconvenience presented. The Frida Museum is one of the most demanding museums in Mexico City and access is only by reservation and repurchase of tickets; according to the reservation time, we modify tour time as soon as we have bookings for them. We proceed to buy the tickets, so it is unfortunately out of our control; we apologize for that. We hope to have you with us again for an unforgettable experience.
      Just Uber there
      GrandTour21653696447, Jan 2019
We were told we were to be picked up at 8:45. We were picked up at 9:15 and the first ones to be picked up! By the time we finally got everyone and to the Frida Kahlo Museum it was noon!! We were supposed to get there at 10 am. 2 hours wasted just sitting in the bus. It would have been easier to just Uber there without the tour. The only benefit was that we could skip the massive entry line as the tour purchased our tickets ahead of time. Xochimilco was a giant tourist trap and not worth the time. Just sitting on a boat in super crowded canals with people trying to sell things to you every second. Additionally, the tour guide had us stop at various locations not listed on the tour—such as University City— and just look from inside the bus! The tour was supposed to end at 1 pm. I arrived back at my hotel at 6 pm! Luckily I didn’t have anything else scheduled for the day, but I definitely felt like my day could have been spent better.

There were three parts to this tour...
      Deborah T, Jan 2018
There were three parts to this tour - definitely not all equal in the excitement satisfaction stakes! The first , Coyoacan, was the least interesting, we were left to our own devices to wander around a church, a park and the general area. It was too early for the Saturday to be open so we settled for a hot chocolate at one of the many upmarket cafes. We had been advised by our guide that Mexicans considered it a privilege to reside in Coyoacan as it still provided a feeling of the real Mexico. Frida Kahlo's home, now a shrine/ museum to her memory was next. As we had tickets already we were able to join the short queue - only about a 10 minute wait to enter. The other queue was considerably longer. Our guide did not accompany us which was not an issue as most info was in both Spanish and English. Be aware that you must pay an extra 30 pesos if you want to take photos inside the house - outside in the garden is free. There is a small cafe, clean toilet amenities and a disappointing souvenir shop. The house itself is a fascinating tribute to an amazing woman for her time and personal suffering. The final leg of the tour was an invigorating experience onboard one of the many canal boats jostling for right of way on the narrow man made waterways of Xochimilco. Our guide did accompany us this time. A bucket of cold drinks including a variety of beers was on offer under the table. They were not offered to us, we had to ask and it was not until the end that we were asked to pay 30 pesos a bottle - not a problem, except the vendor who was onboard all the time did not have change!! He also tried to sell us jewelry during the cruise. The boats are propelled by one pusher with a very long wooden pole. This should have made for a quiet trip - no motors- but that's not the idea. Families were out in force celebrating life! They bring their own food - we had none - and hire Mariachi bands - there were plenty, together creating a Mexican cacophony of sound! An exciting vibe all round. Our guide Miguel was very experienced and knowledgeable and happy to answer all our questions. He conducted our small group tour - 4 people- in both English and Spanish.

I would not recommend this tour nor would I recommend the local tour company operator, Mexitours. On the day of our trip, we were told by Mexitours to meet their driver in the hotel lobby promptly at 8:45AM. We were there and their driver did arrive at 8:50AM, but they did not have my name on their list of passengers to pick up. That was the beginning of the confusion. Then, we drove to many hotels all over Mexico City picking up other passengers. By the time we got to the central meeting point for all passengers and all excursions for the day, it was already about 9:25 or so. Then we were put on our tour bus for the Coyoacán, Xochimilco and Frida Kahlo Museum. We waited and waited and were given NO updates neither by the guide or the supervisor who was coordinating this entire fiasco. Then, all passengers were told to get off the bus because they needed our bus for another of their groups going to another destination. At this point it was about 9:45AM or so. So, there we all were standing out in the morning cold. Several people at this point needed to use a restroom, but Mexitours chosen meeting point for all their tours had no bathroom facility at all nor were there any local establishments with toilets that passengers could use. So, everybody was forced to stand out in the cold and just to suffer being unable to use a restroom. Finally, at about 10:00AM, we were all told to get on another bus, so we all did, and we waited about another 10 minutes, but just as we were getting ready to drive away, passengers noticed that the air conditioning located in the ceiling of the van was leaking water all over several passengers seated underneath. The driver ran off somewhere and came back with another employee of Mexitours with toilet paper and began to wipe up and dry off the water with toilet paper. At this point it was hilarious! So, once everything was dried, we finally departed the meeting point at about 10:20. Now, keep in mind we were told we would have an 8:45 pickup. So, we finally began our tour about an hours and 35 minutes late! These places are far away from the city center as well, so it took another hours just to get to destination number one. Once we arrived, it was all fine. The Friday Kahlo Museum is FANTASTIC and I would highly recommend it, but Xochimilco is a tourist trap and not worth the money or your time! Go see something else instead, but do manage to go see the Frida Kahlo Musuem by Uber which has been safe, clean, easy and hassle free. This way you will not have to go on a group tour. Also, the Frida Kahlo Museum requires tickets by appointment AHEAD of TIME. I hope you have found this helpful.

Our driver/guide Miguel was amazing! The trip was a nice half day and made it super easy to visit places that would've been a lot more work to get to on our own. The Frida house was incredible and the float down the canals in Xochimilco was so much fun with delicious food on board.
Our tour was operated by Mexitours...
      Laili G, Apr 2017
Our tour was operated by Mexitours. It says in the listings picks up from hotels in the Zona Rosa, that was a perk for us because it's where we were staying. They said we were out of range so we had to catch a cab to the meeting point, not a huge deal. But they were a half hour late, another couple waiting for a different Mexitour had been there for an hour and a half..not a great impression. The Frida museum was nice, and downtown Cayoacan is a cool area. But our guide did minimal guiding and instead really enjoyed telling sexist jokes about marriage. Xochimilco was the real disappointment. I love flowers so the idea of rafting through floating gardens sounded magical, it's not at all. It's essentially a booze cruise tourist trap. There are just wall to wall boats of tourists, bachelor parties, people selling souvenirs, food vendors. There were islands with plants but we didn't stop at any of them and you could barely see them for all the junk in our way. If you're looking to party on the water, this is totally your bag, but it's not what we wanted.

A wonderful tour, guide was charming, helpful and willing to answer many varied questions about Mexico City. Frida Kahlo museum exceeded expectations - well worth the trip, but a little crowded. Saw a wedding in Coyoacan and enjoyed the market in San Angel - it was the last day of our holiday - made an excellent end to the trip.

      sheila k, Oct 2015
The Frida Kahlo Museum is a must see in Mexico City and our guide Umberto was a fund of information about Frida, her life and times. The Coyoacan part of the tour was a mixture of drive-by and walking around a fascinating district, quite different from anything else in Mexico City with an opportunity to see the artists of today plying for business in a tree shaded square. The traffic back to downtown was horrendous but that's Mexico City.

Terrible! We were picked up late. The guide could not be heard at the back of the bus. When it became hot, we had to ask for the air conditioner and the bus would not run. The guide left us most of the time. We found a cab and left the tour.

Great tour. You'll walk around Coyoacán, then visit the Blue House. We didn't see the Diego Rivera-Anahuacalli Museum, but went to Xochimilco instead.

I did enjoy the tour and our guide was very nice..They combined us with an all day tour to the floating gardens..it was an experience and I didnt get to do what else I wanted in Mexico city because of the all day tour being substituted but all and all an enjoyable experience and one has to be flexible when you travel.

Love it! The family was so excited to see Frida's blue house, and a special treat we had enough time to stop by Diego Studio home (this is not part of the tour), we all paid the museum price to enter the studio. Wonderful tour.
