What To Expect

Meet your guide by the main gates to the Pitti Palace in Oltrarno at 12pm or 3pm, depending on the season. With your group together, you’ll step inside the Renaissance palace to explore the last abode of the Medici family.

Listen to your guide to understand the history of the powerful dynasty, and the characters who lavished their wealth and power on the palace. Plush furnishings aside, the palazzo boasts an extensive collection of artwork from the Renaissance and beyond.

On your tour of the Palatine Gallery, you’ll encounter frescoes and paintings by Caravaggio, Raphael, Rubens, and Titian, in addition to other eminent European artists. Check out the Royal Apartments with their luxurious interiors and artwork that spans the 16th to the 19th centuries.

After 1.5 hours, your tour ends inside the palace.

After 2 frustrating experiences with tours earlier in the day, and with the heat at “feels like 106 degrees F”, we regrettably didn’t make it to the Pitti Palace tour. We were feeling too much heat exhaustion to participate in the tour.

Our host Elizabet was a very interesting and informative companion with a great sense of humour. There were only 3 of us on the tour which was a shame as it was a fascinating. It was so useful to be given so much information about the former occupants and delve into their history and habits. We could ask questions to personalise our visit and she highlighted the most important pieces of art and furniture. The Palace is amazing and we spent time in a couple of the exhibitions having been given an understanding of how people lived and interacted with others. A very personal and enjoyable experience which we recommend to others.
