Chicken itza Adventure.
ayalgx, Apr 2024
Our guide was very knowledgeable and made it very interesting. Our only negative was the length of the trip which took 14 hours.
So-so
Amel_A, Jan 2024
Victor our tour guide on the bus was amazing, he deserves 100 stars! But overall the process was long and required lots of driving and waiting. The initial time I thought it would take was much longer and the stops were very touristy. We didn't get to stop in the town either. Overall, was not impressed based on the price.
Response from Host, Jan 2024
Hello Amel! We are glad to hear that your guide Victor was amazing. We would also like to thank you for your comments. The archaeological site of Chichen Itza is a bit far away from where your pick up took place, but we try to make sure that you can visit the most important points. Your comments help us to improve our services. Have a nice day!
Too much sales pitching!
DANNY_W, Dec 2023
Tour was good. Loved the time given at the pyramids and the information provided. I'm used to tour groups giving a sales pitch, but this was particularly long and brutal. 45 minute speech selling modern day Obsidian stones (read: snake oil) when rubbed on your head will cure your insomnia and headaches. Then on the bus there was a second sales pitch for liquor. The hard and persistent sales pitches really detracted from a the tour.
Response from Host, Jan 2024
Hello Danny! We are glad that your tour was good. And that you enjoyed the information provided by our guides and the pyramids. During the tour support is given to local vendors, we are sorry that it was a problem for you. We appreciate your understanding, have a nice day.
Fun Tour/Amazing Sites/Informative Guide (But Bring Your Pesos B/c They Are Definitely Going To Try To Sell You Stuff!)
Albert_d, Nov 2023
We spent the day with Julio (tour guide) and Andres (driver), and they took great care of us. Everybody had a great time, and I would definitely recommend this tour (even with its flaws), because it’s a safe, reliable and easy way to see these sites. However, the tour isn’t exactly as advertised, since yes, we left a little after 7 a.m., but we didn’t get to Chichen Itza until about 12:30 p.m. Before we got there, we had to “check in” for the tour at the back of a gift shop in a mall, and then hang out outside of that gift shop for about 20-30 minutes until they called our tour’s name. Our first stop? Another souvenir shop about 20 minutes outside of Chichen Itza. They disguised this particular selling stop as our “lunch,” but really, you’ve got to endure an entire presentation of alleged Mayan rituals (really, it was a way to sell you stones and other stuff you don’t really need), and about another 20 minutes of hanging out in the souvenir shop with your tour guide’s name on your shirt (clearly, these folks make a commission from all these sales), before they’ll even call your lunch group into the dining area. No complaints about the buffet-style food, though, as it was all delicious. After this stop, we finally headed toward the star of the tour — the ancient Mayan city of Chichen Itza — and how do the locals respect these sacred temples? By turning its outer rim into an area where you can purchase everything from luchador masks to animal-noise-making blow toys to probably anything and everything else. All the selling of things was a little overblown the entire tour, but we did eventually get to all the advertised sites, and they were all amazingly beautiful locales. We had two hours in Chichen Itza (one hour guided, one hour not guided), then one hour at the perfectly-temperatured and absolutely picturesque Cenote Saamal (Selva Maya) in Merida (you will need to purchase a life jacket and possibly a locker if you plan on swimming in the Cenote), and lastly, 30 minutes in the main park at Valladolid (just enough time to catch a portion of the show going on around the fountain and to grab yourself some Mexican street food — in our case, elote). By the time we got home, it was about 9 or 10 at night, but we did get dropped off back at our hotel, which was ideal because we were exhausted by then. LOL! All in all, I’d say the sites were astonishingly beautiful, the tour itself was interesting at times but focused waaay too much on math, the food was good, the driving was safe, but the sales hustle was definitely real and overdone. And for what it’s worth, our tour guide Julio seemed nice. Do with this info what you will, but I just wanted everybody to know what they were signing up for — you’ll be away for an entire day on a tour that could’ve really been done in three and a half hours plus driving and eating time, so bring your pesos, but don’t bring your drones, tripods, selfie sticks or children’s toys since none of those will be allowed in the ancient ruins. Have fun!
Response from Host, Dec 2023
Hello Albert! Thank you for sharing your detailed experience with us. We are happy to hear you had a great experience and enjoyed all the activities. It sounds like you had an eventful day visiting Chichen Itza, Cenote Saamal, and Valladolid. Your insights into the tour, provide valuable information for those considering a similar adventure. As for the vendors in chichen itza, the government allows them to sell to generate a source of income for local artisans, so we can't do anything about it, but any purchase is optional. It's great to hear that you found the sites to be astonishingly beautiful and enjoyed the buffet-style food. Your comprehensive review will undoubtedly help others make informed decisions when planning their trips. Safe travels on your future adventures!

We have taken half a dozen tours with viator, and this, by far was the worst one. Started with being herded like cattle into a shopping area for bracelets. Waited 30 min to get herded again into different buses. 20 min unto our drive, we randomly stopped on the side of the road for 45 min, with no explanation, except, we are waiting. A dozen people got on there. Then we were taken to a buffet lunch, which was completely bland. They randomly took our photo, again, no explanation. We finally got to chichen itza, and that was the best part of this tour. Unfortunately, the beauty and awe inspired ruins were ruled by the countless illegal vendors. We were then taken to a cenote where you had to rent life jackets and lockers. It took 30 min to get down the line to swim, and you were in there for no more that 5 to 10 min. Finally, Valladolid. Wich was a 30 min useless stop. 6 PM, dark, police presence everywhere. On the bus, the AC only worked on the front half of the bus. We were gone from 7 AM, to 9PM. The only worthwhile part was the 2 hours in chichen itza. The bis ride back was so bad, a few people went and were throwing up in the bus bathroom, including my daughter. I think there should be an option on Viator for ONLY chichen itza. The other two stops were completely and utterly useless and a waste of time.

Don’t fall for the scam ‘local gift shop’
Megan_M, Nov 2023
We had a great tour guide. There was a long speech about the first stop being a local poor community that hand make all the souvenirs but when we got there it was all the same drop ship items from china that were available for a heck of a lot cheaper at our hotel: some items still had made In china stickers on them. One item we intended to buy turned out to be £85! Where you can get the exact same item on amazing for £9. Which was a little disappointing but it is very clear that the community isn’t struggling as they all wear very nice watches and the building is very new and well kept. The man in the toilets blocked the doorway In front of my husband because he wanted a tip (for passing him a hand towel) and the same happened with the food venders. Although we had paid a lot for the trip they wouldn’t give you more than one taco unless you tipped them extra. So it was really disappointing that they get a little greedy with the tourism in that stop off but everything else was amazing and I would definitely recommend the plus option as you can have beers and drinks throughout the day without paying a premium price. All other stops were amazing and well worth the visit!
Response from Host, Dec 2023
Hello Megan, Thank you for providing detailed feedback about your tour experience. We're glad to hear that you had a great tour guide, and it's valuable for us to receive insights into your observations and experiences at each stop. As for the vendors, the government allows them to sell to generate a source of income for local artisans, so we can't do anything about it, but any purchase or tip is completely optional. As mentioned in the product description, if you want drinks you must buy the deluxe package, which includes them. On a positive note, we're pleased that you found the other stops enjoyable and worthwhile. We take your feedback seriously and use it as an opportunity to continually improve our services. We appreciate your recommendation and hope to provide an even better experience in the future. Safe travels!
Not well organised. Would not recommend.
Hope_N, Nov 2023
The tour did not start or well and for the reason I wouldn’t recommend this company. It said the tour started at 8. We got picked up at 7. Thought after picking up a few more people we would be on our way. But we were dropped at a mall where we got wristbands and then had to wait for over an hour. There was nowhere to sit so we had to sit on the pavement. The communication was also terrible. No one explained what was happening. We finally got on a bus at 8.35 am but didn’t leave until 8.50. Because we left late, the plans changed and we went for lunch first instead of going to chichen itza. This was quite annoying. The bus we were on also had broken aircon that was freezing and dropped constantly. Our guide had good knowledge of Chichen Itza and we loved the cenote but the stop in Volladid was very rushed. Would have loved a bit more time here. Thankfully we didn’t have to go back to the mall and change transportation after the tour. We were dropped back at the pick up point.
Response from Host, Jan 2024
Hello Hope, Thank you for sharing your feedback about your recent tour experience with us. We deeply regret that the tour did not meet your expectations. As mentioned in our tour description, the pick up time is before the tour start time, as it is a shared tour, we have to pick up all the passengers before the tour starts, and the itinerary of the tour may vary depending on the group dynamics and punctuality of all the participants. We're glad to hear that you found our guide knowledgeable and enjoyed the visit to Chichen Itza and the cenote. As mentioned in the description of our tour, the visit to Valladolid is short. We appreciate your comments. Thank you for your understanding.
A must tour When you go to Cancun
Marilou_F, Nov 2023
We enjoyed our tour to chichen Itza. The tour guide Viktor and Miguel very informative and enthusiastic. They provided us a lot of information about Mayan culture. The lunch was good. The driver Juan drives safe. It’s a a long trip, it started 7 am and came back to hotel 8:30 pm.
Response from Host, Nov 2023
Hello Marilou! We're happy to hear that you enjoyed your Chichen Itza tour with us! Viktor and Miguel, your tour guides, sound like they did an excellent job by providing informative and enthusiastic insights into Mayan culture. We believe that understanding the history and culture enriches the travel experience. It's great to know that you found the lunch satisfying and that Juan, your driver, ensured a safe journey throughout the day. We understand that it's a long trip, but exploring such historical sites can be truly rewarding. Thank you for sharing your positive feedback, and we hope to welcome you back for more enriching adventures in the future! 🌟😊
Amazing!
Ambra_B, Oct 2023
All the tour was amazing, our guide, Ivan, went above and beyond - specially while on Chicken Itza. As expected we had some moments where they try to sell souvenirs, which is also part of their job and income - just say no thank you and they will not bother you about it! After the lunch they give us a bottle of digestive with our photo print on it, we didn’t buy it and they gave the pic for free. Only negative part is the start of the tour - they start to pick up people at 7:00am but it takes a while to go to the first place, still there is enough time to do everything listed. Is a collective tour, if you are not open mind and not ready to share the experience with other people, organise it by yourself without ruining the day to all the other complaining for everything. Be nice with the people around, you only live once!
Response from Host, Nov 2023
Hello Ambra! We're thrilled to hear that your Chichen Itza tour was amazing, and that Ivan, your guide, went above and beyond to make it a special experience. Your understanding of the occasional souvenir sales along the way is appreciated. It's indeed part of the local culture and a source of income for many. As for the early start of the tour, we understand it can be a bit early, but it allows for a full day of exploration and experiences. We appreciate your understanding of the collective tour aspect and your willingness to share the experience with others. Your positive attitude and the reminder to be kind to those around us are truly appreciated. We hope to welcome you back for more adventures in the future! 😎✨
Fantastic Day -Great Value
Tracy_B, Sep 2023
Absolutely brilliant day yesterday. Rhett and Roberto were very knowledgeable about Mayan history and culture. Fabulous driving by Enrique. Advice for anyone booking this trip:- - do get the plus package - it’s worth it for the access to cold drinks - you’ll need then as it’s incredibly hot - do hire an umbrella inside Chichen Itza (it was only $3 but so worth it as there’s not much shade). Those who didn’t were really wilting and missed a lot of the guided tour as they were too hot. - do take a pillow for the journey. It’s a long one from playa del carmen! -don’t forget your sun cream and hats (I remembered the sun cream but forgot a hat and regretted it) A brilliant day with great company and very well organised. Thanks all. X

The tour guides were great. They were on time for pick up and drop off. The tour gave us sufficient time to see the sites and the food was great.

Great tour for the money
Charles_C, Aug 2023
We throughly enjoyed this trip. It was all day (a little longer than we though) but we had a very nice time. The cenote was a great experience even though I lost the key jumping in and had to pay $300MX ($17USD) for losing it. If you go in the summer be prepared for the sweltering heat at the ruins. The last city we went to, Valladolid was very nice but with only 30 mins there it really wasn’t worth the stop. We also were told we would be back to our resort by 7pm (we planned for 8pm just in case) but we didn’t get back until after 9:30pm which was the only criticism due to us having dinner plans we missed. Also the process at the beginning really slowed things down by having us shuttle to Cancun then having to walk deep into the shopping center to get our bracelets to sign in. Then we had to wait to get on our bus. It felt like a lot of time was lost in Cancun. That should be tightened up. Tour guides were great however and we had a very nice day.
Response from Host, Aug 2023
Dear Charles! Thank you for your comments and we are glad you enjoyed the tour, we regret the incident with the faucet and if visiting Chichen Itza in summer is precisely under high temperatures, hence the recommendations to bring hats, sunglasses, sunscreen and water to stay hydrated. Regarding the distance, this time estimation is made but due to traffic or vehicular accidents it may be longer, once again we extend an apology for having had small changes in your vacation itinerary. Thank you again for your preference and time to tell us about the issues that improve. Continue having a great time in the wonderful Riviera Maya and best regards.
Amazing and well organized! Bang for your buck!
Raul_R, Jul 2023
What an amazing unforgettable trip! The tour guide was great and very knowledgeable, you could tell he loves what he does. Just a fair warning trip, will be an all day thing, but it is worth it! They pick you up from your hotel and take you to Chichen Itza which is about 2 hours from Cancun. For the price, it is a steal between everywhere they take you. Bus was air conditioned and spacious. The team was great and friendly and very well organized. Would recommend everyone to take this trip and tour guide!
Response from Host, Jul 2023
Dear Raul! Thank you very much for the positive comment, it is a pleasure that you enjoyed the tour even though Chichen Itza is further away from Cancun, Playa del Carmen or Tulum, it is a must if you visit Mexico. We invite you to continue knowing the wonders of the country and the state of Quintana Roo. Thank you for your preference and best wishes.
Great taster tour for Chichen Itza and Yúcatan sights
Julia_S, Jul 2023
A well-organized tour that had something for everyone. Really appreciated the taster tour of so many experiences: - a couple of hours at Chichen Itza - a very fun hour at the beautiful cenote Samaal - Mayan cultural taster + lunch buffet, and - brief stop in charming Valladolid The tour was very well organized and professionally run throughout. A couple of minor improvements would make the experience perfect: - shorter wait after early morning hotel pickup as instructed for 645 - which probably could have been 715 instead (we waited about an hour after arriving at the bus meeting point, and had arrived so early that the public restrooms at the shopping plaza were still locked) - clearer English or written instructions/flow of logistics at the cenote about how to pay for and receive the mandatory life jackets + locker keys, to avoid losing time during the short stop. Thanks to Fred and the rest of the guide team and Fundación Maya for an excellent bus tour overall.
Response from Host, Jul 2023
Dear Julia! We thank you for the timely feedback you share with us, your comments are very valuable for us precisely to know what can be improved. We will take into account every aspect you mention, with the aim of having a more organized excursion and with the least possible waiting time. We invite you to continue enjoying the great Mexican Caribbean and to get to know our offer of activities. Have a nice day and best regards.
Amazing Tour
Alee_H, Jun 2023
Chichén Itza was amazing! I'm so glad to book with Cancun Bay Tours. All entry tickets were included in the price so their were no hidden fees. If you do not buy the premium package be sure to bring lots of water or stop at the shop to buy ice cold water. The cenote was amazing and felt great after being at Chichén Itza. It was a very long day but was totally worth it.

Worthwhile but…
MariaLuisa_R, Feb 2023
Pick up from hotel was perfect and punctual. We did not realise we would have to go to another location to queue and pick up wristbands for an hour. The instructions were not clear at all here. We also had to pay an additional 32usd which was unexpected as we had understood everything to be included in the original price stated here. Eventually, we were ready to depart and we first stopped at the buffet restaurant however as we had to wait for our slot, we had some time in the local shop. The food was fair. We then arrived at Chichen Itza where we had an hour long guided tour with Tomas who is very knowledgeable. Chichen Itza is a very interesting archaeological site and well worth a visit! However it is full of vendors even inside which was unexpected and they’re cheaper than many others. We had another hour to wander around ourselves (felt quite rushed, would’ve enjoyed more time) and then hurried back to the bus to head to the Cenote Saamal. We arrived and it wasn’t too busy. When we left the queue was extraordinarily long with other tour groups that arrived after us. The Cenote was beautiful. Final stop was in Valladolid which again was a very short stop. Returned to Cancun around 9pm with the bus dropping us all off at our respective hotels. Our driver Cesar was excellent. All in all it was a worthwhile experience but too much emphasis on selling.
