Enjoy the early morning tranquility as you wander the ambient ruins of Coba, listening as your guide offers captivating commentary. Absorb information relating to the translation of the site’s Mayan name, which means ‘place of choppy water’ and hear intriguing stories of the ancient civilization that occupied the 43-square-mile (70-square-km) city in the 13th century. Visit large stone monuments decorated with hieroglyphic texts and gain insight into how the city maintained a useful relationship with the rainforest and surrounding lakes.

Great Tour
Sinead_S, Apr 2024
Tomas and Jairo were great! Very knowledgeable. Tomas did his best to keep us in the shade during our tour as it was 39°C outside! Everything was beautiful and we would definitely visit again.

A magical day!
jacqueline_v, Apr 2024
Me and my sister had a lovely time on this tour. Carmen told us all about the Mayan history and we could feel it in the places we visited. I would recommend to do coba by bicycle or tricycle it is a nice way to see all without having to break out in much sweat. The dive in the cenote was like a dream. The way down was steep, but wonderfull. It was not busy, at one point we were alone in the cenote. The chichen itza itself is beautiful, but the information from our tour guide Carmen was what made it magical. The way back was long, but busdriver Emanuel took care of it and drive us home safely. Thank you Carmen and Emanuel for the nice day!
Response from Host, Apr 2024
Dear jacquelin, Thank you for sharing your experience! We're thrilled to hear that you and your sister had a lovely time on our tour with Carmen and Emanuel. Disappointed at Coba and Valladolid
ScottCampbell, Mar 2024
I had to downgrade this rating for two reasons. First, an hour is nowhere near enough time to see Coba - it was just a ridiculous rush, no time to appreciate anything. Second, the tour of Valladolid consisted of a bus drive around the main square - not a tour or even a visit. That said, Chichen Itza is spectacular, as expected The cenote swim was fine and the lunch there was surprisingly good - that establishment is well-financed. Guides Esther and Nancy and driver Carlos were good. It's misleading to include Valladolid in your advertising. And find a way to allow more time at Coba.
Response from Host, Apr 2024
Dear ScottCa, Thank you for your feedback. We're sorry for the rushed experience at Coba and the disappointment with the Valladolid tour. We'll review these aspects to improve future tours. We appreciate your positive comments about Chichen Itza, the cenote swim, and lunch, as well as your compliments for guides Esther and Nancy and driver Carlos. Warm greetings from the entire quality team at Amigo Tours, Chelsea
EXPECT TO PAY DOUBLE OF WHAT YOU SEE- wishing that Amigo Tours are more transparent and honest on tour descriptions
Hon_L, Mar 2024
Firstly, we just want to say we booked the tour knowing that some tax were not covered by the tour company. Pros: Isaac was very good at explaining and guiding us through the day. Diego was very good and attentive at driving us to the places of interest in a safe and efficient manner. Chichen Itza and Coba really are worth the time and journey. Cons. It would really be helpful to future travellers if prices aren't hidden and be more transparent. We booked this tour knowing that we will have to pay for the offical INAH Chichen Itza tax of 568MXN/34USD per person and another local tax for Coba which amounts to around 100USD/6USD per person. My problem though is the description and to an extent, a false advertisement for customers. If you travel to Coba by yourself you will find out 100MXN is the entrance fee, not a local "tax" so when they advertise it as "admission is included", its not, you pay the full price of that part of the tour. First thing of the day before we got on the bus - we were greeted to pay 750MXN per person each to cover all the taxes, but 40USD amounts to ~668MXN so where does the extra 82MXN per person go? - Some other tax/fee/tips that has not been explained to us and not advertised on the tour profile. You will also have to prepare an extra 100MXN each to cover the entrance to the Cenote, admission is "included" for the lunch area but you will have to pay 100MXN per person to swim. So if you think swimming is included, no it isn't, another bit of false advertisement. Another extra cost you might want to consider is the "bike or tricycle" rental at Coba, we were given 1 hour and 20 minutes to walk and was told the area is too big to walk around and see everything and that you must rent a bike or tricycle for 4 and 8USD respectively, to enjoy the whole experience - we did not take up this experience and walked around at a leisurely place and had time to spare whilst seeing all the places of interest, but we understand that some might want to consider if they don't want to walk around for 45 minutes (the terrain is flat and there is no inclination), you also cannot climb up the Coba Nohoch Mul pyramid as one of the first pictures show. IN SUMMARY We did enjoy the day, but it would be nicer if the pricing is more transparent on the tour profile, i.e what is actually included, i.e. just a simple - the cenote swim is not included. Be honest and not be ambiguous or misleading. So how much more do you have to pay? So you have the base price depending on starting points (925MXN to 1542MXN) - but you will have to prepare around double that for tax and entry fees which they claim is included but in actual fact it is not. They will ask for 750MXN per person before you get on the bus to cover aforementioned tax (668MXN) and the rounded up mystery tips of 82MXN. Cenote swim entry is 100MXN per person. Optional bike ride range from 70-140MXN per person. So you are expected to pay around 1000MXN/60USD/56EUR/48GBP more than advertised.. which is 65%-108% (double) the amount that you see. I have been on a lot of these day tours (ones at a cheaper price range offering similar experiences), most of them offer a bottle of water. This would really have been a nice gesture - it doesn't cost a lot for a bottle(s) of water, we were prepared and brought 2 litres of water each as it was 36°C / 97°F, we had a family that suffered symptoms of a heat stroke the day we went and they had to transport themselves back to Cancun and skip half of the trip, perhaps a bottle(s) of water might have prevented that? Though, Isaac, the tour guide managed the situation very well, he organised medics and transport for said family. It would be great if Amigo Tours could take on this feedback constructively.
Response from Host, Mar 2024
Dear Hon_L, Thank you for taking the time to provide detailed feedback on your experience with our tour. We are glad to hear that you enjoyed the tour overall and found Isaac and Diego's guidance and service commendable. We apologize for any confusion regarding the pricing and transparency of our tour package. We strive to be upfront about all costs associated with our tours, including entrance fees and additional expenses such as the optional bike rentals, it is specified in the tour that the lifejacket is not included, and it is needed to be able to swim in the cenote. We appreciate your suggestion, and we will take this into consideration for future tours to ensure the comfort and well-being of our guests. Thank you again for your feedback, and we hope to welcome you back on another tour with us in the future. Warm greetings from the entire quality team at Amigo Tours, Chelsea
Fantastic
Aaron_H, Oct 2023
Amazing day out! The break between Coba and Chichin Itza for a cool dip in an incredible cenote and an excellent, typical Mexican comida lunch buffet was extensive and delicious. (I have a hard time believing the other reviews! This is a typical lunch with particularly good tacos!) Esther and Martin are excellent guides and we were picked up and dropped off exactly on time. Highly recommended.
Great quality, not all info correct
Petter_R, Oct 2023
The guide Carmen and the driver Ricardo were great. Friendly and knowledgable guide. I had a great day with them and the other tourists. Good bus. Can recommend. Great to know: Correct time does not correspond with booked time. I booked 06:00 in Tulum, but my confirmation said 7:05(but arrived 7:30). The buffet is not really that good, but it works. It says on Viator that pickup is offered. It is not, and you have to meet at the meeting point. Do bring mosquito repellant for Coba 👍🏻

Abigail_T, May 2023
First would like to highlight that yes this was an English guided tour, however the listing failed to mention that it would be a dual language tour, where every other sentence the guide would switch to Spanish to cater to the other half of the tour. This switching back and forth was a little confusing and was a little hard to understand sometimes what he was trying to convey. Next, at coba it is mandatory to either rent a bicycle or a tricycle. This was not mentioned in the original listing, this information only was conveyed right us after the confirmation. Furthermore, the buffet meal included was also not very appetizing, would recommend packing lunch for your own consumption. The description of what is included in the tour is also misleading, it indicated that tickets to chichen itza and coba was included and what is needed to be paid is archeological tax. In actual fact the archeological tax is the ticket fee to enter the sites. With regards to the pick up process, our pick up was actually late by 30mins. Would also like to highlight that this tour actually may involve a lot of sitting in the bus before and after due to the sheer amount of pick up stops. If you are coming from cancun, there cam be pick up of other tourists from playa de carmen/specific hotels from playa car etc. This adds up to about 2 to 2.5 tours worth of traveling time back and forth On the way back the drop off process was super confusing, we were told to change into a smaller van (where the driver only spoke Spanish when the tour was meant to be in english) and there was confusion over the drop off points. Would like to mention though that this tour is good for covering many archeological sites in one day, we did go to many places and if you are in a rush with minimal time in cancun, it is an efficient way to see the sites despite the above mentioned drawbacks.

It was a very informative tour. Our tour guide Daniel and driver Joe made sure we were well informed and taken care of along the way. You will be out for the ENTIRE DAY so wear comfortable clothes and shoes. Also, it’s super hot at Chicen Itza so stay hydrated!

Great time at Chichen Itza
Amanda_K, Mar 2023
We had a great time on our tour! Our tour guide was knowledgeable and friendly. She was even willing to talk with us on the bus about Mayan culture. We packed a lot of activities in a full day and I would say it’s a good value. I gave it 4/5 bc our lunch ended up being around 2/3pm when it was supposed to be around noon and we were fading fast at Chichen Itza. I would definitely pack some extra snacks and water if you book the excursion.
Response from Host, Mar 2023
Dear Amanda Thank you so much for taking the time to rate us! We are sorry that the experience was not satisfactory at all, we will be on the lookout for this issue. Mariana, Amigo tours
Poor tour
Samuel_P, Jan 2023
Unfortunately, chichen went on strike and we couldn't go which altered the tour. Not their fault. However, the tour only allowed for 1 hour in coba and Tulum which really didn't leave time to do anything. The time it took to walk to the location only left you 30 min to explore. Every where we went felt rushed. The tour wasn't informative. Tulum’s guide said two things and sent us on our way.
Response from Host, Jan 2023
Dear Samuel_P, we are sorry to know that your experience has not been 5 stars, thank you for sending us your comments, which we will take into consideration for future tours, have a great day! Ivana, Amigo Tours

The most disorganized tour with false information
Gladys_K, Nov 2022
This tour is so badly described and their communication is even worse. When booking from Tulum, it says in their description that the meeting time is 8:00 and they ask you to provide your hotel info for pickup. So I booked it based on that information because the time and hotel pick-up were the most convenient for me. After booking, I was surprised and angered when they send me a message changing the meeting time to 7:15, and that they don’t do hotel pick-ups. I went back and forth with them about the misleading information they provide to clients but they insisted that they only start at 7:15 and I have to go to a certain meeting point (which would cost me to get there). I then give up and accept their terms so I show up at the agreed meeting point at 7:13ish and I wait and wait and wait. At around 7:30, I was convinced that they must have changed the meeting time to 8:00 (because of the confusing information provided from the beginning) So I decided to wait until 8:00. Important to note that although you leave your phone number for them to contact you on the day of pickup, they don’t. Once you have paid, they don’t care about providing a fair service. Anyway, I end up waiting till 8:15 when I gave up. At that point, I had tried to call them but no one was answering. Long story short, if you want to go to Chichen Iza, please do yourself a favor and avoid this tour at all costs because they only care to get the money and not provide a good service. There are many other trips that I could have chosen so I really regret paying for this and losing my money.
Response from Host, Nov 2022
Dear Gladys_K, we are very sorry to know you had a bad experience, we would like to clear out that the tour indeed starts at 8:00 am, that´s the starting time of the activity, and the pick-up is at 7:00 am at the meeting point. Nevertheless, we invite you to email us at aux_calidad@amigotours.com to follow up on your case. Ivana, Amigo Tours
Great tour!
Priscilla_C, Nov 2022
I was on a journey to see the 7 wonders and made a stop at Chichen Itza! The tour was great. We were able to learn the history of Mayan descedents and the unique history of Chichen Itza being the largest microphone and calendar in the world. Alvaro - our tour guide was very knowledgable and gave us a unique experience throughout the tour. I highly recommend!

Amazing sites, but unorganized and horrible lunch
Lauren_V, Oct 2022
The sites were amazing but way too crowded. The guide was very difficult to understand, he would randomly switch between English and Spanish and spoke very quickly so I missed a lot of what he spoke about. He also gave us the wrong instructions more than once about where to get things and when to be back at the bus. Some of the sights were large so finding him was nearly impossible because the group didn’t stay together. Also we had to figure out how to pay the taxes at each sight because we weren’t given any directions. There just wasn’t enough communication and it felt very rushed and unorganized. The buffet lunch was horrible, really long lines and the food was so bland and not many options. Then the employees were yelling at us to sit in certain seats.
Response from Host, Oct 2022
Dear Lauren_V, we are deeply sorry to know you had a bad experience, we will take into consideration your review to improve, although we would like to point out that the description of the tour that is on the website does explain that the taxes for the sites are not included in the price of the tour, only if you pay for the deluxe one. Have a great day! Ivana, Amigo Tours
Good tour that packed...
AS_P, Oct 2022
Good tour that packed both Chichen Itza and Coba into a single package along with a cenote trip - difficult to find other tours that do this very efficiently given the distances involved. Also appreciated the convenient hotel pick-up and drop-off. Our guides - Marcela on the tour bus - and Rodrigo at Chichen Itza - were both very good, provided good information (in both Spanish & English) and relevant background / historical info. Marcela was very accommodating to everyone's needs, great sense of humor too.

Not as described
Steven_M, Aug 2022
Disappointing trip, not as described at all. Tour guide Alvaro seemed to have an attitude problem with the tour attendees. On arriving at Coba we were given only 45 mins (instead of the listed 3 hrs), and the guide told us to hire a bike to get across the jungle to get to the main pyramid, otherwise we'd never make it there and back in time. People in our group were walking in extreme heat as fast as they could just to have a couple of mins at the pyramid taking pictures. The guide did not come with us, and did not offer any explanation of Coba until we were back on the bus after, and even then it was brief. The pyramid cannot be climbed, despite the description of the tour saying it could. We were not taken to any underground cave as per the description. Next stop, Chichen Itza. It is described that we would have an explanation and then free time after. We didn't get any free time other than 10 mins when we arrived to take some quick pics. When someone tried to buy (reasonably priced) souveniers, the guide refused to let them and said we must do our shopping at 'Number 1 shop in Yucatan' as the shopping time was accounted for there (despite it NOT being advertised as part of the tour and is not something we wanted to waste our time doing). We had a stop at the shop for 25 mins next to where lunch was, and it was extraordinarily overpriced with staff pressuring to buy. Lunch was mostly inedible, many people left their food and only ate watermelon. After this, it was the Saalmal Cenote. We were given 1 hr 15 mins for this which included another unadvertised activity - a tequila tasting (another way to sell us more stuff - starting around 55 USD a bottle upwards). We went straight into the Cenote instead and enjoyed it. The guide wasn't impressed that we didn't want to be upsold further products. Finally, a measly 20 minute stop at Valladolid where the guide made us go into a shop with 'free toilets' aka another deal with the company to get us to buy souveniers from a given place. Valladolid is a beautiful place, instead of forcing us to spend 25 mins at an unadvertised shop at lunch, the time should be given to Valladolid. The additional charges for the day include: 100 peso Coba tax per person (mandatory), 150 peso for Coba driver driven tricycle or 65 peso per bicycle, (optional - but guide said we wouldn't make it otherwise), 486 Chichen Itza tax per person (mandatory), 50 peso per person life jacket for cenote (mandatory), 50 peso locker for cenote (optional), 55 peso per 355ml soda at lunch (optional, no drinks inc with lunch), 60 peso umbrella at Chichen Itza (optional)
Response from Host, Aug 2022
Dear Amig@ Steven_M We are sorry that this experience was not a 5-star experience for you. The climate of the Riviera Maya is very hot and should be taken into account when visiting this area of the world. In our product, it is indicated that the guide will not be able to enter Coba. Many of the mentioned observations are explained in the product description, and we are sorry for not having been to your liking, we try to make an incredible experience that will take you to know the best tourist sites on your visit.
