What To Expect

Coyoacán, National University, and Frida Kahlo Museum

After meeting your guide in downtown Mexico City, your full-day tour kicks off at Coyoacán, which dates back to pre-Hispanic times. Admire 16th-century mansions along cobblestone streets, and learn about one of Mexico City’s oldest neighborhoods from your informative guide. Today, the area has blossomed into a cultural nexus for intellectuals and artists.

Visit the National Autonomous University of Mexico, built-in 1551, and check out the UNESCO-listed Central Campus, a collaboration that came together in 1952 involving more than 60 engineers, architects, and artists, including muralists Diego Rivera and Juan O´Gorman.

Next, head over to Jardín Hidalgo, and enjoy a lunch break here (own expense) in the garden area boasting restaurants, studios, and craft stalls. Next, enter the church of San Juan Bautista with your guide and admire the paintings inside.

A fan of Frida Kahlo? At Coyoacán Casa Azul (Blue House), or the Frida Kahlo Museum, immerse yourself in the tumultuous life and iconic artwork of this beloved artist. It is here where Kahlo lived and loved with her husband, Diego Rivera. Enjoy an hour of free time in the museum.

Xochimilco

Your Mexico City sightseeing adventure continues at Xochimilco, located 17 miles (28 km) south of Mexico City, a waterway network of floating gardens of flowers. An ecological reserve and a UNESCO World Heritage site, this valley was a lake during Aztec times. To get around the scarcity of arable soil back then, the people developed chinampas, islands with floating reed mats with soil.

Spend about an hour drifting peacefully along the canals and admiring the chinampas from your colorful, flat-bottomed boat called a trajinera. Hear festive music from other boats, occupied by families and visitors celebrating weddings, birthdays and other happy occasions.

As your boatman moves the vessel along by pulling a pole through the water, pass other painted vessels transporting passengers and check out boat-vendors selling fresh food. Enjoy an array of dishes and drinks for purchase, including roasted corn, mole, mixiote (barbequed meat), tacos, carnitas, quesadillas, pulque (milk-colored alcoholic beverage) and micheladas (Mexican beer-based cocktail).

Your day tour ends with drop-off back at the central meeting points.

The beauty of Mexico
Ralph_G, Apr 2024
What a beautiful and historic tour to begin our week in Mexico City. Coyoacan and the Frida Kahlo Museum were exciting to see and experience. Our guide Letty did a marvelous job of sharing her knowledge of culture and history throughout the tour. Xochmilco was so fascinating with all the colorful boats, vendors and musicians all floating up and down the canals. A once in a lifetime adventure.
Response from Host, Apr 2024
Dear Ralph_G, Thank you for your review! We're glad to hear that you had such a fantastic time exploring the beauty and history of Mexico City with us. Best regards from the entire quality team at Amigo Tours! Chelsea
Emmanuel, the tour guide...
Nicodemus_O, Apr 2024
Emmanuel, the tour guide and Nicanor, the bus driver provided professional services during the trip. Emmanuel was very accommodating to questions and patient with showing everyone the sites. Nicanor was also a great driver keeping the passenger's comfort first. He drove carefully and slowly. The tour was done in a mix of English and Spanish with some translation in between.
Response from Host, Apr 2024
Dear Nicodemus_O, Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us! We're glad to hear that Emmanuel and Nicanor provided you with professional and exceptional service during your trip. Best regards from the entire quality team at Amigo Tours, Chelsea
Too many people
PATRICIA_B, Apr 2024
This was the least memorable part of everything that we did. There were far to many people in attendance for our taste. The Frida Kahlo Museum was lovely but there was no guide. Coyoacan is a great area to walk around but we could have done that on our own. If I never went to Xochimilco we would not have felt like we missed anything. Having a ride to each location was helpful and the price for that was appropriate, hence three stars.
Response from Host, Apr 2024
Dear PATRICIA_B, Thank you for sharing your feedback with us. We're sorry to hear that your experience with us was not as memorable as you had hoped. Guides aren't allowed inside the museum due to its own rules and restrictions. We're glad to hear that you found the transportation arrangements helpful and that you found the pricing appropriate. We hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back in the future and provide you with a more satisfying experience. Best regards from the entire quality team at Amigo Tours. Chelsea
Fun, long day eye opening.
Sharbari_A, Apr 2024
Pros: good guides, comfortable bus, the Frida Kahlo museum was amazing. The canal ride was lovely. The silver shop that you visit very early on did not was not a hard sell. You could choose to buy things if you wanted to or not. The lunch that happened a bit late around three was a choice between a buffet and à la cart menu had a chosen pre-chosen restaurant. The buffet was delicious with many choices. It’s 285 pesos per person for buffet drinks or extra. I had a very tasty margarita. Cons: It is a very long day. Much time is spent sitting in unavoidable traffic. I felt we could’ve left out visiting the university. It added an unnecessary 30 minutes and pushed the lunch back. People were hungry. Overall, a good tour if not a great one.
Response from Host, Apr 2024
Dear Sharbari_A, Thank you so much for sharing your feedback with us! We're happy to hear that you enjoyed our tour guides, comfortable bus, and the amazing Frida Kahlo Museum. We apologize for any inconvenience caused by the length of the day and the unavoidable traffic. Thank you once again for choosing Amigo Tours. We hope to welcome you back on another adventure soon! 7:50am-6:30pm and you’ll get 2 hours of actual enjoyment.. don’t even do it.
Thor_L, Apr 2024
Ok so let’s start out with the fact that this tour has no itinerary posted and you’re interested in buying your tickets and transport to the Frida museum and the boats. So I contacted the provider and told them like hey there I’m not intrested in going to the meeting place as it’s 40 minutes away cabbing for us and we are right beside the museum… I simply asked if I could be provided with the time they would be at the museum and we would simply meet them there. They flat out refused in a very rude ways. Ok so let’s start the day then. At 6 friggen am to get ready for ya know 40 minutes to take a taxi and get to the meeting place. So I’ll give them this there was no “Mexican time” they were punctual and the bus was nice. First stop! A random friggen silver store? To watch a video about carving silver????? Ugh ok kinda a weird flex but greaaaaaat yes let’s start off by the classic tourist trap gift shop. Then we get moving after maybe idk 40 minutes. We get to coyocan at 10:30 they’re gonna give a tour of the area and history- we simply asked hey when’s the museum we will meet you there it’s at 11:45 and 12 (there were two groups of us) we were like great we will meet ya there. Because honestly we didn’t sign up for a history lesson we simply wanted to go on the boats. Ok so went the the Frida museum at 12 not gonna lie it was a little cringy how touristy it was and it was sold out days in advance but this was the only way to get a ticket but after being awake at 6 to finally get one thing we actually paid for by 12 was something else like that’s just stupid especially when we could of met them there. Ok so they get us back on the bus to show us the university and again another history lesson for another 40 minutes or so (if you like this sorta thing cool but legit I was just interested in the title of the add) then they take us to a buffet that’s 280 pesos per person. Ya we just went to the taco stand near by and had excellent tacos like very very good and was 135 for both of us. Then they took us to the boats for I’m not even joking 1 I kid you not 1 hour. Which the boats were awesome sauce! Cheap beers and mariachi! But anyways they wanted everyone back on the bus by 5:25 we just cabbed because I didn’t. Want to go to the meeting point AGAIN. Ok so that’s an hour away or so let’s say 6:30 you’re there by. So basically get ready for an 11 hour day where you get to actually do what you want to do for a total of 2 yes 2 whole hours. Just get the museum tickets in advance and Uber to the boats don’t do this tour straight up. They get two stars for being punctual and the fact they somehow have tickets to museum when it was sold out for like 4 days in advance. Tour guides were ok I guess but I was ina tude.
Response from Host, Apr 2024
Dear Thor_L, Thank you for taking the time to share your detailed feedback with us. We're sorry to hear about your experience with our tour and understand your frustrations regarding the itinerary and meeting point logistics. However, the itinerary is shown and available in the tour page, and it is necessary to check it before paying, when you buy our services, you are agreeing with the itinerary, we're sorry if it didn't meet your expectations. The reason why it wasn't possible to meet you directly at the museum is because of the logistics, sometimes there can be situations out of our hands or incidents that provoke changes in the schedule planned, that's why we couldn't assure you a specific meeting time at the museum. Regarding the silver store, it has an important cultural significance that we consider to be relevant to share as an introduction to the tour. The restaurant is optional, is just a suggestion, but all of our clients are free to eat wherever they prefer :). We appreciate your constructive criticism and will use it to enhance our services. We hope that despite this experience, you were able to enjoy some aspects of the tour, such as the punctuality and the opportunity to visit the Frida Kahlo Museum. Please accept our sincerest apologies for any inconvenience caused, and we hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back on a future tour to provide you with a more positive experience. Kind regards from the entire quality team at Amigo Tours. Chelsea ;)

A great day trip in Mexico City
Glenn_M, Apr 2024
Frida Karlo house was excellent and Cocoyan was a really great suberb. Leonardo was a great guide and very informative. University was interesting to see and Xochimilko was a surprise with so many brightly coloured boats.
Response from Host, Apr 2024
Dear Glenn_M, We're happy to hear that you had such a fantastic experience with Amigo Tours! The Frida Kahlo House is indeed a gem, offering a glimpse into the life and artistry of this iconic artist. Thank you for choosing Amigo Tours for your adventure, and we hope to welcome you back soon for more memorable experiences! Kind regards from the entire quality team at Amigo Tours. Chelsea
Good tour lots to see but a bit long.
Susan_C, Apr 2024
The guides on this tour were great and patient! It was a big group to haul around! We all met at a coffee shop and boarded a big bus. We saw lots of sights. The main reason we booked the tour was for the Freida museum. It was the last thing on the 10 hour tour and unfortunately we did not get enough time there. The tour was just too long. If your main goal is to see the Freida museum either do it on your own or book a shorter tour. Everyone was wiped out by the end of the day. Overall though we enjoyed most of tour it does encompass quite a few landmarks, art, and interesting things to do.
Response from Host, Apr 2024
Dear Susan_C, Thank you for your detailed feedback! We're pleased to hear that you found our guides great and patient, and that you enjoyed the sights during your tour with us. Kind regards from the entire quality team at Amigo Tours. Chelsea
Poor communication
Jennifer_A, Apr 2024
Unfortunately, our bus was in an accident on our way to Xochimilco. We were not informed of this at the time. We were just told 5 more minutes, 10 more minutes after 2 hours of waiting on the bus with no communication or updates. After waiting the bus for 2 hours I was yelled at very rudely by the tour guide Fernanda because she said she didn’t want anyone getting off the bus. I under that situations like these happen by I feel it was handled very poorly.
Response from Host, Apr 2024
Dear Jennifer_A, Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. We deeply regret the inconvenience you faced during your tour to Xochimilco. We understand how frustrating it must have been to wait for so long without receiving proper updates. We sincerely apologize for the lack of communication and for any rudeness displayed by our tour guide. This does not reflect the level of service we strive to provide at Amigo Tours. We will address this issue internally to ensure it does not happen again in the future. We value your feedback as it helps us improve our services. Despite this setback, we hope you were able to enjoy the rest of your time in Mexico City. Best regards from the entire quality team at Amigo Tours, Chelsea
Save your money and catch an uber
Monica_M, Apr 2024
While the guide and driver were great, this is probably one of the worst tours I have ever done (and I would like to make it clear the following review is in no way a reflection on them). Every part of the tour seemed to be designed to take your money. The unadvertised stop at the silver shop added nothing to the tour. I would have preferred to have missed this stop and either start the tour later in the day or spend more time in Coyoacán. The stop in Coyoacán was not long enough to explore the area. I enjoyed the Frida Kahlo Museum, however I now realise I would have been better off just buying a ticket myself and getting an uber there. The stop at the university wasn't anything special. Just looked at some murals for a few minutes before moving on. The restaurant was too late in the day and overpriced (we ended up leaving and going down the road to a pastry shop). The Xochimilco was fine, it might have been better on the weekend when it is busier so the atmosphere would have been better. It also seemed like a poorly designed tour as we seemed to go back and forth through the traffic, creating unnecessary delays in traffic.
Response from Host, Apr 2024
Dear Monica_M, Thank you for your feedback, we apologize if the tour wasn't what you expected. The silver store is part of the tour since it has a cultural significance and importance. The stop at UNAM is part of the itinerary and the purpose is to show the murals that are considered world heritage by UNESCO. All of our clients are free to eat wherever they prefer, the restaurant is just an option ;). Regarding Xochimilco, we agree that on weekends it is way more crowded :), we also offer tours on the weekend! We're sorry for any inconvenience occurred and we hope to have another opportunity to provide you with a better experience. Warm greetings from the entire quality team at Amigo Tours, Chelsea
Not sure
Teresa_F, Apr 2024
Timing and schedule is very important. Looks like two similar tours were combined in one. That combination affected what I have to do after the purchased programmed tour. Additionally both representative - not saying names, because one said if leaving unsatisfactory review, do not mention their names. One, lack of empathy especially with the Spanish speakers group. The other, not to good explaining, needs to learn little bit more of what was talking and better how to express. The tour itself is good however, choose the correct personnel.
Response from Host, Apr 2024
Dear Teresa_F, Thank you for sharing your experience with us. Your feedback regarding our representatives is also duly noted, and we apologize for any inconvenience caused. We strive to provide excellent service and will address these concerns with our team to ensure a better experience for our guests in the future. We appreciate your positive comments about the tour itself and assure you that we will take your feedback seriously to improve our services. Kind regards from the entire quality team at Amigo Tours. Chelsea
Diverse and fun experience
John_D, Apr 2024
A fantastic way to explore unique parts of the city. We had a chance to learn more of the backstory of Frida Kahlo, learn the history of the murals at the university and enjoy a nice boat ride with Mariachi in Xochimilco. Lily was our English speaking tour guide and did a fantastic job.
Response from Host, Apr 2024
Dear John_D, Thank you so much for sharing your experience with us! It sounds like you had a wonderful time exploring the city with Lily. We're glad to hear that she provided such an insightful tour, offering you a deeper understanding of Frida Kahlo's backstory and the historical significance of the murals at the university. It was a pleasure having you on our tour, and we hope to welcome you back soon for more unforgettable adventures! Kind regards from the entire quality team at Amigo Tours. Chelsea
Disappointing, stay away
Saloni_M, Apr 2024
Would not recommend this trip to anyone. We started the trip with an hour-long stop at some silver store that they obviously leave people at for commissions to the tour company on any sales from the tourists. After that, you're taken to Coyoacan, and that's fine and we get time to explore and eat, but they FALSELY state that the museum can be done in an hour, which is crazy because it's vast, and definitely much more interesting than the silver store they forced us to stop at for an hour. Also, because my friends and I were closer to the midpoint of the line, we weren't even allowed the full hour at the museum because they started countdown since the first person entered. So they gave us a half hour, which is crazy again considering the depth of detail of the entire museum if you actually are interested in Frida Kahlo's art and life. Also, the tour guides didn't give us their numbers properly and we were only contacted by the tour operators after the fact to tell us the bus had to leave while we weren't even done with the museum. We ended up being left by the group and didn't even avail the Xochimilco portion of the tour, plus we were out on transportation. We asked the tour operators to let us know when the bus would leave Xochi in case we would be able to meet there and depart with the bus, and got wishy washy answers like the tour guides can't tell us exactly when or they don't know before I finally firmly requested an answer and got one. Didn't even bother to meet up after that because of the behaviour and poor planning of this tour group. Overall, horrible experience going through this group, and they don't do justice to the museum and presumably the boats at all.
Response from Host, Apr 2024
Dear Saloni_M, Thank you for your feedback, we're sorry to hear that you didn't enjoy the experience. We include the silver store because of its cultural significance and importance; we do not state that the museum can be done in 1 hour, we state that we only have 1 hour to explore the museum, our schedule is organized in the best way possible to ensure that the itinerary is fully completed. We apologize for the inconveniences occurred; we hope you give us another opportunity to provide you with a better experience. Warm greetings from the entire quality team at Amigo Tours, Chelsea
Art, extortion, and heatstroke!
Judy_M, Apr 2024
The guides and driver were lovely. However, our bus was rammed off the road and we were blocked from moving for three hours in the blazing heat with substandard air conditioning and a non functioning bathroom. Obviously it’s not viator’s fault that we fell victim to a crime, but they did nothing to solve it. We were kept completely in the dark (except for the scorching sunlight). We were told we would be moving in “20 minutes” several dozen times and when I contacted them via the app they were utterly unhelpful. Our guides salvaged the end of our excursion and it was not their fault, but this was a really horrific experience. Frida’s house and the boats were nice tho.
Response from Host, Apr 2024
Dear Judy_M, We're truly sorry to hear about your experience. We strive to provide the best experiences possible, so we sincerely apologize for this situation. We appreciate your understanding of these kind of incidents that are out of our hands, but thankfully our team is prepared for situations like these, and the tour was able to continue despite it. We also tried to partially compensate all our clients of this specific tour by paying for your drinks and mariachi in Xochimilco. It's nice to know that this chaos didn't stop you from enjoying Frida's house and the trajineras! We hope to welcome you back for another tour and for a better experience! Thank you for your patience. Warm greetings from the entire quality team at Amigo Tours, Chelsea
Well planned itinerary and a great time!
Chris_C, Apr 2024
Outstanding itinerary. The logistics behind seeing each place was well thought out and planned well. From being picked up at the centralized cafe (albeit super early) to navigating through the traffic of the city everything was planned well. My particular trip had unruly children that literally ruined the experience but that is not due to this stellar work of the team.
Response from Host, Apr 2024
Dear Chris_C, We're thrilled to hear that you enjoyed the itinerary and found our logistics well-planned! We understand that traveling can sometimes come with unexpected challenges, and we're sorry to hear that unruly children impacted your experience. We hope to welcome you back on another adventure soon! Kind regards from the entire quality team at Amigo Tours. Chelsea
My friend and I enjoyed...
Edgar_M, Apr 2024
My friend and I enjoyed this tour to Xochimilco and Coyoacan so much! The tour guide, Cristian, was very nice, open to questions and all the information shared by him was accurate. I was not very sure about the UNAM murals, but turned out they are really interesting and were very well explained by the Guide. Xochimilco trajineras as well as Coyoacan was awesome! We didn´t go during this tour to Frida´s Museum, however, if you like to see museums in detail, better do it on your own as we did to have more time to enjoy the museum.
Response from Host, Apr 2024
Dear Edgar_M, Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience with us! We're glad to hear that you and your friend enjoyed the Xochimilco and Coyoacan tour with Cristian. We hope to have the pleasure of welcoming you back for another adventure soon! Kind regards from the entire quality team at Amigo Tours. Chelsea
Awesome experience with A+ guide
Diego_R, Apr 2024
Ruben was an excellent host - very passionate and knowledgeable! Our entire group was very impressed by his tour. The rest of the crew was great as well. We’ve done a similar tour with another company, and this bus driver was much better.
Response from Host, Apr 2024
Dear Diego_R, Thank you so much for your kind words! We're glad to hear that Ruben and the rest of our team made your tour with us a memorable one. We're glad you noticed the difference and chose to travel with us. We hope to welcome you back on another adventure soon! Kind regards from the entire quality team at Amigo Tours, Chelsea
A Great Time!
Hend_O, Apr 2024
Great day learning the history of Coyoacan and Xochimilco areas, and of course experiencing the Frida Kahlo museum. Lunch was also excellent. A great day! Make a request for crazy mariachi on the boat portion of the trip; you won't be disappointed! LOL

Fantastic tour
Wendy_B, Apr 2024
This was a fantastic guided tour. The tour guide Ruben was very knowledgeable and had a true passion for educating. We loved every part of this tour from the trip to the silversmith to the City University to the trainers in Xochimilco to our final destination of Coyoacan and the Frida Kahlo Museum. My husband sprained his ankle on some uneven ground, and all staff were very quick to help him get comfortable. Recommend this tour 100%.
Response from Host, Apr 2024
Dear Wendy_B, We're delighted to hear about your fantastic experience with us and that Ruben's passion and knowledge made your journey even more enjoyable. It's great to know that our team was quick to assist your husband when he sprained his ankle. We're pleasured to have earned your recommendation and look forward to welcoming you back on another adventure soon! Kind regards from the entire quality team at Amigo Tours. Chelsea
Only reason this tour is...
Fayaz_S, Apr 2024
Only reason this tour is worth it if you can't get tickets to Frida museum. Otherwise I would recommend doing on your own and private guide , cost will be same or cheaper. The bus wasted lots and lots of time, we only had an hour in museum , they added extra stop of university that was a waste of time , they didn't explain the itinerary at all and stopped for lunch at 3pm while starting time was 750am so we were starving. The restaurant they stopped at had crappy Mexican buffet while seafood menu order was good (we ordered from menu). Boat rides were fun but could have rented private boat with mariachi and drinks - I would not recommend this and would recommend either going on a private tour if you can find Frida museum tickets or doing it on your own.
Response from Host, Apr 2024
Dear Fayaz_S, Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback, we are sorry this tour didn't meet you expectations. The stop on the University is specified in the description of the tour as Ciudad Universitaria, you can see it even before you book. Also, the restaurant is just a suggested place, you can decide to eat elsewhere. We hope you learnt something of the visited sites and we are glad that you enjoyed the visit to the Museum. Kind regards form the team at Amigo Tours, Lorena.
