Tour guide was simple amazing, but the company does not help you skip the line

Our tour guide, Roberto, was a rock star! He was engaging, knowledgable, and made the tour both informative and fun. Could not have asked for a better guide. The only downside to this experience is that whoever oversees this process does a very inefficient job of organizing things. We had to go to one location to present our vouchers before being escorted to a separate location for someone else to then take us to the Vatican museum entrance. While there, we waited in line to get in. Every single Vatican tour advertises itself as "skip the line" so basically none of them actually help you do so. We waited over an hour before after our tour start time until we finally got inside the Vatican where our guide was waiting for us.

Going with a tour guide to the Vatican is well worth it. I’ve now been twice, once with and once without, and it was definitely better with. Our guide was super knowledgeable and experienced, making the experience smooth and efficient. Definitely get a tour to know what you’re looking at and to skip the line! Also be aware it’s long so eat before! You basically can’t buy food in the Vatican

Do not choose this tour

I would not recommend this tour. The departure was 45 minutes late and then we had to wait while the guide got the tickets which took another 15 minutes After losing an hour he raced us through and we had very little time to actually enjoy the art. He was dressed very casually and did not have a way for us to easily follow him so the group lost each other often. I would recommend the tour operators stop making comments such as ‘women don’t listen’ when referencing Eve. It was misogynistic and I almost walked off. The tour does not include the basilica - he left at the entrance.

Waste of money, guide knew little or did not care to share!

Taking other tours this one was very poor. Our guide explained the obvious (you are in the basilica, well yes and? Tell me something I don’t know). Other guides have passion for what they do, are knowledgeable and will share their passion with you, give you the history, tips, show and speak to details. This was a complete waste of money. Paid €80 pp for skipping the line basically! Go somewhere else and do yourself a favor.

Disappointed/not worth it

The Vatican itself was an amazing experience. The tour, however, failed to meet our expectations. After waiting 40 minutes past our meeting time in the scorching heat, the tour company walked our small group to the entrance to the Vatican Museum where another group joined our tour (seemed like this was a ticket broker rather than an organized small group tour).The group tickets were not purchased in advance; we had to wait for the group tickets (and it didn’t appear as though we skipped any lines). The tour guide was very nice and professional, but longwinded and boring. It was very hard to follow what she was talking about and difficult to focus on what she was saying. An excessive amount of time was spent outside in the garden at the beginning of the tour, while the time in the museum was rushed. We didn’t have opportunities to stop and take pictures during the tour, as the tour guide didn’t stop at all and kept going even if people stopped to observe the exhibits. Sadly, we were underwhelmed by the tour and felt taken advantage of by the tour company. This tour was a waste of money for us - we were bored for most of the tour; we would have preferred a self-guided tour. We didn’t feel like we gained an adequate understanding or special knowledge of the Vatican Museum or Sistine Chapel with this tour. We would have preferred more time in the Sistine Chapel and less time outside in the garden looking at photos of what we would see inside the museum and Sistine Chapel. St. Peter’s Basilica is not included in this tour; we walked there on our own after the tour. It is definitely worth going and was the highlight of our excursion.

The Sistine Chapel was exquisite. Getting information about the Vatican Museum artists and time period was adequate for the duration of the tour. The company was very helpful in changing my time of entrance since we had a train to catch.

Great tour but not appropriate for elderly

This is a great tour, but the reason I only gave it 3 stars was the description of the tour should be more clear including the pace of walking involved, number of steps to climb, and distance to walk. We had elderly people in our tour and they were extremely challenged by this tour, as it was the most physically demanding of our 12 day travels. Would not recommend for anyone who cannot walk quickly for a sustained amount of time and for whom climbing several flights of steps is not easy.

Great experience

Our trip was changed from 10.30 to 8am, but this turned out to be a good thing due to massive crowds in the Vatican over Easter weekend. Ilaria (apologies if spelled incorrectly) was an exceptional guide. Her knowledge and understanding of the art was brilliant, and she was so enthusiastic and kept the group together despite the busy crowds. Absolutely stunning place and would recommend a guided tour to get the most out of it. Thank you!

Last Minute Cancellation

Unfortunately, this tour got cancelled the night before which was a huge bummer. They told us our English tour guide was ill. I think this company should have a back up plan for these emergencies. The guy that texted me was not able to offer me the same time (10:30) for the rest of the week. We were on a tight schedule and the few times and days offered did not work for us. To top it off, the person we were communicating with was not very flexible. Also- the website did not make it so you couldn’t rebook the tour for later in the week at the same time. So when I rescheduled it, I got a nasty text from the person in charge saying that “I already informed you that you cannot do a tour on Friday at 10:30.” Our original tour was scheduled for Tuesday at 10:30, so I’m not sure why Friday was still unavailable and yet viator let me book it… so in a panic, I had to find another company we could tour with it on such short notice. Anyway- long story short- SAVE YOUR MONEY AND GO ELSEWHERE!!!

Sistine Chapel the Highlight

Our tour guide, Roberta, was great. She is a small ball of huge energy. The Sistine Chapel is simply magnificent. We found the Vatican museum to be kind of average and a bit disorganized. Stuff kind of just stacked everywhere, not a lot of plaques describing the displays, and a ton of sculptures. We are used to the exit paths forcing you through the gift store, but we had to go through two cafeterias, outside, around, inside another building, then around and around - all just to get out. Not sure if that was due to covid. At the time we toured, we could not get to St. Peter's through the tour due to covid, having to go around to the other side of the Basilica to be able to go inside. You may want to ask about that before booking.

Speechless ...the history and beauty were beyond words. The guide was knowledgeable and answered questions. Having this guide describe the art was so helpful. She pointed out and explained the tapestries, maps and history of the statues. It was as if she was a historian.

Le guide ne nous a pas accompagné dans la basilique Saint Pierre c'est dommage il y avait encore de chose à voir, heureusement par hasard nous avons pu aller dans la crypte des Papes.

VIATOR revendeurs voleurs à éviter de toute urgence

Je devais effectuer la visite du Vatican le 1er jour de mon arrivée à Rome avec un guide Français malheureusement une grève des avions en Italie ne m'a pas permis de la faire, après avoir prévenu VIATOR de cet imprévu, ils ont d'une part refusé de décaler ma visite pour deux personnes d'une valeur de 110€ un autre jour alors qu'ils ont été prévenu dès le matin et d'autre part refusé un geste commercial. Mais ce n'est pas fini !!! je reprends la même visite pour mon dernier jour à Rome prévue à 14H30 et bien on m'appelle le matin, en me disant que ma visite est impossible à cette horaire, et qu'il faut que je vienne tout de suite. Je traverse Rome pour être là au plus vite et en arrivant au point de rendez-vous, on m'annonce que c'est une erreur qu'ils ont revendu trop de billets et qu'il n'y a plus de place. On me fait donc revenir à 14 H30 en me disant qu'il n'y a plus de guide français!!! j'ai donc bousillé ma dernière demi-journée payé 2 fois pour une visite finalement en Anglais. Bref, surtout ne passez pas par VIATOR qui sont des voleurs, menteurs et incompétents

La excelente guía. Maribel que hizo una visita inolvidable Nos detalló muy bien la vetada a la capilla sixtina. Lo inadecuado fue que el tour comenzó una hora después de lo programado.
