IMPORTANT: Access is restricted to Lahaina on the west side of Maui. The tour times provided reflect the start and end of the tour, but not your exact pickup and drop off time. Whether or not you've provided your hotel/lodging at the time of booking, you are required to contact the tour provider no less than (2) days prior to your tour date to receive your exact pickup time and location. The tour provider will advise you of the specific area at the hotel/lodging you should wait; for example "at the front entrance." Please be there at least 5 minutes before your pickup time. Please allow a 10-15 minute grace period, as the driver will be picking up other guests in your area. If your hotel/lodging is not included on our pickup schedule, you'll be advised to meet at nearby location. Please note that we are prohibited by certain properties to pickup non-hotel guests and we do not pick-up at private properties such as AirBnB's and residential areas.

What To Expect

Start your day in Maui with a breathtaking sunrise view of the island from atop its highest peak on this daybreak excursion to Mount Haleakala. This exceptional sunrise experience is sure to be a highlight of your trip to Maui.

Start your trip in the dark of the very early morning with a pickup at your Maui hotel. You’ll then continue by air-conditioned minibus on a scenic drive passing the Kula District. and Maui’s rare silversword plants.

Arriving at the Haleakala National Park, steadily climb by minibus up Haleakala to 9,740 feet elevation to the Visitor Center. You’ll see Maui’s rare and endemic silversword plants that poignantly bloom once, then perish. You’ll also witness the sunrise from the Visitor Center area. The views from Haleakala are nothing short of spectacular. Writer Mark Twain, upon visiting the peak in 1866, wrote that the volcano was “the most sublime spectacle I ever witnessed and the memory of it will remain with me always.”

Observe the first rays of the new day slowly creep across the distant horizon. Soon the sky fills with the majestic glow of the new day, and the warm beams of light creep across the island of Maui, illuminating the land below. It’s a sight you’re sure to remember for many years to come.

At the end of your morning sunrise experience you’ll head to breakfast at a local restaurant and then receive a drop-off back at your Maui hotel, tired but thrilled by your amazing morning trip.

Haleakala is known for rapidly changing weather conditions and dense clouds and rain are common. As a result, clear viewing of the sunrise is not guaranteed, and the tour operates rain or shine. Refunds will be granted only when the tour is cancelled for safety reasons.

The high altitude at the summit area may complicate health conditions and breathing difficulties. Elderly visitors, pregnant women, young children, and those with respiratory or heart conditions should consult their doctor prior to touring. Walk slowly and drink water to avoid dehydration. If you have gone scuba diving, you should wait at least 72 hours before going on this tour.

We loved seeing the sunrise above the clouds. The tour guide was great - informative, friendly, very customer service oriented, and funny. It's a long tour but it didn't seem long since we were entertained. I was skeptical about waking up so early but it was worthwhile.

We were blessed with a clear sky. The sunrise was very epic and beautiful. Preston is amazing, very skilled in safely navigating a large vehicle along the road that goes from 0 feet to 10,000 feet in almost all weather conditions. The journey back down is very interesting with notes from history. 5 star experience!

The sunrise itself was the most memorable for us. The breakfast was nice as well. The tour guide had great knowledge of the sites as well. My only feedback would be to carry some extra blankets and gloves for the guests.

Our driver Preston was the greatest!! He had so much information and told us how to get the best view. But def bundle up it was 39 the day we went up and super windy so make sure you dress really warm!!

This was a beautiful experience, it was a beautiful view of the sunrise. I would most likely do this again, but go on my own. I was not able to purchase park entry tickets because they were "NR" not released. You typically need several weeks or months to purchase in advance. We left at 2:30 a.m. and it took about 2 hours to pick up other passengers. We got there in plenty of time. There's a calmness to the area. It's peaceful. Then left and headed for breakfast at the Mill store, that was delicious. Then another 2 hours to drop everyone off. If you can get tickets on time, go on your own. We were kinda in a pinch. It really is freezing, 30° ish. Dress accordingly! We brought hand warmers and toe warmers in addition to layers of warm clothing and it was chilly!

Incredible experience! Remember to dress warm bc the view site is super cold. Preston our guide was the best. We learned so much from him. He truly cares about his job. You’ll be exhausted after the tour but the sunrise is worth it all. Don’t miss out!

This is an amazing experience! The views are spectacular and so worth the early pick up time. They aren’t kidding either when they tell you to dress warmly. It was indeed cold and windy at that elevation so find a way to pack something warm!

A must do, but it’s a windy and curvy road up the mountain so take your ginger if you’re easily road sick. The view was breathtaking. DRESS WARM, as it’s freezing at the top…layers layers and more layers!

Dark side of the moon

It was an amazing experience breathtaking the stars and the ability to see so many stars, moon, and Venus was very surreal. Our guide Preston was very personable and attentive to his passengers. He had a great understanding of the countryside and Hawaiian culture. He went out of his way to get some of us ladies who were not prepared for the 44 degree temperature and the wind some gloves and coats he had extra on the bus. Dress warmly is the key to the adventure. Only complaint would be for the breakfast would be to have a little more than fruit for the vegan folks we were traveling with. Maholo

Don’t waste your time

Poorly organized. A lot of wasted time. Got up to the top 2 hours before sunrise. No coffee, no food. The van was freezing blowing out cold air. The restaurant is at the end of the tour. We thought we would have snacks and drinks along the way. Lots of wasted time. Miserable time. The only saving grace was Preston the tour guide. He was very informative and you can tell he loves what he does. The tour and planning/time line was horrible.

Our tour guide, Preston, was absolutely amazing! The tour was fantastic. Even though it was one of the warmest days ever at 56 degrees, it was still very cold. You must absolutely dress for the cold and the wind. The Sunrise was breath taking, the breakfast at the restaurant was decent. I highly recommend!
