A Fabulous Day

A group of 7 of us were heading on a cruise out of Amsterdam, but were landing early in the morning of the day before the cruise departed and we didn't want to lose a whole day sitting in a hotel room. We are quite a diverse group with a broad range of interests. We are all well-travelled; some more than others. So, when I went looking for a tour, a "customizable" tour caught my interest. I read the advertisement; I read the descriptions: I read the reviews. I was impressed. When I discussed with my friends what we might request of our tour guide as he customizes our tour, I got a broad range of suggestions, requests and lots of I don't know.... I just want to really enjoy the day. Well, we got all that we asked for, thought of, dreamed of and then some. Niels is an excellent tour guide. He is knowledgeable about a lot of topics from the politics driving the impressive growth of the Netherlands, the social fabric of individual villages and communities, the history of massive engineering feats, the policies created to encourage the placement and development of the people to meet over-arching goals and the outcomes! So, even when we were driving back to our hotel at the end of the day, we were learning from him. Niels was attentive to our needs, seeded questions to get us thinking, and ensured that we all could see, hear and understand demonstrations shown to us We asked to be shown what life was like for the rural folks outside of Amsterdam. We wanted to see small unique villages. We wanted great local food, not once, but twice during our tour. And finally, we wanted to be back at our hotel to get a great night's sleep and be ready to get on our cruise ship the next day. He did all of that for us. I hope if Niels ever does decide to come to Canada that he gets in touch with me so we can try to be 1/2 the hosts to him that he was to us. I would highly recommend indulging in an amazing experience by signing up for this tour.

It was a very nice day. We were able to visit all of the places we wanted to and had a lovely time at lunch in Deventer. The Kroeler Mueller museum was a nice addition to our tour of various Dutch institutions. Our guide was helpful and we enjoyed nthe day with him.

A waste of money

I’ve hesitated to write this review because our driver was such a nice person, but people around me have urged me to write. We paid almost $1000 for a car and guide to visit the Mauritshuis, Delft and Keukenhof. At the start of the trip, I made it clear that I was very interested in all the details about the Netherlands: geography, history, politics, etc. Unfortunately, all we got was a car and driver. Unless I asked a specific question, our so-called “guide” didn’t offer any information. The very reason I often hire a private guide is to have a better, fuller tourist experience than I’d get sitting in a bus. Perhaps it is the policy of Viator to hire people who can only provide minimal information. That has not been my experience with other companies (“Tours by Locals”, for example) or in other countries.

Amazing family day around Amsterdam!

This was the highlight of our time in Amsterdam!! Our guide did such a great job tailoring a tour to our family of 5, we have three boys 7,13,16. We started at a dairy farm that also makes wooden shoes. We got to see how the shoes were made and then how they make their Gouda. Also got to sample a bunch of flavors, so delicious, and finished with a stroll through the barn to visit the cows, including a new born calf. We then visited a pumping station, amazing for any engineers! Then lunch at a local restaurant, so delicious!! Finally we drove to a windmill. That was so fun for everyone! Climbing up to the top and also seeing how people lived in them was so intriguing to us all. Finished it off with some drinks at a spot on the same spot as the windmill. Would 100% recommend and even do this tour again!

Our group of 9 had a great day trip out of Amsterdam. We went to a family run dairy farm to see how cheese is made & wooden clogs as well, then to Edam for a great tour & a wonderful lunch. Also we visited beemster & saw the windmills. Neils was a fantastic guide! He was great answering all our questions & we learned a lot about the Netherlands. I highly recommend this tour & Neils as a guide!

Stefka is amazing! We’re a family of two adults and three kiddos (10/10/7) and she made sure the kids stayed engaged the entire time. They loved the cow farm, visiting the windmill, lunch at the small restaurant nearby, our town visit to Edam, and visit to the beach (for coffee). We were visiting Amsterdam for five days and this was my favorite day (all days were good, but Stefka really made this special). The two young ladies in the restaurant near the windmill tour took the time to write a quick “Happy Birthday” note on my kids’ apple pie desserts - so awesome! Anyone on the fence about booking this, please just do it. Stefka is very pleasant, talks just the right amount, and takes you to where the locals are (which is what we wanted). Spending the day outside Amsterdam was so important for us as we got to see a portion of the country that we feel isn’t visited enough by tourists.

A wonderful trip worth every penny! Stefka was a fantastic guide who helped to customize the itinerary to our interests so we got the insider experience. The pace of the trip was excellent with enough time to explore without being rushed; the lunch was in a cosy restaurant with enough options and we tried some Dutch dishes. Stefka was well prepared and answered all our questions even though some topics were quite specialized. Overall, an excellent trip! For reference, it was a trip for 3 adults and we frequently book private tours while on vacation.

This experience was wonderful. Stefka contacted us before we arrived in Amsterdam to find out what we wanted to do. We were going to a small village to see our great grandmother's house that is part of a small museum. Stefka researched the place and the museum for us. She picked us up on time at our hotel and during the drive she provided information on where we were and features such as the improvements in a dam project. She is personable and conversations were easy and informative. When we arrived she translated the available information for us, helped us to find information about our family and was kind and never overbearing. We went to a small cafe for lunch and with Stefka's help, discovered that the proprietor was actually a second cousin. She and my sister found some books in a back room and she helped us determine my great grandmother's first name. We stopped at a grocery on the way back and got the best Dutch cookies at her recommendation that we enjoyed all during our trip. By using this service, my husband avoided driving and could enjoy the trip and the countryside. After we parted, Stefka even sent us a recipe for a dessert we enjoyed during the trip. We can't recommend her enough. This service was worth every penny!!

Hans took really good care of us. He arrived early and was very thorough and professional. Not only did we get to see all we had asked to see but Hans even threw in a surprise! Worth waiting for stable internet to review OR Tulips - Giethoorn - Waitress with questions

After our day with Caspar we didn't have a good internet connection. Because this day was so great - it was worth waiting until I could connect to review our day. We spent a simply marvelous day with Caspar. He picked us up and within blocks we were busy swapping stories. Our first stop was in the tulip fields outside of Amsterdam. Caspar checked with the farmer and soon we were walking the fields, chatting with the pickers, and debating our favorite color. The next stop was in Giethoorn where Caspar piloted our small boat through the scenic canals. Who knew it was possible to be that relaxed while still awake? We stopped for lunch at a spot frequented mostly by locals (Cafe de Otterskooi). It is possible the waitress is still wondering what was going on with the group that laughed through their lunch. To finish our day, we stopped at a working windmill. It will be a few weeks before we find out just how good the bread is made with freshly milled flour. It was a magical day.

Stefka was a great tour guide. We visited Delft, cheesemaking and wooden shoe making farm, and windmills. The farm owner's wife was from San Antonio, Texas which made it fun for us since we are from Texas. This was a great day. I am booking this tour again for our trip in July.

Had an amazing tour with the lovely Stefka..nothing was too much trouble. She came to pick up us from the cruise terminal which was super easy! Went to the Kinderdijk windmills and then onto Scheveningen for lunch along the beach which was a treat! and then onto Madurodam miniature world and last stop at a dairy farm to see how they make cheese,clogs and of course a bit of shopping. And were dropped off in plenty of time for the cruise departure. I highly recommend doing a tour with Stefka..whos very knowledgable and super friendly. Thanks again for a lovely day!

We did a custom tour to Wageningen where our family immigrated from in 1660! Casper our friendly tour guide picked us up at our hotel and drive us to Wageningen. There we meet a delightful lady that was a member of the local historical group. She toured us around the "Old Town"! Best trip ever!!
