What To Expect

After pickup at your Rio hotel, meet your guide and travel to Maracanã Stadium to immerse yourself in the world of futebol (pronounced 'foo-chee-bol' by the locals.)

This 3-hour tour gives you the opportunity to stand on the hallowed ground of this legendary stadium, renovated to host the 2014 FIFA World Cup. Originally built to host the 1950 World Cup (during which Brazil suffered a devastating loss), it was the largest stadium in the world at that time and was officially named Estado Jornalista Mario Filho.

Stroll around the empty stadium, normally full of up to 183,000 screaming fans. Enter the locker rooms, decorated with the jerseys of famous retired players, and enjoy access to the press room.

Park yourself on the Brazilian team bench, where players from Vasco, Flamengo, Fluminense and Botafogo have sat before you. Gaze out on the hallowed pitch, enjoying the same vantage point as the players do during a game. Walk up the entry ramp, just like Ronaldo used to in every game, and imagine the roar of a crowd around you as you step onto the field. Listen as your guide tells tales of the send off of Garrincha's earthly remains and Pele's thousandth goal.

At the conclusion of this soccer-fanatic tour, enjoy transportation back to your Rio hotel.

Marvellous Maracana

Was definitely on our to do list whilst in Rio, we had a fantastic guide called Louis who knew a lot about the stadium and who was very clearly passionate about his football.

We had a wonderful and nostalgic tour

It was a miracle of memories to meet all the old icons again on film and pictures and to see this temple of football! As I am a swede it was interesting to learn that 138 000 people whatched the match between Brazil and Sweden in 1950 World Cup which was one of the first matches ever played in this stadium! Our guide was entusiastic and knowledgeable and made a very good job!

As a big football enthusiast, this was the first tour I booked when I planned my holiday to Brazil. Even after watching a game at the stadium the day before I had the tour booked, I was still excited to see all the facilities and stadium from another perspective. Our guide spoke perfect English, was very accommodating and friendly throughout, gave us plenty of time for photos, and knew his stuff about the history of Brazilian football. Overall, I am very pleased with what I saw and would recommend this tour to any avid football enthusiast.

Only book this tour if you absolutely don't want to take cheaper options such as the subway or a taxi. This tour is nothing more than a transportation service to/from hotel/stadium. Once you're at the stadium, your tour guide is an employee of the stadium. There's not much information shared by the Viator tour guide. You get no special access compared to those that arrive by subway and pay for the tour at the stadium. We decided to use Viator because we thought the lines to get into the stadium would be long with tourists due to Carnaval. However, at 9 am there was a total of 50 people total touring the stadium. Absolutely NO LINES! The tour lasted less than one hour. I highly recommend doing this tour on your own unless you fear public transportation and don't mind over paying for this service. In all, the stadium is definitely a MUST SEE!

The bus for the tour was huge causing the tour itself to be very late to arrive at the stadium. I did expect more things to see at Maracana, it's no where close to be the museum some of the other prestigious stadiums in the world are. JB was very nice but began sweating profusely and therefore penetrated the front of the bus with his strong body odor, but he was very kind and meant well. If I had to do this tour again, I would've taken a taxi there and bought the ticket at the door. It's way cheaper and faster. But Maracana is definitely worth seeing.

Overall it was good. Only saw the basics of the stadium e.g. Pitch side, changing room area not including showers/baths. Compared to other stadium tours this was very little

Great way to see the Maracana Stadium in a short amount of time. We hit all the high points and it only took a couple of hours including transport to and from. Walking out to the field through the players tunnel was a really cool experience.
