The bus left us so we took a taxi to the location. It was a 4 hour drive. We stayed at the pyramids entrance for approximately 5 hours until the bus arrived and we explained the situation and the guides were not helpful and brushed us off. We didn’t enter any of the tours the entire day and we took a public transit back to our hotel. In total from 6 am until 8 pm we wasted an entire day.
    Discrimination

I’ve never felt so unsafe on a tour. The staff on this excursion was incredibly rude, discriminatory, racist, negligent, and isolating. The lead tour guide was incredibly rude and berated me on the bus for falling asleep on the bus. When we got to our first stop nobody instructed me on what to do and they guides were only speaking Spanish. I had to ask what we were supposed to do when people started splitting up. I also stated that I was English speaking when I booked the tour but it seemed like an inconvenience on the trip. Also I asked prior to the trip how long the ATV experience was and I was told 4 hours of the trip…it was actually a ten minute ride in the parking lot and behind the building. Furthermore, I again had to ask about were I was supposed to go every step of the trip due to the tour guide only speaking English when I asked him directly. When I asked about were the cenote was when I was left alone again, he didn’t seem to want to be bothered. Also nobody came to help the ATV guy explain its use to me. He didn’t speak English so I had to figure it out the best I could…this was unsafe. At Chichen the guide left me again when I told him I was going to buy a bottle of water. But he waited for other people and checked on them when they used the bathroom. He also was explaining the history of Chichen in Spanish and told me that I could just walk around on my own. I stayed and requested that he explain it to me in English. I ended up learning more from listening to the other tour guides that I randomly ended up following. On our return to Cancun another member of the staff on the bus offered everyone except me a beverage. It’s hard to believe that racism didn’t have something to do with how I was treated on this trip. I was the only black man on this trip that happened to speak English. The staff on the trip did not want to assist me. This was a disturbing experience.
