A great way to see Milan in a short time!
Only had 1 day in Milan, and this was a great way to spend the second half of it! Our guide grew up in Milan, So he knew anything you could ask about the city, and being able to visit the 4 main stops is incredible. It doesn't end at the same place as it started, but the description does say that, and our guide even made sure to tell us before we left (as well as giving us all of the options to get back to where we needed to go). Smooth check in, and we had a great time!

Frequently Asked Questions
People Also Ask
Q:What is Teatro alla Scala famous for?
A:Milan’s Teatro alla Scala is famous for being one of the most prolific opera houses in the world. Built in 1778, its stone facade belies the majesty inside, where dozens of world premieres—including most of Verdi’s work—have been showcased to the masses. Any opera singer or ballet dancer of renown has likely performed here.
Q:Is Teatro alla Scala worth it?
A:Yes, if you appreciate theatre, opera, dance, architecture, or history, a visit to Milan’s Teatro alla Scala is worth it—it’s one of the city’s most beloved landmarks. This opera house has brought music and dance to Italy (and beyond) for more than 200 years, and it remains a juggernaut of beauty, art, and entertainment.
Q:Can I wear jeans to La Scala?
A:Men can wear dark jeans if they’re in the cheaper seats in the gallery—aka the loggione. Up here in the top two rings of the opera house, men can be less formal, with dark jeans or slacks and dress shirts. Women have a less detailed dress code and are simply required to “dress for the occasion.”
Q:Can you go inside La Scala?
A:If you have tickets to a show, yes, naturally. Otherwise, Teatro alla Scala offers regular public tours outside of performances in English, Italian, and French—they’re an hour long and include a visit to the onsite museum. Unfortunately, tours are not wheelchair-accessible or suitable for those with walking issues and are unsuitable for children under 12.
Q:Can you visit La Scala without a tour?
A:No, you can’t visit Teatro alla Scala without a tour or a ticket to a performance. You can learn all about the landmark at the onsite museum, which offers free audioguides for those who’ve brought their smartphones. It also has plenty of memorabilia and artifacts to satisfy any opera lover.
Q:Can you wear sneakers to La Scala?
A:You probably won’t be asked to leave if you wear sneakers to La Scala, but you’ll definitely attract negative attention. Even those in the cheaper seats—where the dress code is more informal—will wear evening wear. That means trousers, jackets, and dress shoes for men; dresses and heels for women.
