What To Expect

Meet your guide at a central meeting point for an early departure, then travel to Montserrat Monastery, just northwest of Barcelona. Upon arrival at the monastery, visit the Museum of Montserrat, whose collections include art and artifacts from the monastery’s long history.

See paintings from the 13th through the 18th centuries, including works by El Greco, Caravaggio, and Berruguete. The tour of Montserrat Monastery also includes a liqueur tasting—like many European monasteries, Monserrat once produced a distinctive herbal liqueur. Following your time at Montserrat Monastery, make the return trip to Barcelona, where you’ll have free time for lunch.

After lunch, meet back to visit the Basilica of the Sagrada Familia, the magnificent cathedral that Antoni Gaudi designed with a characteristic blend of Gothic and Art Nouveau Styles. Explore the outside and inside of the cathedral, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and learn about the symbolism that’s woven into the building’s design. This full-day tour concludes with drop-off at the original departure point.

Do not take the Montserrat Monastery and Sagrada Familia Tour
Lynne_G, Aug 2022
The guide for Montserrat Monastery was excellent and enjoyed the tour. What Viator doesn't tell you is the monastery tour starts at 8am, you see the monastery and then you are dropped off around 12ish and the Sagrada tour doesn't start until 3:30 so you need to figure out how to get to the next meeting place near the cathedral.... however the location they give that is a bar doesn't exist, the guide who we found after 39 minutes didn't have any identification, we walked around trying to find anyone who could tell us where to meet the guide, would not recommend that tour

Dear Amig@ Lynne_G We are very sorry to hear that this experience was not ideal for you. We went out of our way to provide a great experience. We will find out what happened to our equipment. Dulce, Amigo Tours

Montserrat Monastery was beautiful. Great architecture, along with the murals, stained glass, and all that goes into these old cathedrals. The mountain views and walking paths provided an opportunity to appreciate the area and Monastery from multiple sites. We ended up passing on the Sagrada part of the tour.

This is a great combo. Monserrat was amazing. It had snowed the night before so the roads were difficult to deal with but the bus driver knew what he was doing and performed perfectly. The views are outstanding. Then the tour at Sagrada Familia was great. cut the line was key. Tour guide was excellent and knowledgeable. But it was a bi-lingual tour so it took twice as long as it needed to be. Also if people took the option to go up to the tower the rest of the group basically waited. They showed us some other stuff that was less interesting during this time but went over it again briefly for the others when they returned from the tower. I would recommend that they do the tower after the tour was done so if people wanted more free time they could have it or if they were done they could leave while the tower portion took place.

The trip to Montserrat was fine. Guide was nice and knowledgeable. However, having to wait over 2 hours between drop off back at Catalunya and then taking a metro to Sagrada was inconvenient. In addition, the Sagrada tour was given in both Spanish and English which meant one needed to stand through both explanations to get through the tour. The tour should be in only one language.

Maria_D, Feb 2018
The trip up to Montserrat was lovely. I would do this leg of the trip solo and not include it with La Sagrada Familia. We were up very early to drive up to Montserrat, which took about 1 hour. We arrived sometime around 7:45am-8:00am. The bus left to return at 11:45am so it really want a full day there at all. Only about 4 hours. The tour guide took us around and did a good job but we had no time to do any of the walks. Truth be told, it was too cold regardless. But if going during a warmer season, you may want this option. Then the tour of La Sagrada Familia didnt begin until 3:00pm, in which we had to provide our own transportation to get there and just meet the guide at the site. The tour was in Spanish and English, which meant that the tour guide had to say everything twice. So the time that he was touring in Spanish, we just stood around and waited. You are much better off buying tickets for an audio tour on your own. Definitely not worth it. They should have the tours in all languages but they should not be done at the same time. Very disappointing.

A wonderful surprise! Couldn't appreciate the early morning departure until seeing the sunrise atop Montserrat. Breathtaking views, very comfortable ride with knowledgeable and energetic guide. Sagrata Familia in it's vastness and age still contrast the traditional european cathedrals with modern art and architecture. A well run tour with private listening devises that allows everyone to hear the history even in the large crowds.

tour guide ok but have had better. did not feel that safe with bus driver for Montserrat. The guide for Sagrada started good very good But half way through got very very boring way too much technical could have cut it down somewhat to keep it interesting

Early start was good if you can get up. Finished most experiences by noon and back in town around 1.15pm. Our disappointment was that Sagrada Familia was closed at 2pm,and they cancelled last minute, so we missed getting into the place. Not really their fault but could have make more effort to contact us earlier. Would have done the Sagrada tour earlier if we had known. We had to miss it because we flew home the next morning, hopefully the promised refund is smooth.

It was a great tour covering Montserrat and Sagrada but with the only disadvantage of 2 1/2 hours break in between. I had a chance to feel the Monastery because of the early morning access as we turned up earlier than others. Our Montserrat guide was awesome, informative and helpful ... It would have been great if we had 1 1/2 more hour to visit the caves so that we would have 1-hour break rather than the 2 1/2 hours. Sagrada was a great building under construction. The trip guide tries his best to give most of the information about the history of the building and all. It's really a nice package for this price

The full day tour was amazing. Getting up early to travel to Montserrat was not good but being there before the crowds we were able to have a good look around and take lots of photos. The place itself is amazing. Would love to have gone on the funicular ralyway but it was only operating one way. The guide was very knowledgeable with a pleasant manner. We had a break back in town for lunch then went on the tour of Sagrada Família. What can I say? A wonderful place with lots of time to wonder around. Another guide met us and took us through the Basillica. This building certainly has the wow factor. Whatever I say cannot do it justice. Do yourself a favour, take the full day tour and be amazed,as we were.

Robert Mullins Y, Nov 2017
Tour meeting place was easy to find and very close to public transport. Tour guide was good and she gave a great run through of Montserrat. After Montserrat we had a break for lunch separately and then met out the front of Sagrada Familia With a different tour guide for that part. Sagrada Familia is the most amazing thing I have ever seen and even though the group was bigger for it and the tour guide was hard to hear she did her best to describe all the aspects and that in itself allows you to appreciate the structure of it in great detail. Lots of fun I defiantly enjoyed this and recommend travelers to do this tour.

Crizzle C, Nov 2017
I usually don't leave bad reviews but the way I was treated was not okay at all. We did the first tour to Montserrat, meeting time was at 6:25am, me and my friend was there at 6:10am. Our tour guide George was kind enough and waited to the rest of the tour, we didn't leave until 7am. Even the bus driver was really nice, he let my friend use his jacket cause she forgot hers. Someone from our trip needed a wheel chair and George insisted to push the wheelchair. The tour ended at around noon, we got back to the city at 1:30ish, we had about 2 hours till our next tour to Sagrada De Familia, our meeting time is at 3:30pm. Due to traffic and us being unfamiliar with the city, we were 3 minutes late. The taxi driver dropped us off on the other side of the church, we walked around it and looked for our tour guide. It was then 3:35 when I called amigo tours and they called the guide, called me back and said they are already inside. I then requested for a later time and they said they are unable to do so, instead of sympathizing with us he gave me the biggest attitude Well ma'am you're supposed to be there at 3:30 not 3:33. I was shock by his response. It is not okay that we waited half an hour for our earlier trip and we were 3 MINUTES LATE AND THE TOUR GUIDE LEFT US? There should be at least a 10 minute allowance, you guys are dealing with tourist who doesnt know the city at all, its very rude and inconsiderate. All the other tours I did waited at least 10 to 15 minutes for the parties. I DO NOT RECOMMEND BOOKING WITH AMIGO TOURS.

Our bilingual guide was very knowledgeable. And she went at a good pace. We didn't feel rushed at all. The tour was amazing. It is a most for anyone. Montserrat is beautiful. Sagrada Familia- if you are going to Barcelona, you have to see this cathedral.

Excellent tour. Loved Montserrat and the Sagrata Familia a must see. Tour guides were great but had difficulty with the rather heavy Spanish accent. Highly recommend this trip.

Montserrat Monastery is great, it's just that we didn't have enough time to go to funicular view due to the long queu. We don't recommend to go up to the tower access. There's nothing to see and not easy to go down the starway.

Robert I, Oct 2017
This is an experience you don't want to miss. The Montserrat Monastery is too beautiful to put into words...so ornate! The visit included a funicular ride to the top of the mountain for an extra 10 euros but worth every cent for a breathtaking view. Sagrada Familia is so amazing. A person could spend hours just looking at the outside of the building...mind boggling with so much detail and then you go inside and your mouth falls open...it is truly undescribable! No picture or words can take the place of seeing it in person. Our tour included going up one of the towers by elevator for breathtaking views and then back down a spiral staircase of 400 steps. This full day tour gives a beautiful overview of the two but we felt a little rushed at the Monastery and then had a couple of hours to kill in between the two tours. If you have the time I would suggest doing a full day at the Monastery and the Sagrada Familia another day.

Kristen_R, Sep 2017
Both tours and guides were wonderful, especially our guide to Montserrat, Elaina. She was super knowledgable and not only showed us around Montserrat but provided fun facts and history throughout the bus ride to and from. This tour is also the first to get there which was great, since when we left around noon the parking lot was packed with buses and there were tours everywhere. It's much better to get up early and actually enjoy the scenery and Monastery while its quiet. Amigo tours were great!!
